“Nice Property and Great Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

First time staying here since now part of Marriott brand. Was actually cheaper this week than a Courtyard around the corner and such a better experience. Lots of charm in this older property but nicely renovated so no amenities are missing. Very nice fitness center with more room and equipment than what I typically see.
Room was smallish but larger than your avg NYC room. Beautifully decorated with a good size bathroom. Small maintenance problem with shower temp was fixed first night while I was at dinner. Water pressure was fantastic - even on the 10th floor.
What impressed me overall was the service I encountered from everyone. Doormen, front desk staff, maintenance guy, housekeeping, bar and restaurant were all friendly, polite and professional.

Room Tip: High floor but be aware that elevators are pretty small and a little slow. Not really any views from...

Green Features: Hotel did not advertise green practices and changed towels even though I hung them on the rack.

I stay at the Algonquin quite frequently and enjoy the hotel and the staff is lovely! But word to wise, room 205 has the most annoying buzzing that goes off every 45 seconds that has kept me awake for 3 nights in a row.

Room Tip: see above - don't stay in room 205

We feel sleeping in the historic era. The room is beautiful. Our room is small with queen bed, but cozy and romantic. If you look for a romantic place to stay, this is the right place. The bedding was outstanding. the furniture was modern and beautiful. Food and services were outstanding. It's close to every where. Attractions and time square highlights are within a minutes walking distance.

This is a must hotel to stay.

Room Tip: We believe that every room is good. If you do not want to hear the traffic, request for a high floor...

I had a mix up about my hotel booking. BUT the staff went above and beyond
in understanding my situation and made everything be right. Today most Hotels and airlines
if there is a change or a problem they say sure we can change or fix it,, it will be $dollars
But this hotel response was it ok we understand, and all it cost me was a Thank you

What makes a place beautiful is the people that manage it

Thank you soo much

Vacation dates 30 June to 06 July 2013

I divided my vacation into two difference experiences the first 4 nights I stayed at The Algonquin Hotel wanted to get the feel off what its to stay in the middle of the city the multitude of people, the noise it was just crazy in a good way the personnel where excellent they provide us with excellent customer service experience very helpful the room was nice a but tiny but had an excellent décor ,the second part of my vacation I wanted to be more out going so we decided to move to the New York Marriott east side it’s a wonderful hotel rooms are larger and its offer many onside amenities I will most likely return to the Marriott east side hotel and stay a full week instead of 2 night .

Overall I will recommend both hotel the staff are knowledgeable and very patience.

We have stayed at the Algonquin on many NY trips and always feel comfortable there. This time we were pleasantly surprised by the renovations, the room seemed more luxurious and everything was new and clean. We just wish Matilda was still roaming freely around the lobby ( I'm sure the staff does as well.)

If you are looking for a nice hotel in mid town, consider the Algonquin. The rooms are nicely renovated, but they are small. If you have a short stay, as we did, it didn't matter to us. The rooms are nicely appointed and very clean. The flood and drink prices are high if you are planning to eat and drink there, but with so many options in the area, you can easily find other options. The only negative for me was the complimentary coffee and tea service in the lobby in the mornings. No cream for your coffee or tea...only milk??? And, Lipton tea bags. I had to walk across the street to Gregory's. The parfait and bagel and lox we had for breakfast were great, however. I would stay there again.
