My first time staying at this hotel as I usually stay closer to Times Sq. Very easy to get to and in one of nicest neighborhoods you will find in NY.
The hotel staff was excellent and welcoming from the moment I checked in until Joana processed my check out the next day. She was excellent and really seemed to really enjoy her job. I would definitely stay again as the pace was not as hectic as Times sq and everyone on staff went out of their way to see if they could be of assistance. A nice level of service. Rooms were clean and the bathroom simple. Not a bad place at all

My Daughter and her family are staying at the NYLO and checking in on her Birthday. I called the Hotel to arrange a credit at one of their restaurants for a Birthday dinner and they were beyond accommodating! They were extremely courteous and attentive in making sure upon their arrival they would be greeted with a Happy Birthday and Dinner following a coast to coast flight. I am certain their stay at the NYLO will be a great experience for them. The staff at the NYLO are outstanding! They can be certain they will be my first choice for accommodations when I am in New York.

I was in the city for a celebration with friends and wanted to be 'in the neighborhood' so the location was perfect. The staff made my stay feel like I really was part of the neighborhood! Check-in can be so telling, I amazed how often it takes 20 minutes of keyboard punching to check in with a reservation you made months before and the staff won't even look at you until they are finished.... NYLO was exceptional in making every interaction with staff personal, genuine and just plain nice. Charming doormen, a very accommodating and entertaining bartender (so nice to have 'locals' bar in a hotel!) and exceptional front desk staff made my stay feel more like 'living in the city' than staying in a hotel. The proximity of Morningside, Riverside and Central Parks made a huge difference as well. I used the fitness center once but was thrilled to have perfect weather for 4 days so my workouts were in the sunshine... couldn't really ask for more! The grocery options, By The Way Bakery (with Stumptown Coffee!!!) and access to the subway make NYLO/NYC a perfect way to work, rest and play in the city!
I'll be back!

Great location, lively, inviting public spaces. Unfortunately, both rooms I occupied in my 4 day stay were very disappointing. Rooms were tiny, dark and overpriced. Good: Bed were good. Floors were nice. Shower decent. Bad: Tiny bathrooms, Drains plugged, Air Conditioning very loud, Closets inadequate, can't unpack. No service elevators. Housekeeping fills the dark hallways

I checked in today for a three day work trip, and am already disappointed. On the positive side, the location is great and. I arrived early and they had a room for me. On the negative: I went to take a bath tonight and there is no plug for the tub. I've now waited over a half an hour for the plug I was promised, and it still has not been sent to my room. Also, NO ROOM SERVICE despite there being two restaurants in the hotel. This is an inconvenience in the morning before meetings and I didn't see this anywhere in their material. Finally, the plastic cups in the bathroom, curtains that don't come all the way down to the sill (so light comes in during the morning) and other details just scream CHEAP. And all that despite a room for a pretty penny. Good enough, but overall disappointed.

Top floor room, large, own balcony, light, well designed, comfortable bed, good bathroom. What more could you want? Well a fridge would be good. Apparently there might be one on request. For a 6 night stay it should be automatic. The coffee maker is good but why must every paper cup be wrapped in plastic?
But, great location, a short walk to metro and central park. Good cocktail bar and italian restaurant. Great Asian restaurant also attached.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for the balcony rooms, it's well worth it.

In its previous incarnation as On the Ave, I had stayed at this hotel three or four times on business and personal visits to NYC. The hotel has new management and a new name, and has been redesigned, sadly for the worse.

The GOOD: great Upper west side location, the bar downstairs is kind of hip, nice 16th floor public balcony with nice outdoor furniture and a view.

The BAD: overall, the hotel was redone very cheaply. The furnishings in the room as of lower quality that On the Ave. The main issue however is that the hotel seems to be suffering from a lack of management oversight in the cleanliness of the rooms and the operations of the facilities. Details:

The management does not seem to take a very active role in overseeing that the hotel rooms are being properly cleaned. I don't believe our room was swept a single time during our visit, or the equipment being provided to the cleaning staff is not satisfactory.

When we arrived, we noticed that the floor appeared not to have been swept. We chocked it up to a mistake. However, through the three nights we spent, it became apparent that the rooms are not being cleaned well at all. The glass door between the bathroom and bedroom was splattered with all manner of liquids. The shelves in the bathroom too looked as if they had not been wiped down. And outside the rooms, the hallway looked too as if it was not being properly vacuumed.

In addition to the issued of cleanliness, we decided one evening to stay in with a bottle of wine. I requested two wine glasses and a wine key from the front desk, and very courteously was told that they would be right up. They arrived, however the glasses were plastic goblets. Not ideal for wine drinking, especially when they too were splattered with something (dirty) and had an odd odor. I went downstairs to the bar to ask for some real glasses and was rudely told that there weren't any. The bartender walked away quickly. I remained and asked again, and he explained this time that he was literally out of glasses, they were all out. The bar was busy, perhaps 20 people in the bar and lounge area, but how can a bar have less than 20 wine glasses? He offered to bring the manager, and I said thank you. I waited 5 more minutes, and finally another staff member asked if I needed help. I explained the situation and it was apparent that the bartender had never contacted the manager. He did so this time and the manager came from behind and restated the situation to me, ran quickly to the Serafinas, but said they were too busy, and offered to have them brought up as soon as two glasses could be cleaned. I could see those two glasses sitting dirty in the bar area and though it odd that the glasses could not be cleaned right away. I agreed however.

The glasses NEVER arrived.
