“Good location, friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

This hotel has small rooms, but who stays in them anyway! It is close to the Taproom, a great bar with lots of local brews on tap; close to a few great coffee places; a diner, Moonstruck, with awesome pancakes; and a great pizza joint, Mariella Pizza.

A very comfortable hotel with great large rooms and a great view! The supervisor Emilia was very helpful and the doorman Mohammed was great. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone, I had a great time and complain about anything.

The Marcel at Gramercy is a conveniently located small hotel on 24th Street near 3rd Avenue. It is a short walk to two subway stops and walking distance to many restaurants. The room was small (it's NYC, after all), but very clean and comfortable. Our only complaint was with the AC/Heat system which cycles on and off very noisily at night. The hotel provides ear plugs but they didn't work for me. There is virtually no noise between rooms. We never heard anyone in the hallway. A nice continental breakfast (not free) is served daily on the 10th floor where coffee and tea are available all day (free) and where computers and a printer are available for guests' use. Free wifi is available throughout the hotel. The personnel were exceptional friendly and helpful. I would happily stay here again and recommend it to friends.

The location is good for us. The room was clean and the service excellent. The beds were comfortable. The later check-out was helpful. Having the garage so close was a plus. Having the option for breakfast was good.

We stayed here as a last minute decision while in the city attending an event at Irving Plaza. The hotel was a bit difficult to find (in heavy snow at night) as it is not clearly marked with a big sign.
Neighborhood: -It is in a nice, safe neighborhood with plenty of places to eat. Great bagel place around the corner, got a bagel at 11:30 at night.
Check in/Lobby: The check in process was smooth. The lobby was nice with a fireplace to warm up by while waiting for our room.
Room: We took the elevator up to our room on the 4th floor which was right next to elevator. We walked into our room and within a step or 2, right into our bed. As previous reviewers have mentioned the rooms are very small. In looking at the fire diagram it was not even the smallest one. If we had large pieces of luggage I'm not quite sure where we would have put them. That being said, the room was small but we weren't spending much time in it. The one thing that was a bit puzzling (and my husband probably was not paying attention at check in) was that all the lights didn't work..until I noticed a little slot on the wall where you put your room key in. It powers some of the lights and the heat/ac as long as your room key (card) is in the slot. Very clever once you figure it out. The hotel saves in electricity and power isn't being wasted if no one is there. First time (and probably not the last) time I've seen that in a hotel. Bed was a bit uncomfortable and small, basically right up against the window. Heating was sufficient, some of the reviews complained but we really didn't have any problems with it. The view we had was of the parking garage across the street. The noise on the street didn't bother me, however in the morning there were people chatting at the elevator and with our room being so close I felt like I was part of the conversation. Iron was in room but my husband couldn't find it as first so he called the desk and they came to help. TV was flat screen.

Bathroom: Well appointed with decent body lotions, shampoo, soap, conditioner. Towels were good as well. Shower got hot, however was having problems with it draining. At first I thought the cleaning people left the drain closed so I pushed in opposite direction..after a minute it was making things worse. Very slow to drain (I didn't mention to management as we were only there one night and didn't think of it was we were leaving. Hair dryer was also on back of door in bag.

Overall I would stay again if I got a decent rate and I would probably request a room away from the elevator. The room we stayed in (which I believe was a standard room) are very small even by NYC standards but really how much room do you need? I found the hotel to be clean, nicely appointed in a nice neighborhood. We didn't have a car but if we did I believe you could park directly across the street in the garage.

Room Tip: Request away from elevator if light sleeper. NYC rooms tend to be quite a bit smaller compared to o...

A great property that is modern and clean. They really need to get a restaurant on board and fix the lack of hot water issue as upgrades to the experience, but I know they are willing to make this happen!
