“My home away from home...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2010

I love this hotel. I've stayed at On The Ave almost every trip I have made to New York since 2001, and have nothing but raves for its staff, decor, and rooms. The modern-but-not-stark look and boutique-but-not-snobby attitude of OTA make it a hotel I truly miss when I leave.

About the only negatives I can offer are the lack of a pool and the fact that the views toward Central Park are now obstructed by a new building on 77th and Amsterdam...but hey, what are ya gonna do? It's Manhattan.

I also highly recommend four spots for food nearby. Breakast/lunch/brunch: Sarabeth's on Amsterdam (lemon and ricotta pancakes...say no more). Lunch/dinner: Shake Shack on Columbus (truly amazing burgers). Dinner: The Fatty Crab on Broadway (sort of like an Asian tapas thing). Dinner: Isabella's on Columbus (affordable and delicious...with a Dark Chocolate Bag dessert that comes complete with steak knife).

“2nd Time even better!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2010

The first time we stayed we were obviously happy enough to book there again, the room was quite roomy, nicely decorated and comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly. The 2nd time, they upgraded us to a penthouse suite at no extra charge!! 15th floor. Small balcony. Small living area. Beautiful marble bathroom - separate sink outside, lots of mirrors, roomy. Large bedroom with king bed and big flatscreen tv. Again, staff was very friendly and helpful. Location is good - in between 2 major streets. Very very impressed!

“Great Hotel Great Guest services Chyrystal and Angie Carbel are Great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2010

I am in New York on business. I had to see the guys on Wall Street!

I was recommended the hotel by a good friend. so I left another midtown hotel to

try out On The Avenue... When I checked in my room was not prepaid only held.

My assistant already had messed up my flight. So when the hotel was not billed

properly...I was not pleased. I live in Vegas and London so I experience a lot of travel.

I need things to be right so I can work. Many days I work from my hotel room. We can

lose millions if we miss one phone call or miss one important message. Therefore

attention to detail is very important. Chrystal in guest services tried to correct the

problem. She was very nice and professional. I asked for the manager...Angie Carbral

stepped in...She got on the case. She called my office She called my client's office. She

was very patient. it took several hours to solve but solve it they did. Crystal and Angie

teamed up and solved the billing problem. I must manage and track expenses.

by 9:00 pm five hours after I checked in these two On The Avenue employees had

corrected the situation. It is this type of attention to detail that is a credit to their company.

A hotel never wants a customer's first experience to be a wrong billing situation. I

certainly have a choice of hotels...therefore the hotel staff that goes the extra mile...

is where I stay and to whom I give my business.

Great job and congrat's go to Angie and Chrystal. On the Avenue New York is lucky to

have them.

All the best!

Adrian Taylor

“Great stay at On the Ave”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2010

We stayed at On the Ave for four nights from 08 Oct to 12 Oct 2010. We took three rooms in all, two being panoramic deluxe rooms and one a twin bedded room. Myself and my partner stayed in one of the panoramic deluxe rooms on the fourteenth floor with a channelled view towards the Hudson River.

I generally never book a standard room at any hotel as I always worry about the lowest price rooms. By booking a panoramic deluxe room I had hoped for a larger room but as the room had a small terrace and was reasonably well equipped we were quite happy. The rooms do not have safes which I missed and meant we had to carry our valuables everywhere with us. Our carpeting was also dirty and / or stained, but these were the only two criticisms we had. Generally the staff were really friendly and helpful and we loved our stay.

It was quite clear that the management cared for their guests and I thank them for making our stay so comfortable. I had read previous reviews about slow lifts but we were on holiday so we didn't really find the lifts a big problem. If I was rushing to a meeting then maybe I would have stressed a bit as the doors do take time to open and close.

The location is great and there are plenty of place to eat in the area.

We will be back, thanks again On the Ave - you are doing a great job.

“Home Away From Home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2010

I had to spend two weeks in NYC in September and previously, in the summer, I was there three weeks (Also at ON THE AVE HOTEL). The staff was so nice and helpful that when I came back to the hotel in the evenings it felt like I was coming home to a condominium or rental of my own.

My only disappointment was not being able to watch movies, though the TVs were beautiful, large, flat screens. I think I could have asked for a DVD player.

There used to be a restaurant attached to the hotel and I hope another real good one opens soon. There are plenty of great places to eat in the area and for breakfast one can go to the Manhattan Diner across the street.

New York is expensive in general, but I believe the hotel rates are competitive.

If you go, enjoy!!!
