I booked this hotel with my fiance as we were going to New York to get married. We were looking for a good value hotel, well-located, that would feel different and a bit special. It was definitely good value and well located (the subway is one block away and you are three blocks from Central Park and the Natural History Museum). However, it didn't feel very boutiquey or special. The service was effective but nothing memorable. The breakfast in the on-site restaurant is fine, but given the price I think it would be better to go to one of the nearby diners for a better value for money (and more authentic) experience. We also had a problem when we asked the hotel to arrange a car to the airport - the hotel quoted one price, but the driver told us another. It transpired that cars booked by concierge are cheaper than those booked by the doormen - so make sure you arrange with the former and make it clear when the doormen call that you want the lower price. Luckily we speak Spanish so could mollify the cab driver and come to an arrangement.
Fortunately, our family paid for us to have a room upgrade to a suite with great reviews and more space, but the decor of the rooms is nothing special and I would think that the 'standard' rooms are probably quite small. All in all a good experience but this felt more of an executive hotel than a boutique, special experience.
