We stayed at The Helmsley for 4 nights in April 2005. The hotel check in staff were very efficient and polite- we were in our room within 2 minutes of walking through the door!!. The room was clean and a good size for 3 people. The towels were indeed fluffy !!! Tiny complaint was the rattling pipes although also very funny - however if you turn the tap on fast no noise just splashes !! We were on the 7th floor and despite some reviews we heard no noise from the restaurant downstairs or from the traffic on 42nd street.

The hotel is in an excellent location really close to the subway and Times Square etc. The deli next door was excellent value for money and the staff were very friendly.

Upon check out we left our bags with the bell hop who was only too happy to help and when we returned to collect the luggage, it was brought to us speedily and cheerfully.

We would definately use this hotel again, and if you are looking for good value, clean accomodation, and great location this is the place to stay.

Stayed here for a week, great location.

There is a chinese woman who works behind the reception who is as miserable as sin, she is very rude but that never fazed me a bit.

The rooms are VERY tired, if fact they are upgrading rooms at the moment, I should know because for 5 days we heard work being carried out directly above us on the 33rd floor.

We complained to management and were told it was a leek, some leek, we took a look and the whole floor is being refurbed.

I complained in writing to the manager and we were given a comp breakfast and they reduced our bill for one night!!, after all their lying that was the best they could do.

Watch the bar prices, they are steep, and watch the concierge, they are like hawks, I had to speak to one of them after he was rude to my wife, she got in to a taxi and didnt tip him enough so he slammed the door and nearly caught her foot.

Use it if you have to or you can get a good deal but otherwise make sure you get a new room

Arrived at the Hotel and the staff was very courteous and helpful. Had a corner room that was spacious and quiet. Room was very clean. Decor could use an update. Located very close to Grand Central Station so riding the subway was a breeze. If not interested in riding the subway than you will have quite a walk to most attractions. Overall a above average Hotel.

My wife and I have just returned from a week in the Helmsley Hotel in New York. We had a great time in the city and our experiences at the Helmsley contributed in no small way to our enjoyment of the Big Apple.

The Hotel is centrally situated and is very close to Grand Central ; this was of special advantage to us as it is pretty easy to get to Grand Central from anywhere in the city.

The staff in the Helmsley were helpful and courteous at all times ;when the elevators developed a problem on a busy Sunday morning, the staff facilitated guests through the use of the service lift, for instance. We were particularly impressed with the concierge service.

We stayed in a Deluxe King bedroom and we both agree that the ambience of the room was excellent( We were at the top of the Hotel on floor 41 so traffic noises were within reason). If you haven't been in a big bed before, then this is the place to go! Room was cleaned every day,we got plenty of big and small towels and the New York Times arrived at our door every morning. The TV set was of high quality but we didn't get much time to sit and watch. The radio was good ( FM seems to focus on music and AM on talk shows in NY )

One problem we had with the room was the lighting. It was difficult to read ; the table lamps proved good lighting for getting about generally but were not conducive to reading. It was difficult to read in bed....it is unfortunate that lights aren't provided over the bed to allow guests to read in comfort while resting in bed.

We didn't take breakfast in the Hotel and we only had late night drinks on one occasion; the drinks were very expensive but the bar is very attractive. Although we didn't do it ,we were surprised to notice that guests are allowed to take food to their rooms.....for instance,I met a guest in the lift with a large pizza !! Coffee....very nice coffee..... was available in the foyer free of charge in the morning ; we are not sure if this is common practice in New York but it was a plus for us in this hotel.

This hotel is a little expensive but ,on balance, it is worth it. We would stay here again .It is clean, has courteous staff and the bedrooms are attractive. We can certainly recommend it and give it an above average rating.

My fiance and I would recommend this hotel to everyone!

The location is superb!! You walk outside the hotel, turn left, walk 500 yards and you are standing next to the Chrysler building! Walk a bit further and you are outside Grand Central Station. Your 10 minutes away from the Library (seen in the The Day After Tomorrow film), 10 minute walk to Empire State Building and 15 minute walk to Central Park and Broadway.

The hotel is clean and fresh, beds and rooms cleaned everyday. We stayed for four great nights and came back engaged. We can't wait to go back and definitely stay at the Helmsley!!!

Book your trip now!! ;)
