“Good Hotel, excellent roof terrace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Nice room, reasonable size for New York and modern/neutral decor. Staff helpful, and in a good location, close to three subway lines, shops on 5th avenue, restaurants on 3rd Avenuw and Madison Square Park.

Mohammed (doorman) is very helpful

Room Tip: Room 802 with twin beds is light and bright with 2 windows. Quiet.

We celebrated my birthday with a weekend in the city.
Stayed at the Marcel. Great rooms. Colorful. Funky decorated. And very comfortable and clean.
The rooftop was a great place to relax with a coffee and snap some city views.
Did not expect much from a Manhattan hotel and was really surprised in a good way.
Convenient area with quick walk to Union Square. Great choice!

Room Tip: king sized bed should get you a great room

I stayed at the Marcel for almost 2 weeks in March and never wanted to leave! The staff was so accommadating, especially Jacquelin, Lindsay, & Mohammed... I can't wait to stay there again! They had the best recommendations when it came to restaurants & bars nearby or things to do in the city. My bed was so comfy though that it made it difficult for me to want to get out of the hotel room! Room Service was always very quick with whatever I asked for! The hotel was always extremely clean too. The Marcel at Gramercy is a 5 star hotel in my eyes and I will definitely be back & recommend it to others!

We stayed here for 2 nights over a weekend. The hotel is really nice, the room was beautiful and the terrace on the 10th floor is fantastic. Unfortunately it is let down by very loud street noise and very old noisy air conditioners. Double glazing on the windows and updating the air con would fix this, but I dont think we'll be staying there again until this happened.

My husband and I found this hotel on Jetsetter.com, and got a good deal. We travel to NY fairly frequently, and we are always on the look out for a new, cool hotel at a reasonable rate. The Marcel is in a great location in Gramercy Park - easy walking distance to bars, and good restaurants.

However, we were given an EXTREMELY small room - our check-in experience was positive -as the woman at the front desk was friendly and welcoming. She said we were given an "upgrade." When we got to our room, it had two double beds (instead of a king bed that we booked), and was so tiny, you could barely walk between the beds and the desk. (not quite sure how it was an upgrade exactly). The bathroom was teeny tiny as well, and you could barely sit on the toilet without your knees hitting the wall.

We returned from dinner around 11:00 p.m. and went to turn on the air because the room was so stuffy... but to no avail. We called the front desk, and a man was sent up to try and fix it, but after 10 minutes of working on it, it wasn't fixable. When we called the front desk to request a room change, we were told that there were no rooms available, so they sent up 2 fans which helped, but wasn't great as the noise was loud and sleeping condition wasn't ideal.

pluses: good linens, nice pillows, clean, good locale

negatives: room too small (even by NY standards) and a broken air conditioning unit

Probably won't stay here again

We stayed only for one night but anxious to go back. Immaculate and 10th floor lounge and roofdeck so unique for NYC.
Front desk staff friendly and efficient and great location for everything-
Excellent restaurants nearby
Only complaints were that air conditioning was very noisy and televison had issues.
Can't wait to go back!

I stayed at Hotel Marcel with my partner in March. It is one of the best hotels that I stayed in NYC. It has awesome location. There are great restaurants near by and shops. The staff is very friendly. Thanks to Nallini Sullivan for the great property and team. The hotel is decorated nice and clean. I would definitely stay there again.
