“NOT BAD, BUT....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

You will find 2 major problems when and if you are a guest at the Nylo. First, windows are not sound proof, so the room is never peaceful. Men working during the day and all sorts of trucks(garbage mainly) during the night. My room faced the 77th street, maybe other rooms are better.
Second you may have to encounter a manager called NORMAN CHUNG,one of the rudest and histerical manager in New York, even if you consider cheaper hotels. You see, The Nylo has no security police, none really, They will not ask for your name or passport when you register ,except of the person responsible for the reservation, Very seldom a doorman will check your entrance and never when you use the lift. BuT dare you to forget your room key: heavens and earth won't save you to be scolded and abused by mr Chang. "I don't care if you are 80 and tired. You don't exist at this hotel!!!". Of course I don't exist: they refused to register my name when we checked in!Go somewhere else. There are hundreds of hotels similar to this one. You do not need to jeopardize your stay being a guest at the Nylo(.77th st and Broadwy)

Room Tip: maybe facing Broadway.

I booked this hotel with my fiance as we were going to New York to get married. We were looking for a good value hotel, well-located, that would feel different and a bit special. It was definitely good value and well located (the subway is one block away and you are three blocks from Central Park and the Natural History Museum). However, it didn't feel very boutiquey or special. The service was effective but nothing memorable. The breakfast in the on-site restaurant is fine, but given the price I think it would be better to go to one of the nearby diners for a better value for money (and more authentic) experience. We also had a problem when we asked the hotel to arrange a car to the airport - the hotel quoted one price, but the driver told us another. It transpired that cars booked by concierge are cheaper than those booked by the doormen - so make sure you arrange with the former and make it clear when the doormen call that you want the lower price. Luckily we speak Spanish so could mollify the cab driver and come to an arrangement.
Fortunately, our family paid for us to have a room upgrade to a suite with great reviews and more space, but the decor of the rooms is nothing special and I would think that the 'standard' rooms are probably quite small. All in all a good experience but this felt more of an executive hotel than a boutique, special experience.

We've stayed at NYLO (formerly) On the Avenue once a year for about 8 years and never been disappointed. We prefer to stay in this less touristy area. There are many restaurants and shops within walking distance. The subway is one block away. The staff at NYLO is consistently friendly, helpful, and immediately welcoming. We've never had a huge room but they have always been adequate with plenty of storage space and great bathrooms. The new mattresses are impressive and much needed after a long day of walking in the city. We had an issue during this visit with a middle of the night noise disturbance from an adjoining room. I casually mentioned it upon checking out and ended up speaking to the manager. My inconvenience was a serious concern and taken care of to my satisfaction. We will continue to stay at NYLO. It is a good value for the location.

Room Tip: Not sure what to recommend since the fire department is across the street. Also, construction noise...

I visit New York frequently and stayed again at NYLO. As a repeat customer, they upgraded my room and it was just beautiful. The mattress is really comfortable and the lighting in the room is great. It's even better than On the Ave. (the predecessor hotel) used to be and I think represents a good value. Because the room wasn't available for 15 minutes, they offered me a free glass of wine at the bar while I waited. The reception area and all of the bell boys are always friendly and helpful. The service remains top-notch. I was offered a free breakfast at Serafina but didn't have an opportunity to use it.

Always enjoyed staying at On The Avenue, and even happier with NYLO this weekend. Perfect location on Broadway near Beacon Theatre and easy access to subways on 72nd or 79th streets. All of the staff from the doormen, bar tenders, concierge, front desk and housekeeping were very professional, friendly and helpful, which created a warm ambiance among all of the guests we met during our stay. Looking forward to staying at NYLO again for two more weekends in January!

The decoration, style and staff very nice. But DO NOT STAY there just for the noise...... awful, awful, awful. It is a old hotel and the ventilation has not been changed, so you hear it all the time in and out during the winter. At 4:00 am in the morning there was this garbage truck that was there for 45 min...so noisy just in front of our room - honestly. At the begining we had a very thiny connecting room where we were able to hear EVERYTHING from our neighbors (were able to follow their conversation and were hearing them put their glasses on the table). Definitely not worth $300 per night....We were changed room, but very noisy again. Will never go back again and do not recommend !!!

The hotel aesthetic is a bit convoluted - Scandanavian sparseness in the rooms meets Steampunk chic but the King room was spacious with plenty of closet space and a large tiled shower. Comfortable tufted sofas in the lounge/bar at the street level reception with a big screen so we could watch the Thanksgiving football games as our Thanksgiving day wound down. Friendly, helpful staff. Overall a great experience.

The Beacon theatre is a couple of blocks away and worth a trip even if you aren't seeing a show. Beautiful renovation of gem. Central Park is a short walk as is the Museum of Natural History. 10 min walk to Columbus circle shopping center.
