10 years ago the Paramount was one of the coolest hotels in the ciry - now, not so much. The rooms have not been maintained - we had peeling enamel in the tub and mold on the ceiling, as well as chipped paint on the bathroom door. The beds need to be replaced, and the carpet is worn. Everything was fairly clean, but just worn and no longer nice.

The Mezzanine resturant is no longer open for dinner and the library bar is closed - very sad, as these used to be so good I would come in for dinner when staying at other hotels! Mini-bar empty and no room service. Dean and Deluca in the lobby is still great and the lobby is still very unique.

The Paramount was always one of the hotels I looked at when coming to New York, but I'm afraid that this will no longer be the case unless I hear they are renovating extensively. The property was great when it was an Ian Schrager property, so-so when it was owned my Sol Melia and is not very good now that it has changed hands again.

A business partner booked us three singles at the Paramount from may 14th to may 18th 2008. We could not book our usual hotel in NYC so we decided to go for this one.
Just to start I've been checked in a room with a huge air con vent right outside my window...it was like being on 747 taking off all day and all night.
Had my room changed, this one was better...but..

Rooms are small like hostel ones, bathrooms just acceptable with steel furnituresf that make them look more like a jail than an hotel.
Staff is ok, but just ok...they didn't want to lend us an umbrella amnd it was raining like hell! They refused to give us a late check out and have been not really helpful at all.
Minibars were locked and , as per the staff explanation, they can't open them as they had troubles...
Hotel looked tired and dirty, if you exclude the famous Philip Stark lobby the rest is really below average and all this for for an average of 300 bucks a night!
Oh!...and no breakfast, that's a separate thing.
So, if you are in NYC or plan to go there, DON'T go to the Paramount as it's a real scam for your money.

We had originally booked in here for a week but after the first night we checked out and went to another hotel.

The room was embarrassingly small (we had a superior) with the bed low down to the floor and the floor itself dirty. The bathroom was not clean (hair in the sink etc) and the finishings all old and worn out. The bed was not made properly and when I went to retrieve my cell phone from under the bed I almost contemplated leaving it there given the dirt I found.

The breakfast buffet was good but the price they charged including service which was non-existant and ultimately took away the last grain of hope.

You can not take it away from them that the concept of design is good and this could be a great hotel especially given the location which is central but it has been left to decay which is a shame.

The staff are friendly enough but lacking the finesse of a good hotel.

Never again!

I just got back from nyc i stayed at the paramount when i checked in they gave me a free upgrade. how nice. when i arrived the staff were very friendly i got into my room expecting i don't know what because of some of the reviews. i was surprised to find that it was not at all bad. a little old and the carpets needed cleaned. somewhat small but it is nyc.the beds were very comfortable as i have a bad back. i slept so good. the bedding was superb. the shower felt wounderfull as it had a lot of power felt great after a long day. i am planning on going back to nyc and i would stay here again the location was GREAT so close to every thing the staff couldn't have been nicer. thanks for making my trip a pleasent and safe one
