“Postage stamp room, but nice service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

The bed really is about all there is in the room. The front desk, bar, and bell staff, though, are wonderful, and the hotel has a funky vibe that some might find endearing. Personally, I'd prefer a Queen's size bed and a little more space than this California king. But I guess it's all in what you're doing in the room. And then again, why shouldn't New York rooms be small. Manhattan's geography hems it in much more than Paris, London, or Rome.

Room Tip: I'd ask for a higher floor. Lower ones seem to look out on the apartment blocks beside.

Nice new style hotel. Good welcome. Friendly staff. Thanks roberto the bar man! Restaurant attached was good. Rooms were modern and quiet. Ideal location for Central Park and other famous NYC attraction. Would stay again.

When we visit NYC, we usually stay on the upper west side. We have stayed at the Lucerne nearby in the past and thought we would give NYLO a shot. We were overall pleased with our visit. The pros are the location as others have discussed, as well as the service, friendliness and overall quality. We had two rooms on different floors to accommodate the whole family. When we made the reservation, they said we would get rooms on the same floor, but that didn't happen when we checked in, although they tried very hard. Hotel was very full. Our floor had a better maid service than the other room; extra towels, fixed a phone and light problem, gave extra Keurig coffee, etc. Very friendly person who cleaned and made sure our room was in top shape. Unfortunately, the room on the 12th floor wasn't taken care of quite so well and didn't get the same level of service. As others have suggested, elevators were slow and one was out for a couple of days which was a major hassle. We finally found the stairs to go between the two rooms. They have a nice car service we used to get to airport when we checked out and it was quite reasonable. The bartender mentioned by others was fantastic and service orientated. Ok, so here is our somewhat major complaint; they allow smoking on the 16th floor outdoor terrace used by all guests. Whoa! When most of the US is going smoke free, to allow smokers to monopolize the outdoor terrace is a big buzz kill for us. One day a person was smoking a cigar up there and we had to leave. This is a major issue and would preclude us from returning. In summary, the pros are the service, friendliness, bar, location, overall room, and free wifi (yay!), while the negatives are inconsistent maid service, slow elevators and major issue is smoking allowed on terrace. One other somewhat major issue; the reservations are all outsourced off site so when you call to book, etc you talk to someone not at the location and not knowing what is really going on at the hotel; hence the issue with us not getting two rooms on same floor as promised. We would like to return, but will have to evaluate their smoking policy before we book again.

Nylo is in a great NY neighborhood - lots to do, Central Park and Riverside Park both close by. Rooms are small but comfortable and quiet. Staff is friendly. Check in/out efficient. Lobby and hallways are subdued and hallways wind all over the place but all of that is part of the charm.

The NYLO was recommended to me by a friend as she knew I liked more boutique type hotels where I would feel comfortable and relaxed whilst travelling alone, though it will also be a great place to stay with my husband next time! I needed to stay in a location near to my daughter's college and this hotel could not have been more perfect in that respect. The NYLO ticked all the boxes for me: the LOCATION was perfect with a subway stop 2 minutes away, some great restaurants , Central Park 5 minutes walk away, the Natural History Museum also 5 minutes away and my daughter's college a direct 10 minute ride from the hotel. The ROOM I stayed in was a good size with literally THE most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The BAR/LOUNGE AREA was relaxed with a hip, fun atmosphere so it was a great place for my friends to meet me after work. The staff were all fabulous and went out of their way to help with any questions I had, always with a friendly, courteous attitude. I'm already looking forward to my next stay there!

Great location in the Upper West Side. Easy access to Lincoln Center, Central Park and the Upper East Side. Connected to a so so Italian and a Chinese fusion restaurants. We stayed in a room with a king. Comfortable bed! Decent bathroom. My only complaints: only chair is the one at desk, no armchair. Also they tend to clean the rooms fairly late (like at 3p) but can get a drink downstairs and rest after morning and early afternoon activities. They give Columbia University discounts.

NYLO is really a nice hotel in NYC. Close to Central Park, close to two metro lines and a quiet place where the staff makes everything possible to make you feel at home. The quality of the beds is extraordinary and it is so good after a day in NYC to relax in a very comfortable bed ! And it is nice to be welcomed with a glass of Champagne at the end of the day...

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back of the hotel. You will be sure to have a quiet night...
