“Loved it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

My husband and I stayed here over New Years and had a great time. The location is unbeatable, one block from the subway and surrounded by great reasonably priced restaurants. It was nice to be slightly away from the noise and chaos of downtown, but also easily accessible by the close subway. The room was large with large bathroom. Coffee in the room. Front desk very helpful and friendly. Walking distance to central park and a mile from the Met. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: King room is large

My husband and I stayed here while celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. It was wonderful! The service was friendly and attentive, the hotel is charming with an Old World, European feel. The location is fabulous; you're away from the loud, bustling crowds of mid-town and Times Square. We walked around Central Park (just 2 blocks away), and even in the middle of January, it was beautiful and enjoyable. Our room was on the 12th floor, which I had requested. It was the perfect size for 2 people, tastefully decorated with warm colors and an opulent feel. I think it was the cleanest hotel room I have ever stayed in. We did not want to leave! We loved it!

Room Tip: We used Booking.com and got and incredible price.

The Lucerne was one of 4 Hotels we stayed at as part of a 2 week visit to NYC and it was definitely the smallest room, you could say, very cosy. The lobby was very nice, as was all decorated for Christmas and the doormen/bellboys were very friendly. At one point, the vending machines didn't have the drink my sister wanted so the bellboy ran across the road to the shop to get her one, very nice gesture. We were situated on the 4th floor and had a decent view out onto Amsterdam Avenue. The room was very clean and well decorated but beware of the toilet flush, very loud and shocking haha. The location wasn't as great as the others we'd stayed in purely because it was so far north. We had to get the Metro just to get to Mid-town although we did walk once, it wasn't comfortably near-by. But the area was very nice.

Room Tip: Ask for East-facing rooms for Amsterdam Avenue views. Ask for the opposite if you don't like noi...

First off, let me say that I would stay at this hotel again. The location is great--on the UWS near fine restaurants and the #1 train to whisk you up or downtown. The service is ok if a bit impersonal and their connection to the Nice Matin restaurant next door gives you a great breakfast, reasonably priced with a 15% discount. The elevators are small but you get used to it quickly.

The problem I have is that the hotel cannot decide whether it is a "boutique" hotel or an old style classic hotel. Not quite cool enough to be the former and not quite grand enough to be the latter. So it is a bit confused and it would be good if they would decide on a direction and stick with it.

The room are boring but functional. No trendy soaps/shampoo here. But I have to say the bed was great, we slept well, had a good breakfast and went on our way.

Not memorable, perhaps, but not too shabby.

Although this hotel is Uptown from Manhattan, it was so easy to get Downtown on the Subway. The Subway felt so safe and it is truly just around the corner from the hotel and so cheap! My room on the 5th floor was great- large and very comfortable and the bathroom was well appointed. The ONLY downside was that I could hear the people in the room next door for a couple of the nights but I think they were exceptionably loud people anyway!! The concierge service was spot on- very helpful finding local shoe stores!! I was welcomed by all staff each time I came "home" after a busy day. The Nice Matin restaurant was my breakfast choice each day. There a plenty of dining choices for dinner in the area and as a lone diner, I felt comfortable. A bonus for me was that there was a Dry Cleaner and Launderer next door to the hotel and was a fraction of the cost of the hotel service. So in summary, a great hotel away from the mayhem of busy pre-Christmas New York.

Room Tip: I was happy with my room not facing the street. But I did have a view of apartment roofs so it was n...

We stayed at. The Lucerne for 3 nights over New Years Eve. The hotel is well located, staff helpful. We found our room a bit cramped, especially the bathroom, barely enough room to get inside and close the bathroom. door. The restaurant Nice Matin very good, and served good coffee cappacinno which being Aussies we had missed

Room Tip: We had a standard room and found it small, consider getting a larger room

Situated on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this hotel offers a great base for walking to Lincoln Center, several museums, shopping and restaurants. We were delighted with our room at the end of a hallway facing the back of the building, but when our card key did not work we soon discovered that that room was already occupied, so we were switched to another room located near the elevator and the housekeeping supply closet - it sort of felt like punishment for their mistake (shouldn't they have offered us an upgrade?) The room was small but clean but the bathroom was really small - two people could not fit in there at the same time. The walls were paper thin and we could hear every word spoken by our neighbors - it felt as though they were in the same room with us. After a full day of walking I tried to lie down for a quick nap, but the housekeeping staff yelled from one end of the hall to the other throughout the afternoon. So much for a rest. The desk staff and doormen were pleasant but not overly friendly. All-in-all, for the price there must be better hotels in the area.

Room Tip: If you must stay here ask for a room facing away from busy Amsterdam on one of the upper floors and...
