“What a relief!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011 via mobile

After suffering through many nights at trendy Manhattan hotels, I came across this little gem and couldn't be happier! The street is quite but within a block of Union Square and all that action..plus several great little bars and eateries within eyesight. The hotel is quaint, yet elegant. The hotel staff friendly and helpful but not chatty or intrusive. It's a very intimate experience being a guest here..much like a B&B, but better.

I would recommend the Inn at Irving Place to any travelers jaded by over hyped hipster joints or large commercial hotels.

This hotel was lovely, everyone who worked there was helpful and pleasant. The decor was interesting very victorian, the room was very pretty, however the bed was as hard as a rock. The sheets were nice however. You are on a quiet street, without all the normal insainty of most NYC hotels. I liked it alot. I don't think I would stay there again cause of the uncomfortable bed. But, they did a lovely job.

If you visted NY and enjoyed the Frick museum but wonered what it would have really been like then you need to stay here. This unsigned little paradise is truly a find for those that don't want fight the chi chi crowd. Each of the 12 rooms has genuine turn of the century (19th) furniture beautiful bedlinen and ouses charm. The afternoon tea at 6 courses is to die for and the breakfast is as wonderful. The Angst is do you want others to know about it or keep it as your own little secret? Truth is if you like this sort of truly genuine place where you are a name and not a number then we should all be allowed to enjoy and maybe we will see you next time as we will be back again!

If you love intimate, warm, delightful, quirky, deliciously comfortable and being in the middle of everything that is wonderful about NY look no further. If you are looking for elevators, business centers, spas, gyms, concierge desk and everything branded this hotel is not for you. But the flip side is a handful of rooms, Frette linen, breakfast (included) in the famous Lady Mendel Tearoom, free wifi, warm and wonderful staff, a hop to Union Sq and a skip to everywhere else you will love The Inn.

This is a lovely hotel, reminiscent of a (very nice) English B&B. Fantastic furniture and decorations, really lovely attentive staff and wonderful breakfast. The hotel was always full of people enjoying the tea rooms, holding small private parties or just enjoying the atmosphere. The only draw back was the noise due to the private parties, but this was not excessive. Would be a very romantic spot for a get-away.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2010

Small "charming" hotel, nice location in NYC, many nearby restaturants, bars and friendly staff. Had a junior suite for 3 nights at $650/night. Rooms furnished with antiques - but the sofa and 2 chairs in a nice sized parlor were in such bad condition that you would not want to sit on any of them. Bathroom was not very clean and had a toilet that would run unless you spent 5 minutes playing with the flush handle, maintenance panels left open to service space, dirt on edges of everything.
On 1st night, AC was out, room was 90 degrees while outside was 50. Street side room, with windows open for any kind of cooler air, street noise was very loud and almost continuous all night. Much of the noise was form a building under construction across street, worked on until midnightnight, then trucks started delivering materials to the job site and to restock the bars and resataurants in the neighborhood. The net was no sleep.
On the 2nd night the AC was fixed, but now it was Friday and with the windows closed the street noise was a bit worse than the 1st night- bar patrons, then delivery trucks. Woke to jackhammers on the corner.
The 3rd and last night was the worst, club across the street opened and closed late. Music was so loud it actually shook the bed.

Booked 5 weeks in advance, asked for a quiet room. I have had much better stays in a Red Roof Inn next to a highway.

A very unique hotel experience, almost like staying at home in a big city.
Rooms are large, loved the locale.
Was skeptical after reading some of the negative reviews, but I'd stay there
again in a heartbeat.
