“A bit frayed but still gorgious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

It is probably about timer for a renovation to this fine old hotel but in truth you couldn't ask for a better view without paying 2 to 3 times what it cost us to stay there. The room was nicely appointed and the bed the most comfortable I have slept on in any hotel. The staff were all friendly and accommodating.

They also catered our wedding reception in their Park Room and it was of the highest quality.

Room Tip: The higher up the better the view. This was from the 38th floor.

Absolutely wonderful, breathtaking view over Central Park. Great service and perfect location. Only the breakfast was a bit disapointing, just for people on a High Carb diet, even if breakfastroom was gorgeus. Gym also fine for people with imagination. Great beds!

It was nice being so close to Central Park. We had a nice big bed. No bed bugs. When we checked in, the bellhop practically ripped our small roller suitcases from our hands, which I felt was unnecessary. Bathroom floor was dirty and fixtures were worn. They furniture was dated, and outlets were inconveniently located for charging devices. Be careful not to bump or look in the direction of the minibar because the sensors will automatically charge your room.

Lovely hotel: old charm, yet bright and clean.
The staff are attentive, professional and made our experience great.
Concierge service was excellent.
Does it need updating? Just the bathroom and air conditioner.
Leave the bright and airy charm the same, please.
Would definitely return.

Room Tip: Loved the Central Park view room. Definitely worth the higher cost.

Got decent price for two stay over holiday weekend. Very welcoming staff; not at all stuck-up. lovely old-fahioned hotel room, but not tattered like some NYC "Grand Dame" hotels.Very quiet. Great views. Will come back if get good price again.Didnt try the fitness room.

Room Tip: I was high up on 25th floor; very quiet

We got a room at 10th floor, but were able to change to one at 44th floor with city view for extra 50 $/night including free wifi. All though we did not have a park view, the view was amazing.
Do not put your own beverages in the minibar - you will be charged for removed items! The hotel is pricy, but excellent located. We had nice and cheap breakfast at the nearby Green Café.
The room had two king size beds, and was big enough for us (two adults, two teenage girls). The bathroom had a bathtub and a shower, with complimentaries. The room was cleaned dayly.
The hotell staff was professional and helpful.

Room Tip: Higher than 30th floor to experience the view!

Spent an overnight as an anniversary weekend at The Helmsley Park Lane. We requested a park view and did they deliver! We were on the 19th floor and the view was spectacular from when we checked in, through the night and to watch the sunrise! It is an older hotel but the room was very spacious and clean. Even though we were close to the elevator it was very quiet. The bathroom was very clean and had a rain shower head. The bed was very comfortable and the robes were a very nice touch. It was great to relax in them after being out in the hot sun all day. When I mentioned we were coming in for our anniversary the hotel gave us continental breakfast for 2! We arrived in the morning and they gladly kept our bags till we returned in the afternoon when our room was ready and then held them on Sunday so we could do more sightseeing till it was time for us It has the charm of a bygone era. I understand they are renovating the rooms but the hallways were nicely done. Can't beat the location.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for the park view. On the 19th floor we could see length of the park but were also l...
