“Very good as usual”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

Every time i came to New York I stay in this hotel
I love the staff, the rooms and the location
the only problem can be at times the elevator that is very slow

I personally do not like the new name and would have prefer to stay as THE GERSHWIN

The team makes me feel welcome. I like that they allow computer and printer usage at the lobby which allows me to print some last minute things that I have forgotten. The room is a little small but that's the NY standard I guess. Overall I'm quite happy here.

Everything in this hotel is average or slightly below average. Isolated, dark and a bit dusty with tiny rooms and tinier elevators. 20 minutes walk from Broadway. The good thing is the price because in this matter, Manhattan hotels are way beyond crazy. So, it' your best secon or third choice!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the street and not the Avenue.

Less than $100 a night near the heart of Manhattan? Sign me up. The moment we stepped in, it smelled of fresh roses ... but we were in the dead of winter. Yes, it's cold outside but the rooms are nice and cozy. The elevators weren't as bad as the plethora of complaints. Chill out people. Also, they told me they are improving this with the renovations. The front desk was very approachable and accommodating. My mother said our stay here was the best sleep she's had in months. Thanks for making our stay pleasant and I hope to return in the near future! I highly recommend looking for good deals for this place.

(Side note: every taxi driver dropped us off on 7th ave) because the cross street is a one way. Meaning my mother and I had to walk up a couple of blocks in the cold. That was not fun.)

The Evelyn is ideally located, being right in the parts middle of NYC you want to visit. The hotel will be fab when the renovations are complete, but there are minor problems until then. The elevators are very slow, and there are noise problems caused by room doors slamming that make sleeping difficult, especially in the morning as people come and go. Aside from that, the Evelyn offers a very good value for money and we would definitely stay there again. There is a fabulous eatery 'around the corner' on Broadway called Sweet Greens (great for salads) and plenty of East Indian places on Lexington; we especially liked a Pakistani restaurant called Lahori Kebab which has fabulous food at great prices.

I was amazed at the quality of this hotel - incredible value for money and great sized rooms, all newly renovated with marble bathrooms and good showers. Really friendly staff who went out of their way to be helpful at all times - nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend.

For the price, I absolutely can't complain. The staff is friendly. As one reviewer said, the elevator--and, currently, there is only 1 for 13 floors, is incredibly slow. The hotel is in the process of renovations, which explains the very low price, The problem is that the updates are inconsistent: new beds, new room design, but broken torn blinds (true for two rooms--i've stayed here twice) and worn throw rugs. the biggest issue for me is how VERY dark the hotel is--depressing. The lighting is low and the walls everywhere are gray--gloomy.
