10 years ago the Paramount was one of the coolest hotels in the ciry - now, not so much. The rooms have not been maintained - we had peeling enamel in the tub and mold on the ceiling, as well as chipped paint on the bathroom door. The beds need to be replaced, and the carpet is worn. Everything was fairly clean, but just worn and no longer nice.
The Mezzanine resturant is no longer open for dinner and the library bar is closed - very sad, as these used to be so good I would come in for dinner when staying at other hotels! Mini-bar empty and no room service. Dean and Deluca in the lobby is still great and the lobby is still very unique.
The Paramount was always one of the hotels I looked at when coming to New York, but I'm afraid that this will no longer be the case unless I hear they are renovating extensively. The property was great when it was an Ian Schrager property, so-so when it was owned my Sol Melia and is not very good now that it has changed hands again.
