“excellentlly situated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2011

Stayed here for three nights with my husband. Ideally situated for most attractions, i.e within walking distance to shops, (Maceys is just round the corner), Times Square, Broadway, Grand Central. Need to take the Subway which is fairly easy to work out, to Staten Island, Be prepared for noise and heat there. The Hotel's restaurant served a lovely meal and is open quite late. There is a rooftop bar with a view of the Empire state building, Best time for this is at night. The only complaint we had was the continental breakfast included in the room price was a hit or a miss. The first morning we went down there was hardly anything left and it wasn't late. We went out for breakfast after that. Plenty of bars and eateries around the hotel. Though we kept coming back to an Irish pub just along the street The Playwrite they serve good food till the early hours the staff are very friendly.

3 friends and I stayed at the Metro during a trip to celebrate a 'big birthday'. We had told the hotel and were very pleased when the receptionist congratulated her on our arrival. They also had champagne waiting in the room as a further gesture. The location is perfect, a block from Macys, Empire State Bldg and short walk to Times Square. The rooms were fine, ours wasn't big but the bed was a queen and very, very comfortable. It had a decent bathroom, toiletries, big TV and a fridge which was very useful. The staff could not do enough for us, they were knowledgeable, helpful and always cheerful. We had breakfast included in our rate. This consisted of cereals, fruit, all kinds of breads/bagels/muffins - perfect to set you up for a hard day's sightseeing. Also tea and coffee was available 24/7, this we found especially useful. We did visit the rooftop bar a couple of times - very buzzy atmosphere and great views. The drinks aren't cheap but not really much more expensive than most bars and the first time we visited we didn't even buy a drink but staff were happy to let us sit there. We would definitely return and recommend it to others.

Room Tip: We were in 910 which is opposite a rather large building renovation. Some noise from this did start...

We stayed during a heatwave in October, and had five brilliant nights. Our room and bed were huge, Room 510, nice and clean. No view, but that was found on the rooftop bar. We only ordered from the bar once, as it was expensive, $20 for a beer and wine, but we took our complimentary coffee us there. There was a separate area for smokers, and they did not bother us.
I would not use the hotel shuttlebus service back to JFK. Cost was $25 each, (could have booked a taxi for same) and we made 4 hotel pick ups and 4 drop offs to different Terminals. Took nearly 2 hours. (same journey by cab, 45 mins). Unfortunately we were dropped at wrong Terminal and had to get the airtrain. It was a good job we had left plenty of time to check in.

We went to the rooftop bar as it was highly recommended. We couldn't have been more disappointed. The cocktails were poor and served in plastic beakers for $13..... and the bar itself is full of smokers ... very difficult to find somewhere to sit where you are not breathing in smoke.

It does have a great view of the empire state building, but that's about the best we can say about it.

There are significantly better places to go in NYC and the statement that this bar is 'where the celebrities go to be seen' is inaccurate at best... Don't waste your time....

While looking for a place to stay, I found it quite hard to find a hotel that can offer a suite for 3 people ( traveled with my partner and his mother) with the benefit of staying in separate bedrooms. Most of the other hotels offered sofa-beds in the sitting area or would charge prices that are sky-high.
Hotel Metro provided us with a 2- bedroom suite for a reasonable price. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was great. The rooms were spacious and had 2 fridges (but unfortunately they were empty: no mini-bar). We did not have any problems with the noise.

Unlike other hotels Hotel Metro did not charge extra for the breakfast. Unfortunately the choice of food was poor, offering mainly muffins and fruit(I personally prefer things like ham and cheese).
The view from our suite on the 10th floor was not great but guests can visit the bar that is located on the top floor. It offers great views of Empire State building.

Stayed here for 2 nights on way back from San Francisco. Agree with other travellers about the noise. Lorry outside on first night delivering building materials with cars sounding their horns. Air conditioning essential but very noisy, also the light/extractor in bathroom. Room smallest we had slept in for whole 3 weeks.Breakfast was with disposable cutlery and plates and was very basic. Not enough tables and chairs for number of guests.
Am not one to complain and have written several positive reviews but would not recommend this hotel.

Hi, Just returned from staying 3 nights here also. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, rooms small but thats all you need. There is 3 buildings currently having work done, one straight across from the front door, the other 100m yards to your right as you walk along to Macy's and the other in the street right behind. The work starts at 5.30 - 6.00am every morning, noneed for a wake up call or alarm clock!

Room Tip: I was on the eleventh floor and could here everything
