“Pre-Christmas visit to the Big Apple.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2004

Found staff to be pleasant and helpful. Excellent location. Room spacious and very clean, but front facing rooms can be noisy. 24 hour coffee a great bonus! Would return to this hotel.

My husband and I decided to stay at the Hotel Metro during our recent December trip to NYC. We were more than happy with the hotel, and would highly recommend this hotel to others. In October we stated at a W hotel in NYC and preferred the Metro, which was also less expensive for a better room.

Check-in at the hotel was seamless, and though we booked online through the hotel's website there was no problem with our reservation. In fact, they even upgraded us for free to a better room, for no apparent reason. The room we ended up with was fabulous--huge (the size of my entire apartment), with a nice bathroom and plenty of closet space. For what we were paying we were very pleased. Everything was clean and spotless and the maid service was excellent.

We also liked the intimate feel of the Metro, over more impersonal hotels like the major chains.

We didn't have much interaction with the staff, though they did stow our luggage on the last day because we had a late flight and there was no problem with this. We enjoyed the free continental breakfast, and ate onc breakfast in the adjoining hotel restaurant, which was good and inexpensive, though the service was painfully slow.

The location was excellent too, and we thought we got a lot of bang for our buck staying there. While the elevators were tiny and infrequent, we had the same problem with the W.

Overall, we were extremely pleased with our Hotel Metro experience, and would recommend it above the W anytime (the only other NYC hotel we have experience with.) Staying there made our vacation hassle-free and extremely enjoyable.

Visited New York from 24th -29th November for Thanksgiving and found the hotel more than adequate for us. We were able to view the Macy parade from the bottom of the street. The hotel was central to most activities with most views near at hand. We used our feet and the subway as we had completed the bus tours on our previous visit. As our stay was longer we were able to take in a show. We found the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. One receptionist suggested Keens Steak House around the corner for a meal. This was very good. The room was adequate for midtown. Maid service was excellent. The complimentary breakfast was appreciated and all day tea and coffee likewise. We will definitely use the hotel again due to its site.It was only on arrival that we realised we had stayed in the Comfort Inn directly opposite on a previous visit.

On my first trip to NYC, 3 of us stayed at the Metro..we had a 2 bedroom suite, with a small kitchen area..it was great, clean, roomy and the staff was excellent...the location was centrally located. Bagels, rolls and coffee provided in the morning...would stay here again..

Just returned from a four day trip to NY staying at the METRO HOTEL on west 35th street. Opted for this hotel after reading reviews on this site and was not disappointed. A clean warm basic hotel; More than adequate as a base from which to explore NY. The staff on reception deserve special mention; They were very knowledgeable and couldn't do enough to help with suggestions about the best way to visit all the places of interest and could even supply tickets for most places...We bought our tickets for the Empire state building from them. The free morning breakfast of muffins, bagels and danish pastries and the 24hour free tea and coffee proved very useful as we dived back to the hotel to dump shopping before venturing out again. We had a great time and have no complaints either of the hotel or New York.It was all a wonderful experience but the highlight had to be ice-skating late on friday night at the Rockefeller centre. What an atmosphere!

Small, depressing rooms and an unhelpful staff (especially if you didn't book directly with the hotel). Made for a disappointing trip to NYC. Maybe some of the rooms are OK, but many (most?) are tiny and run down--see other reviews of the hotel. If you can stay anywhere else, don't take a chance on the Metro.

Just got back after a 4 night stay at the Metro, it was our first visit and we had a fantastic time. I had read mix reviews but was very pleasantly suprised with the hotel. We had a large twin room with all the amenities, the only down side was that there were not tea making facilities in the room you had to go down to the breakfast room where it was available day and night, we also had a noisy fridge in the room but we coped with this we did soo much walking that made us soo tired we did not hear it during the night!!

Great location and we managed to do everything that we wanted to during our stay. The staff we extremely helpful they booked our trips for us and gave us money off vouchers for Macy's which was very well received and used!. I will certainly return to New York and would stay back at the Metro.
