“great location.. dependable service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2012

This was a fabulous find and we will return. Great location, good sized rooms, polite staff..I lived in NYC for 40 years and hope that I have another 30 to return to the Lucerne. Thanks so much.

“Nicely restored building now a comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2012

This reportedly converted college dormitory located on the upper west side between Broadway & Amsterdam has a nice home-like atmosphere. Great neighborhood stores and restaurants & not far to the subway. The rooms are very clean. We stayed in a King Suite which has 2 (for New York) generous size rooms, a microwave and a refrigerator. We have stayed in the regular queen & king rooms on other trips & they are decent size. The NIce-Matin restaurant is right downstairs and they give you a 15% discount for breakfast...but be sure to sue it during specified hours, before brunch begins. They have a small gym for workouts & massage. The only slight drawback is the in room heater-fan that can be drying, but most of the time (in winter) the room stayed warm without it running. Watch for special on the website like 2nd night half price.

Room Tip: Go for a special rate on the suites.

“Cool classic hotel in Upper West Side”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2012

The hotel is very comfortable and clean with well proportioned rooms.

It is fantastically located in the Upper West Side in a more residential area, with varied and sparky restaurants, bars and shops. It is really handy for most locations too. We strolled across Central Park to the Metropolitan Museum and also to the Lincoln Centre, home of teh Metropolitan Opera.

But the icing on teh cake is the restaurant next door, Nice Matin, where you can have breakfast at a discount. But it also serves meals throughout the day in a relaxed bistro style. The cherry on the icing on the cake is the wine list - heavily French with lots of really fine wines (even soem from JFK's former wine cellar!).

We will almost certainly stay at the Lucerne the next time we go to New York.

“Cozy neighborhood, great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2012

New York's Upper West Side is a great neighborhood where people actually live. Yet, the Lucerne is close to the usual tourist spots: Broadway theaters, Lincoln Center, Central Park, museums, restaurants--all within walking or easy subway or bus transportation. The staff is friendly and courteous, the rooms are immaculate, so what more can anyone want? It's not the most luxurious hotel, but it's a great value for a splendid experience.

Room Tip: Inner rooms are quiet, but the windows are interior--the view is only of other windows.

“Great hotel in a terrific neighborhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2012

On our last trip to Lucerne was in July 2011. Hotter than you know what outside but the aircondition worked beautifully. I love the UWS and hate to be hanging out in touristy areas of anywhere. The restaurant in the hotel is lovely and next door is a great fluff and fold service. Extremely convenient to subway which is one block over on Broadway. Can get anywhere quickly. My 10 year old son and I made a point of walking by the animal clinic down the block to see the kittens in the window. We still talk about the little black and white kitty who was there all week and finally got adopted on the last day. Like I said, a real neighborhood experience.
