“A nice surpise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We needed to be close to the Animal Medical Center and they recommended their next door neighbor The Bentley Hotel. We were only there for 1 night but found the location (1st Ave & 62nd) a good spot on the East side, the rooms have been refreshed and are very clean with a trendy vibe. The staff was extremely helpful and they had a cool little Hotel Bar. I recommend this hotel for the price, the only fault I could find was street noise but that is to be expected in NYC.

Room Tip: Great views of the East river.

Very nice and helpful staff. Chairs in rooms are orange and ancient. Lamps are big and dim. Beds are comfortable. TV was fuzzy. Wifi cost about $13 for 24 hours. Wifi is free everywhere but expensive hotels. Why is that?

Staff- Very helpful and welcoming. No complaints

Room- Clean, comfortable, very close to the river

Location- 20 minute walk to central park. Close to subway stations. Cheap cab rides to anywhere in Manhattan. Felt very safe walking near the hotel.

All around great place to stay.

The folks at the front desk were friendly and helpful. I loved the room that overlooked not only the unique bridge, but also the water as well. I slept well in the king sized bed. The room was clean. The shower was unique, but it worked for me. I also liked the fact that it was in the heart of the city. It was a good experience.

Dear Walid T,

Thank you for the great feedback on Trip Advisor. I am thrilled you enjoyed your experience and the service of our team. First impressions are very important. Our Housekeeping staff works hard to provide a clean and comfortable environment for our guests. It is refreshing to hear recognition for their efforts. It is also great to see that our front desk team was able to find a spacious and comfortable room after your arrival. Thank you for staying with us and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Bentley Hotel.

Regards,

The Bentley is a BOUTIQUE hotel. If you keep that in mind, you won't be disappointed.

Do they do things the same as a chain? NO.
Do you get free wi-fi and free crappy coffee in your room? No.
Is the bathroom small (but manageable)? Yes.
Does it have a TV that works and enough outlets in the room? Yes!
Is it a Ritz Carlton? No -- but then again, it is not trying to be one, and it sure blows a Courtyard out of the water.

This is not a frequent flier/business person's cookie cutter hotel that looks the same in every city you go to for your work meetings. This is a hotel for someone who wants a cool room in a real neighborhood in NYC that does not hover over Times Square. But, it is a high rent district, so some things are not included in the room like they are in big box brands, and it is NY, so expect to pay more for EVERYTHING. This is no different than any other hotel in the city. Another reviewer complained that a large bottle of Fiji Water was $8. Everything is at your fingertips out the front door, so if you want the one on your nightstand, you're paying for the convenience.

By NY standards, the suites are HUGE. The bed is comfortable, the view is great, the water pressure in the shower is good.

(Hint: the water has to travel up X number of floors, so plan ahead ---turn it on, in TUB mode, about 5 minutes before you want to get in and let it run~~ then when it's hot, flip on the shower. Had I just gotten in immediately and tried to bathe, I would have thought there was no hot water. Plus, opening the spigot all the way to "9 oclock" was actually too far, "Hot" was at about 11 oclock on the handle. Once I figured out the secret, I had a nice hot shower. I read one reviewer's comment that the pipes made an awful noise. Once the hot water was running and I could play with the handle, I got that noise to stop. It's an older office building that was converted into a hotel so from a plumbing standpoint, it makes sense that it might take a while for the hot water to get up that far. I only bring this up because some people walk into a hotel and then rip it apart if it wasn't just built yesterday and has some quirks). I tilted the shower head down a little bit and took a perfectly normal shower without flooding the bathroom (also as another reviewer mentioned. Not quite sure what they were doing in there!!)

The hotel is located near TONS of good restaurants including a great diner, so I don't understand why it's a big deal that the hotel's breakfast isn't good. This is NY! Go out and explore! If you're really a creature of habit, there's a SBux less than a block away, and the Food Emporium under the bridge has an ILLY coffee bar (a block and a half). I had Tapas, Sushi and Thai food and walked past Italian, Deli and barbeque without even breaking a sweat (and it was 90 degrees outside).

The bed is comfy, the A/C worked, the door locked, nice robes in the closet, housekeeping came when I called, the front desk was friendly, the place was spotless. Truly, what else do you need?

Tip: There's a brand new bidding (name-your-price) site just for boutique hotels that they're listed with~~you can use it if you're coming in on short notice (less than a month away) and score a pretty good savings.

Room Tip: Stay higher up to cut down on the street noise, and use the free earplugs they leave you in the bath...
