You really can't go wrong with the Giraffe. I've stayed there many times and it has always been clean and stylish, with exceptional service.

Check out the wine and cheese scene at 5 and the euro-continental breakfast.

A good rate is $299 if you can find that online.

Good places to eat include Grammercy Tavern on 20th and Broadway and Afro De Cuba.

I chose this hotel after exhaustive research on the internet. My boyfriend and I actually visited for Xmas 2003 and I felt bad about not leaving a review for this fantastic place. Neither of us had ever stayed in New York (I have always stayed with friends who have since left so I was quite nervous about choosing a hotel) and this was his first visit ever to the city. We absolutely loved The Giraffe. Our room was a deluxe double. Bed was large, marble bathroom spacious and stocked full of goodies (I'm very picky about my bathroooms). The room was very clean, in soothing shades of burgundy and greys. The location is amazing - we walked everywhere - and we really enjoyed wandering around Gramercy. BUT what we really loved, as others have pointed out, was the breakfast and evening drinks. The "continental" style breakfast was nothing like the paltry version you get in a lot of European hotels. This was full-on U.S.A. style with the best bagels!!! I have to confess, I put on a bit of weight in the 5 days we were there. Every night - hey, we were on holiday! - we enjoyed the nibbles and free wine/prosecco. Then, we set off again into the great city of New York. It was sooo hard to leave The Giraffe. We will always go back there whenever we find ourselves in our new favourite city. Do not hesitate to book a room here - you won't be disappointed.

p.s. and for those of you worried about noise, I slept very soundly every night - and I ALWAYS travel with earplugs. Our room was not facing Park Avenue however so if noise is a problem, I can definitely recommend booking one of these rooms.

We recently stayed here and really enjoyed it. Service was great...not snobby like you sometimes find. The cappucino machine was broken 2 times while we there but that's not a major deal. We loved the wine/cheese reception in the evenings. The breakfast was good but not outstanding. Still nice to have something in your stomachs before you begin your day. We had booked a double/double by mistake and they still gave us a king when we checked in without charging us extra. Would stay here again. Location not really that central. I would say the nearest subway was easily 6 blocks away so be prepared to use cabs a lot or walk. We had a great stay though in our favorite city in the US.

Had a recent stay in NYC and stayed in one of their upscale suites. The rooms were clean and the amenities nice. One of the elevators was not working during my stay, so it took forever to get up and down to the lobby. Also requested a bucket of ice which never arrived from room service. The continental breakfast w/ juices was quite enjoyable. Would recommend with some reservations.

I happened upon the Giraffe in 2001. Since then I (alone or with my wife) have stayed at this beautiful hotel about ten times. Unless omething beyond my control prevents me from taking a room at the Giraffe, this is my home in NYC. When you see the Giraffe I am confident that you will understand my loyalty. The common areas --
the lobby (that also serves as the breakfast room in the morning and the location for wine and cheese in the evening (with a piano player
as a bonus)) and the patio on the twelfth floor -- are lovely. The rooms and the suites have generous sizes and feel even larger due to the
ten foot ceilings. The staff is attentive and very helpful. Rose Revicki, the director of sales and marketing, especially stands out. My only quibble is very minor: perhaps the Giraffe, during its next "technology upgrade," will put in the rooms and the suites DVD players. The VCRs (and the "check out" library of tapes at the front desk) are fine but a bit dated. As you may surmise, when that is my only input for "suggestion
box," I rate this hotel at the head of the class.
