“Perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014

Stayed here for a week during the 'polar vortex' in January. First time in NY so no idea what to expect and where things were in comparison but it was the perfect location. 20 seconds to a tube line, nice view of the empire state building from the roof top, very close to Macy's and other high street shops.
Breakfast was adequate and what you'd expect from a city hotel, no cooked food but plenty of bread / bagels for toasting, yoghurts, fruit, stupidly large muffins, cereal, fruit juice and hot drinks. The place has a real 1940s vibe and the area breakfast is served in is nice with its posters of old movies.
The staff were so helpful and friendly too (as I've found throughout America). Only downside (and its really minor) were the towels in the bedrooms. They were rather scratchy and very small, oh and for me the pillows were massively thick. I did ask if they had any thinner ones and she just joked that perhaps I could try punching it a bit. Finally it was a bit noisy, I'm not sure if that was down to thin windows or if its always that noisy in all hotels in the middle of NY. Doesn't help that there is always some sort of horn or siren going off. Our room was facing the road so perhaps other rooms were quieter. If I ever go back I would definitely consider staying here again.

This hotel was all we could of wanted. The location on 35th street about 2 min walk from macys department store. 5 mins from empire state building. I would recommend visiting the empire state building at night as the views are stunning and it's only a short walk back to hotel.

The room itself, well the shower was the best shower I have ever been in!! The bedroom was very comfortable. I never expected much as it was only a bed base, the bed was comfortable. Television mounted on the wall and a coffee machine in the room.

Hotel Metro is on west 35th st in Midtown it is a perfect location for exploring New York. We landed at Newark NJ & within 2hrs we were at Penn Station (would have been quicker but for immigration)
The hotel is a 5min walk from the station & is really easy to find.
The Hotel itself is decorated in a 1930's style but has all the modern things you would want, wifi, good bathrooms, iron & ironing board, comfy bed.
The staff are very helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them, rooms are cleaned daily with towels & soaps, shower gels etc also changed. Board is bed & breakfast which is really good in NY as eating breakfast out would add considerably to your spending, breakfast was continental style but was not limited so you could fill up before starting your day. Coffee was available all day long & again you could have as much as you wanted.
On Tuesday evenings they have a wine & cheese tasting laid on for guests from 4-6pm which was terrific & a good way of meeting other guests in a relaxed atmosphere. We checked out on Friday at 10 am but didn't fly out until 21:00 the bell boy looked after our luggage for us until we left for the airport around 4pm giving us time to do some last minute shopping.
I would return to The hotel Metro any day it is so well located for Macey's, Times Square, Broadway & The Empire State building, a real quality hotel.

We have recently returned from a three night stay in the Hotel Metro prior to a Caribbean Cruise sailing out of CapeLiberty. After reading the reviews of this hotel, it sounded just the ticket. We found it just as reported. Rooms on the little small side but very clean and the king sized bed extremely comfortable. As said before, get up on the roof terrace for a fantastic view of the Empire State Building especially at night....Hotel is ideally situated in Midtown Manhattan for the Tourist Hotspots and I would certainlly recommend it to friends and family. My only complaint would be that stairs and landing carpets could do with renewing but our room was fine. And yes as said by other reviewers 'Dana' on the Reception desk is a little 'sullen' but hey you are not there to be 'best friends' with the hotel staff so go with the flow and you'll find most of the other staff seem extremely courteous and helpful. Enjoy NYC. We did, without any doubt, just get out there and keep going......(One tip - take earplugs in order to be able to sleep. NYC does not...)

Second visit to hotel, just as good as first visit.
Hotel is very central to Macy's,underground,Times Square,5th and 6th avenue.
There is 3great Chinese,Korean restaurants in same street as hotel, hotel grill also very good drinks more expensive than Irish bars next door.
Hotel has a cheese and wine on a Tuesday for guess not to be missed.
Hotel rooms very clean we were upgraded as it was our anniversary had a bottle of bubbly and chocolates in the room. Bath room has a great shower great toiletries replaced everyday with clean towels sheets changed everyday. Can't fault hotel in anyway.
All staff very helpful especially Mathew the door man.
Will definitely be returning next year

My husband and I spent three nights here on our honeymoon. Hotel Metro is in a brilliant location, the continental breakfast is good and the staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was quite small, but they'd made good use of the space. As we were on our honeymoon we received a bottle of bubbly on arrival which was a lovely touch! Bed was comfortable, but pillows were lumpy (like most hotel pillows!)

Stayed here in January 2014 and would highly recommend

The hotels is between 5th and 6th avenue in midtown and is a block away from the Empire state. So great location - Times Square, Rockerfeller, Grand Central Station, NY Public Library etc, are only a few blocks away. The nearest subway, at the end of the road, is Herald Square and that takes you directly to Chinatown/Little Italy. Four blocks away is Penn Station which is where the train from JFK goes (provided it is running, which it wasn't when we were on our way back to the airport grrr panic oh my god howarewemeanttogethome etc.)

The room was good - water and coke in your room on arrival, good fridge, massive telly, good aircon (very necessary as it was minus 16 outside). Great bathroom with super duper shower. Negative: got electric shocks everytime I touched anything, but that could be me and my magnetic personality. Yeah it's small but it's in the middle of Manhattan so that's a bit of a first world problem imo!

Breakfast is a selection of bagels and some other pastries, yoghurt and apple/orange juice and tea/coffee. Good way to start the day.

Free wi-fi, rooftop bar which would be nice if it weren't arctic temperatures outside. Hotel has a nice art-deco style.

Good Stuff Metro hotel, nice one.

Room Tip: We stayed at the front of the hotel and the bins come at 5am. Not sure if there is a quieter room...
