Was looking forward to eating here as I had read so many positive reviews and was very disappointed by the service, food and price. The ambience was nice however it did not feel Middle Eastern or Turkish. It had an eclectic feel with a mix of antique like decor with typical cafe style chairs, kinda flimsy. The waiter was not friendly or informative, while I observed another waiter who was quite welcoming as well as informative with his customers. Our waiter pointed to a small paper displayed on the table and said those are the specials. After perusing the menu I was disappointed to see that the menu while having a Turkish influence was not true Turkish cuisine but a mix of other cuisines, such as American and Mexican which do not neccesarily complement one another.
Okay, setting this aside the food was okay but the same plate would cost $7 in a Turkish/Middle Eastern Restaurant in Paterson or Clifton, NJ. In reality they would never serve such ridiculously small servings. I had lamb kebab, it was cut up in pieces that looked as if they were intended for a small child, and then they were served on a skewer. How they got these tiny pieces of meat on the skewer is incredible, it must of been quite time consuming. I was given three Turkish tortillas?! and a very small amount of onion salad with tzatziki, all this (note the sarcasm) for an amazing $22. My boyfriend had chicken kebab which was one skewer with three pieces of rectangular shaped chicken, served with a small amount of shepherd salad and french Fries?! This was $20. Other tables received some Turkish pita bread with dipping oil prior to their meal, we received just two small pieces of pita right before our meal was brought out, as if the waiter had forgotten and quickly tried to cover it up.
When the check came we stated that we were disppointed, when I mentioned the bread and oil his response was we didn't ask for it!!! He than pushed for us to speak to the manager which we chose not to as we had already decided not to come back. I definately felt that my meal was all about paying the rent for this SOHO restaurant and less about providing a cultural meal with an eclectic twist. We actually had to go somewhere else to eat an hour later!!!
