“Great Nostalgia thru-out, room and service ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

The hotel thru-out is very impressive with a huge lobby and some very nice restaurants/bars, but left unimpressed with the overall service and room. Check-in took abnormally long, with gentleman continually have to leave desk to check with manager to unblock a room? When asked, "isn't there already a room?", oh yes sir. While there was about 10 bellman, many standing around waiting for the other to due something. The room was on Park Ave side and very noisy, felt like sleeping in a parking lot. The ceiling in bathroom, a softcloth drop ceiling, making one wonder what mold merks above it.

I stayed here four times in my life, and I always feel like a princess. My mum uses hotel points for this-- we could never actually afford it otherwise. Once, they bumped us up to an executive suite for free for a week, and they treated us like royalty. The rooms are elegant and beautiful and old fashioned, and the food is amazing. Afternoon tea is wonderful, and the room service, though pricey, is incredible. They will make anything you want. Anything. I asked for broccoli with cheese late one night and I was expecting just that-- but it was an actual sauce, so tasty, and not even on the menu. The concierge is helpful with booking Broadway plays, although I lived in New York for years and prefer getting deals on plays. If you want good seats the night of the show, though, and are prepared to pay, the concierge at this hotel will have them for you without question. If you can afford this place, I highly recommend it. I've never had a more enjoyable hotel experience in my life!

Room Tip: Try to get them to upgrade you for free if you're a Hilton Honors member. If they can, they will...

I stayed at the Waldorf=Astoria for one night on business. I was really looking forward to my stay, and have to say I was a bit disappointed. The hotel itself is full of history, icons and the lobby and public spaces are beautiful.

The room was disappointing. It was average in size for NYC, but the finishes were old and worn down. The tub had a slow drain and there was obvious damage on the bottom of the tub. Paint on the ceiling of the bathroom was flaking and outlets and switches were old and ragged. The room was very clean, just in need of a face lift.

Beds were comfortable. Room service was great. Staff was friendly.

Would I stay there again? Probably not. For the high price tag, you can find more modern hotels with better accommodations.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view if you can!

I have stayed, on different occasions, at the different best hotels in New York. I had never stayed, however, at the Waldorf Astoria. We went just after the hurricane Sandy hit NY.
As we all know, this is a hotel built quite some years ago, but it has been kept up and looks perfect. The service was impeccable, and staff very attentive. Our room was very nice and comfortable.
A mal-functioning heating was immediately replaced by an electric heater. And because of the "hardship" they gave me a hundred bucks on checking out. Now, that is caring for your customer!
The Waldorf Astoria has always some kind of promotion or another, so even though the list prices or name would scare some people away, look it up!

The rooms are larger then a regular room in NYC. The hotel is beautiful though because of its age the plumbing isn't the best but acceptable considering its been around for awhile... The lobby is impressive and the size is amazing in NYC. Nice wide hallways & overall a nice hotel w/a beautiful spa.

We have just returned from a fabulous 4 night stay at the Waldorf,We booked Capricorn limousine service through the hotel web site for transfers to and from the hotel to JFK,communication via emails with Elliott was first class always quick to respond once emails were sent.,excellent pick ups on both occasions and exceptional meet and greet and drivers.
We arrived at this iconic hotel first impressions on entering the lobby area do not disappoint, on check in are room was not quite ready so we decided to start are sightseeing early we were informed we would receive a text in half an hour once the room was ready which we promptly did,we had booked a luxury double/ double room as there were 3 of us and on returning to the hotel we had been given a complementary upgrade to a one bedroom suite room 10A which was a nice surprise.
The suite was huge and nicely furnished yes there are one or to knocks on furniture but thats from people who do not respect other peoples property,if you want to step back in time and like art deco then this is the place for you.
All staff members we came into contact with were all very curteous and friendly, would we return the answer is yes thankyou for making are stay in New York a memorable one.
