“What a bad hotel!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013 via mobile

I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights just before Christmas with the familly, we had 2 rooms both on the 5th floor, when i first entered the room it looked like something out of the 1970's, very dated and old, then I heard the noise, it sounded like I was still in the street, I went to the window and found I had a balcony I was pleasantly surprised, then i saw that the door did not shut properly and there was a gap about 2 inches which was why it was so noisy, walking onto the balcony was like entering a students house, it looked like it had not been cleaned for months judging by all the cigarette butts and beer bottles, my girlfriend called housekeeping who did tidy this the next day but many of the cigarette butts were left in the room! My parents room was not so noisy from the outside but a fire alarm that beeped every 30 seconds, they called reception who got somebody to look at it, instead of fixing it just removed the whole thing, lucky there was not a fire!
Overall one of the worst hotels I have stayed in for comfort and sleep due to the old beds and noise from outside but still it was a great location

Some people seem as though they will complain over anything. I read reviews about this hotel before our stay and was feeling a bit apprehensive because of quite a few negative comments. I have no idea what people are whinging about. We stayed at the Manhattan at Times Square for 11 nights over Christmas and New Year and had a great stay. The room was clean and tidy everyday and I found the staff to be nothing but polite and helpful. The location of this hotel is fantastic and I would definitely stay here again.

Staff were so rude and unwilling to assist. We were actually whistled at to gain our our attention. Linen had holes and floor had not been vacuumed. On more than one occasion staff gave a sarcastic response to a question. Staff were also observed to make personal phone calls whilst we were being served. Just horrible expensive stay.

We had a two double bed 18th floor room and we still experienced lots of street noise. We also had a whole day/night of intermittent party noise from the group of young ladies next door. Security responded the two times we requested--once for really foul language while they got dressed for dinner and dancing, and again at 4am when they reunited and recounted their night. The hotel is on the 'used' side with comfy beds and pillows. Pillows are great for masking sounds. Lobby staff was business-like. Wi-fi was not free. No restaurant on site, but lots of eateries around the Time Square area. The temperature stayed true to what we needed and the room staff was pleasant and competent. Not too many outlets, lighting was good, curtains needed to be more efficient (deaden sound, cover windows better against the light). Very close to theaters, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, major shopping.

Room Tip: All two double bed rooms (good for families with children) are on noisy 7th Avenue. Go higher for l...

the only thing going for this hotel is the location. it needs a major remodel. no pool, no restaurant anymore, the gift store was even closed. the staff was nice, and the rooms were clean, but the hallways on every floor needed vaccumed, and the rooms just were very outdated. nothing fancy. the location was great though.

Really the only good thing that I can say about this hotel is the location is pretty awesome. Easy walking distance to Broadway shows, Times Square, etc. And the price isn't bad. That being said, the hotel has a serious noise problem. You can hear the people in the hallway and next door and above and below you pretty clearly, even when they're talking in normal conversation voices. When we first got here I sneezed and someone walking by our room in the hallway said "bless you." No kidding. The bathroom was run down and the shower drain was slow. Really really bare bones - no frills at all. The bed skirt on one of the beds had a large brown stain on it, easily visible, which calls into question the general cleanliness of the room in general.

We arrived to find out they didn't have our booking, when they found the booking the room only had one bed (me, my mum & my daughter!). The staff are miserable and unhelpful, the rooms are filthy, tv had no remote. We had booked Christmas dinner only to find out that they had closed the restaurant!!!!
