Overall we would stay again at Comfort Inn Centrall Park West Hotel. Below are some comments:

Location: UWS is the place to stay! You couldn't ask for more on the location of Comfort Inn Central Park West Hotel . You're just steps away from Central Park, delicious restaurants down the street, museums, and subway access is near by.

Room: It must have been the luck of the draw because our room and another couple that went with us (1007 & 807, both corner rooms) was spacious enough for 2. The bathrooms are quite small, but it was clean and updated. The AC was working great. Thank goodness! The bed was a queen sized and comfortable. Requested a refrigerator for the room and got one (spacious enough for drinks). The view out the windows wasn't much, just looking at a wall to other buildings (there was a little courtyard). We were there for a few hours to sleep so we didn't care.

Staff: We encountered friendly and helpful staff. The transaction at the front desk was smoothe. The countinental breakfast was nothing much at all (bagels, donuts, juices, fuits, cereal, and coffee), but enough to get you a little started for the day.

The good: decent location near Central Park and activities on the Upper West side. It was fun to be in a residential neighborhood within a couple blocks of several restaurants. The room wasn't huge, but spacious enough for two people. The air conditioner worked great which was the main draw during a week that hit the high 90s. The downside which has already been mentioned: the complimentary breakfast (yuck) and the staff. The staff, while friendly, was slightly inept. There was an issue with the bill which took two days and conversations with 4 members of the staff before it was finally straightened out. However, for the price and the location, I would be willing to overlook the downside and stay at this location again.

My mom and I stayed at this hotel only one night while we were in New York City in August 2005. We had seen in a couple reviews that the rooms were small, but that was an under exaggeration. We didn't even have room to put both of our suitcases on the floor. When we went to bed I had to put mine in front of the door in to our room just to be able to get to the bed! The hotel is clean and for New York is a good way to go if you're on a budget.
The staff was far from helpful. We left the address at home and had to try to call the hotel so we could try to tell our driver where to take us. They didn't even know their address! We had to call information to get it! Then that night we called to find out the nearest subway stop and the lady said take the C Train. And that was it. No mention of what street to get off the train at.
Amenities: Don't be fooled by "refrigerator" in the list of room amenities. The refrigerator is in the hallway and is shared by the floor. You can't even take food in to your room. In the morning you want to be sure to be the first one to breakfast. There are only 7-8 tables and they get full really fast and they will not let you take the food to your room.
The elevator is extremely slow (expected for an old hotel) but it is extremely slow too. The morning we checked out we had to wait nearly 20 minutes to get on the elevator due to it being full when it finally got to our floor and it took so long to go up and down the entire building.
Other than the size and the service it is a clean hotel in a great location. You're steps away from Central Park and a few more steps to a subway.

This little gem is in a great location, just a block away from the subway, great restaurants, and Central Park. We had a corner room on the 12th floor. It wasn't as small as some of the others have said but the bathroom was very tiny. Since you only stay in your hotel room in NYC to sleep and shower, I had 3 requirements: cleanliness, A/C, and hot water. This hotel met all 3 expectations. The complimentary continental breakfast wasn't too impressive, but it was free. Because it was so quiet, its price, and its great location, I would stay there again!

Three of us women arrived at the hotel very late from the airport and were told we did not have a reservation for 3, but for 2, and we would get 2 twin beds. So where does the 3rd person sleep? After going back and forth and tempers rising, they came up with a rollaway bed. The room was quite small and the addition of a rollaway bed further impeded movement in the room. The tiny bathroom has no a/c, it does have a window. The room carpeting is old and dingy and wrinkled in several spots. The wallpaper needs replacing. The hotel has the nerve to state somewhere online that it's been recently remodeled. Recently? More like in the 1980's! When we spoke to the manager on duty (Bernardo) the following morning about the lodging situation, he was nasty, rude and curt. We wanted a credit for at least one night's lodging due to the uncomfortable situation in which his incompetent staff placed us, he refused. Where did their satisfaction guaranteed policy go all of a sudden? The free breakfast was the worst we've ever had at any Comfort Inn, sparse, only one juice selection, the room was very dark, the fruits were gone by 9 a.m., the bananas which remained were all bruised and mushy. Then the icemaker broke and for at least 1.5 days we had no ice. I asked if they were going to bring in bags of ice and place them where guests could have access. Outside temps that week were in the high 80's to low 90's. Instead, they placed a very small refrigerator in our room (we did not ask for this) without ice cube trays. If my complaint was about the lack of ice, why no ice cube trays? That's the type of non-service one gets at this hotel. I could not get the wireless internet connection in the room to work properly so I never used it even though I should have due to my business. I have never encountered this problem at other NYC Comfort Inns. They will never see us again.
