I'm addressing this review to the kind of traveler who's reached a certain point in his/her life, a point where he/she can afford the finer things, but is reluctant to spend for them, simply because of the sacrifices it took to reach such a point. Please -- if you don't go first class, just know your heirs will -- and in most cases, if your children were raised with good values, they will be happy that you've chosen to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
For little more than, say, round-trip tickets for two on Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class, well, you could spend a week at Trump International. If, like my husband and me, a trip across the Atlantic seems daunting physically, then you can make no better choice than this fine hotel. You will be treated with unfailing kindness, you will be surrounded by quiet, understated luxury (quite unlike what you may imagine it to be, if you're judging by photos of Donald Trump's own apartment at another location), and you will be made to feel safe and well cared for.
We stayed 6 nights, and very soon very tiny details became apparent, like the fact that housekeeping staff took note of what beverages we liked to consume using the supplied Keurig, and made sure those were abundantly supplied. We'd asked that the mini-bar be removed, since we wanted to use the refrigerator for things we'd buy at the nearby Whole Foods. It was immediately taken care of. Everything in the hotel is of the finest quality, without the tinsel-and-glitter which shouts "look at me" -- it's simply there, and it's just right.
The entire feel of the property is that of a European-style boutique hotel. The lobby is very small, and that is a very good thing, our opinion -- the staff quickly knows who you are, that you belong, and we certainly appreciated that eyes were on who entered and left, and that our comfort and welfare seemed of utmost importance to the staff.
The concierge staff is justifiably famous for their ability to get that elusive reservation. We dealt with Carlos Friere, who took amazing care of us, arranging a fabulous 3-hour tour of the Manhattan we thought we knew very well. Our guide, Michael, was a wealth of obscure information, and the three hours flew -- even long-time visitors to this great city will be enchanted as we were.
In closing, you know who you are, if I've described you in my first paragraph. Please do this for yourself. There are good choices which cost less, there are good choices which cost more, but all things considered, location among them, Trump International is the place you deserve, and I know you will be happy with this choice.
Room Tip: It's on Central Park -- it would be a shame not to enjoy that amazing view!
