Not a cheap hotel but worth the price for comfort, ambiance & location. Good restaurants nearby, easy public transportation and wAlking distance of the Met, Guggenheim, Neue Gallery and Cooper Hewitt.

We needed a hotel near to Mt Sinai Hospital and remembered that the Hotel Wales was close. We are so glad we chose to stay there! Our suite was an ideal offered not only a great, clean, comfortable room but a sitting area when we were not at the hospital visiting. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. Sarabeths Restaurant in the hotel is a NYC gem for breakfast and brunch. We will come back again when in NYC for pleasure.

The Hotel Wales is an amazing destination. When you walk in, the front desk is welcoming and nice. We had taken a red-eye flight and we arrived at 4:00 in the morning, so our room wasn't ready until check in around 3:00. They held our bags. We went to explore the city. Also on their second floor, they have a complementary coffee and tea lounge available. The restaurant next door is what the hotel uses for room service. It is called Sarabeth's and it is excellent. We had a great second experience here and we are excited to come back!

Hotel Wales is a quaint no frills hotel in a historic building with elevator in the Carnegie Hill neighborhood of the Upper East side, one block off of Central Park and easy walk to subway. It is clean and reasonably priced and the staff are friendly and efficient. We have stayed here several times while visiting relatives who live in the area. There are a variety of rooms including small suites. Our room was quite small and tight with a queen bed, desk and a view of an exterior wall but we had booked a special rate and were willing to sacrifice space and view for price since we weren't going to spend much time in our room. The hotel has a small exercise room with 3 varied machines which we found useful. Complimentary coffee is available in their hospitality room and there is a business center with computers. Cafes and restaurants are next door.

We moved to Upstate NY after many years living in NYC. The Wales has become our home away from home when we visit the City. We stay there on average once a month. The rooms are comfortable, we love the neighborhood with it's terrific little restaurants, and it's a terrific value.

Room Tip: Spring for a suite.

Located close to Central Park and #6 up/downtown subway, this small convenient historic hotel could be considered for a NYC stay. But be careful about room choice as you may be disappointed. Our room has a desirable street view but some look out into a wall, reminiscent of Budget Paris accommodations. If your budget allows, get a corner suite looking out onto Madison Ave. Forget the gym...walk the streets instead. Staff is ok, Cindy at the front desk is a gem. Pros: Good restaurants close...Paris Bistro, Paola's, Juliano's espresso bar; comfortable beds, 24 hour coffee/tea, room service. Cons: Rooms can be dated with no view, noisy window air conditioner. We would stay here again though!

Hello MonsieurChef,

Thank you for your review of the Hotel Wales. I am thrilled that you enjoyed the neighborhood. Our staff, and especially Cindy, are thrilled that you enjoyed the level of service received. I always like to recommend that our guests stay in one of our many suites as they offer views facing Madison Avenue and are much larger in space.

We look forward to the possibility of serving you again.

Sincerely,

Nestor Teran

We stayed here in December 2014. Two adults and a three year old. The hotel is in a nice neighborhood with very good proximity to a subway station and Central Park. There is a lot of high end shopping within walking distance. Our room (a mini-suite on the fifth floor) was a nice size for a NYC hotel. It included a sitting area with a pull out couch.
My only beef is the noise. The room is heated by two loud radiators that hiss and knock all night long. Also, this hotel does not have "city windows" so the road noise is bad. My husband and I joked that it sounded like they were racing dump trucks up and down Madison Avenue all night. It made it difficult to sleep (even with a white noise app on my phone). As a result, I would not recommend the Hotel Wales nor would I stay here again.
