“Tiny room, but clean and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

NYLO is located in a residential Manhattan neighborhood convenient to mass transportation. The room was clean and comfortable, but tiny. It was not much larger than the double bed in the room. It was fine for a short stay, but would have gotten claustrophobic for more than a couple of days.

The Nylo hotel was a very trendy, very clean boutique hotel on the upper west side. The staff was friendly and helpful when we needed it. The downside is that the rooms are super super small. They are so small that they feel tight when you're in them. I can only speak for the room we were in, perhaps there were bigger but I think there was also a smaller room and I can't even imagine that that's possible. We stayed in a deluxe double . The room is extremely narrow so that there is only a small space between the bed and the wall to walk through. There is one chair and a little wooden bench where one could sit to put on their shoes. But in order to watch television you must sit on the bed. Even the one chair is kind of close to watch comfortably. The bathroom was a pretty good size considering how small the room was and it was ok. One good thing about the room was that the floors are wood which is much cleaner than carpet. But the rug by the door was kind of dirty and you must step on it to get to the bathroom. There is no free internet in the room which to me, is crazy. You can get free internet in the lobby which is very nice and quite a happening place. I would stay there again but only because my daughter is on the upper west side and we wanted to be close to her. Also, someone in a previous review mentioned the construction going on outside the hotel. If you don't want to be up early, don't stay at the Nylo. The jackhammer starts promptly at 7 am and doesn't stop for a minute . Overall clean and friendly but more downside than up and for the price of a New York hotel you expect just a little more.

A nice hotel in a great location...convenient to the subway, shopping, and restaurants....LOVED the bar. Place was very quiet. Room as extremely small. The one thing I noted is that the lighting in both the lobby, restaurant, bathrooms, and guest rooms is extremely poor. Everything was dim and dark.

Location is central but not obvious, authentic and not mainstream touristy. The style is typical but not stereotypically newyorkish, contemporary and vaguely fashionable: industrial finishing and vintage, bourgeois furniture for reception/lobby/bar area, metropolitan greys, bricks-print wallpaper and (unlikely) Scandinavian-Ikea style fittings with SOFT beds in the rooms. Cleanliness is adequate. The heating/AC is the noisiest I've ever experienced. Now on to the human factor.
The reception staff proved to be all in all efficient, although empathy, communication skills an smiles are all deficitary, with only a couple of exceptions. As guests, we felt we had arisen some interest only at the moment of our departure, when questions about our arrangements for transfer to the airport were repeatedly asked. The so-called concierge service, which is provided by an external supplier, is straightforwardly shameful: imprepared, non-professional, indifferent young men and women sitting behind a desk from 9 am to some time in the afternoon just in order to sell theater tickets, airport transfers and the alike. Absolutely incapable to assist visitors in any other sense, their knowledge of Manhattan is ridiculous and so is their helpfulness. A real sore spot for this hotel. Finally, the bar staff: located at the center of the entrance hall, this is in fact the power-house that provides life and ambience to the place, thanks mainly to Charles, a bartender who honors the best tradition and even a bit of the legend of his job.

This hotel is very convenient to go anywhere in the city since the subway is very close. You can walk to the Lincoln Center as long as the weather is good. I had stayed there when it was The Ave and generally the biggest change is that now it has an industrial look and other features that can attract a younger clientele. The rooms and bathrooms are very comfortable and the staff is excellent. The only issue was the noise from the next room that came through the shared door. I do not know if this is new or if it was like this before. I had not seen this before when it was The AVE. I had seen it in other hotels but not the noise.

Room Tip: Rooms that do not share doors with any other room. If it was not for this issue the sound proofing...

I had a room on the 15th floor with a balcony. The room was on the small side, but the balcony was great--even piled with snow!! Overall a very quiet hotel. The service we received was great. I loved this hotel when it was OnTheAve, but now that they've added a bar downstairs, and Serfina next door, it's truly wonderful (although still no room service!).

Room Tip: High floors are better. Ours faced 77th street, which makes a high floor key, but we still faced the...
