“great midtown location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2011

Terrific hotel close to everything: theaters, grand central station & connecting trains, MOMA. Room was spacious with large couch, fireplace & huge sunken tub. Friendly, efficient staff. Attractive lobby with lots of seating areas so you never feel overwhelmed by lots of people. Would definitely stay there again.

Still hip after all these years, the Royalton is cool and nevertheless very welcoming. Sharp decor, beautiful people, surprisingly good service. The rooms are nice; well designed and comfortable. Its all a bit dark, so if you are fighting jetlag, you may never get out of bed. Location is perfect. The bar and restaurant are both very nice.

Room Tip: prefer the back; more quiet

We stayed in the Royalton at the tail end of October for five nights and could not have asked for more. It is in a fabulous location; close to Times Square, loads of great delicatessens and subway stations. Our every needs were met by the staff and although some have complained on here about the dark, atmosphere, I actually think it works.

It's a really classy place and makes visitors feel like they're indulging in a bit of luxury. Our bedroom was gorgeous and was cleaned every day without fail. The bed was massive and the shower absolutely amazing. We had a little trouble with the internet access on the complimentary iPad but I'm sure if we had needed it enough the staff would have helped us use it. Instead we just logged onto the free WiFi using our mobile phones, which was great in itself. We also made use of the hotel's gym, which was well put together and had a nice atmosphere.

I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a central hotel that isn't too pricey, offers wonderful service and has plenty of amenities. We'll definitely choose it again when in New York.

Although it is somewhat easy to pass up, this was a very good hotel. The staff bumped us to a King Suite. The room was controlled by an iPad which was a fun touch. The room was spacious, but the bathroom was the hilight. The bathtub was nearly six feet in diameter and the shower head was gigantic. The bar area was also nice and our server was very friendly. The staff even customized a letter for one of our party who was celebrating a birthday-a nice touch. The one complaint I would have would be the size of the elevators. They were extremely small. Other than that, this was a very fun hotel.

Me and my husband have just came back from NY, where we stayed at the Royalton Hotel. It was a very pleasant experience. The hotel seems brand new, with stylish decoration and young, nice and helpful staff. There is a bar at the reception that gets full every night, with young and interesting people. The room is small, but cozy. Our bathroom had a wonderful tub and was really big if compared to other hotels. Location is precious, since it stays at 2 blocks from Times Square and, by the other side, from Grand Central Station. I would definetely stay there again!

When my husband read some of the "poor" reviews on trip advisor after I had booked the Royalton he was very anxious about our stay........................ he absolutley fell in love with The Roaylton. We loved the dark and sexy lobby to the hotel, great atmosphere with a lovely glass enclosed fire which is perfect now the weather is turning more wintery.
Reception staff were great, very helpful, we loved our room which was a superior queen room with shower (no bath) but the shower was really powerful and we both loved it. We had a desk area with ipad which you can use free of charge (even internet access) although we had a few technical problems with sending emails which didnt get resolved but this didnt spoil our holiday. Also the bed was soooo comfortable and the sheets and duvet of a very high standard and we slept extremely well,. We were on floor 11 and didnt hear any noise from the bar downstairs. We didnt have a great view but that wasnt a problem for us.
We loved the "buzz" in the bar area in the week night evenings even though finding a seat was difficult we loved sitting at the bar and the bar staff are super efficient and very friendly.
ok, the drinks are expensive but this is New York City for goodness sake and a hotel so its to be expected.
The concierge called "Cole" was very helpful to us and booked us tables for meals when we asked him to and gave us advise when required. The porters who stand outside are dressed casually and not uniformed like many of the big name hotels but they are extremely efficient and always on hand to help you get a cab or get your luggage.
All in all a fantastic 8 night stay in New York helped by choosing the Royalton which was fabulous. We thoroughly recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in mid town Manahattan.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Royalton for 2 nights in mid-October. This was my first trip to NYC. While the entrance is quite understated, it's not difficult to find if you simply use a little common sense and look up at the name and address. We stayed in a "standard room". The room was a perfect size for the two of us and had a little desk area and sofa. It was rather roomy and had a great closet and large bathroom, so I'm not really sure what other people have been complaining about size wise saying the rooms are small. The “rain forest” style shower is BEYOND AWESOME!!! Great water pressure!!! The room was decorated with nice clean lines and soft muted colors - very serene - and came with a Bose iPod Sound System, iPad & Large HD TV. BTW every room comes with an iPad to use during your stay. We didn’t find the hotel dark as other reviewers noted... it's just the decor of this hotel and YES you can see and YES there is more than enough light in the rooms. The location is perfect - right off 5th Ave and just blocks from Times Square and Broadway, which made it very quick and easy to get to the subway. All the staff we encountered were extremely pleasant, happy and fulfilled any of our requests quickly and efficiently. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Mid-town area.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Morgans commissioned Roman Williams, to re-create Royalton's legendary lobby. The design - simultaneously sophisticated and complex - juxtaposes an icy cast-glass vestibule and brass furnishings with soft suede upholstery, thick leather walls and hide-covered chairs to create a dark, sexy and luxurious space. Design and architectural details include a mammoth floor-to-ceiling hand forged cast-bronze fireplace, a twenty-foot screen that was once part of the facade of a building in France and hand-upholstered leather walls. ... more   less
