We had originally booked in here for a week but after the first night we checked out and went to another hotel.

The room was embarrassingly small (we had a superior) with the bed low down to the floor and the floor itself dirty. The bathroom was not clean (hair in the sink etc) and the finishings all old and worn out. The bed was not made properly and when I went to retrieve my cell phone from under the bed I almost contemplated leaving it there given the dirt I found.

The breakfast buffet was good but the price they charged including service which was non-existant and ultimately took away the last grain of hope.

You can not take it away from them that the concept of design is good and this could be a great hotel especially given the location which is central but it has been left to decay which is a shame.

The staff are friendly enough but lacking the finesse of a good hotel.

Never again!

I just got back from nyc i stayed at the paramount when i checked in they gave me a free upgrade. how nice. when i arrived the staff were very friendly i got into my room expecting i don't know what because of some of the reviews. i was surprised to find that it was not at all bad. a little old and the carpets needed cleaned. somewhat small but it is nyc.the beds were very comfortable as i have a bad back. i slept so good. the bedding was superb. the shower felt wounderfull as it had a lot of power felt great after a long day. i am planning on going back to nyc and i would stay here again the location was GREAT so close to every thing the staff couldn't have been nicer. thanks for making my trip a pleasent and safe one

I had got this hotel at a very good price (under $200 per night) so I was happy about it from the beginning. It is currently under going renovations so the facade of the hotel is covered with scaffolding and covers. There was no one there to open the doors for us so we struggled in with 4 large pieces of luggage.
The foyer was nice and open with lots of seating. Checkin was very fast and easy. We were given a newly renovated room on the 19th floor(very top) It was such a tiny tiny room but it had all we needed including a walk in wardrobe where we stored our bags etc. The bathroom was a good size with all new fixtures. It did look like a very hurried reno job on the room though as it really hadnt been finished off very well. Our room faced the street and scaffolding of course and even though it had double glazed windows we could still hear a lot of street noise. There must also have been the A/C unit on the roof as we could hear a loud machinary noise all the time. We were supposed to have a QS bed but it was only a double and mattress was not really too good. I kept rolling into the dip made by my husband. Check out was very good. If paying by credit card then they just put your account under the door morning of check out and if all ok you ring and leave a voice message that "Smith in room 1931 are leaving". A bonus is that the hotel is directly across the road from the Tix new outlet so not far to get your show tickets. It is so close to Time Square that it really cant fault the place if for that alone. We would diffinately stay there again. We didnt use either but there is a nice deli downstairs and a bar that was opened by Madonna. Overall not too bad a place to stay

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel at an amazing rate on Hotwire.com. The location was awesome, a few steps to Times Square, all the Broadway shows and more. The room was small but clean and efficient. Nice bar/lounge downstairs with $12 martinis : ) The concierge gave us bad directions two different times. Check in and out very quick and friendly, nice staff. We found the hotel to be clean and very cute, funky furnishings. Would definitely reccomend this place to anyone traveling to Manahattan who wants a great location and doesn't mind a small room! We did not spend much time in it, anyway!

I stayed three nights at the Paramount this past weekend and it was mostly a good experience - but with some glitches.

The rooms are fun and inspired, but they are small and the details are cheap. The bed was comfortable enough - but certainly not a great bed. The sheets were wonderful. We booked a queen and they upgraded us to a king when we checked in, but it was a room directly across from the elevator. We did enjoy the king bed. The constant ringing of the elevator, not so much.

The front desk staff was nice overall, but understaffed. There are tons of european travelers who have confusing itineraries and were booked through small agencies - it makes for quite an administrative challenge, so lines were nearly always long and winding.

The third night, we came back to the room and it smelled like cigarette smoke. Apparently, our neighbor had smoked in his bathroom and the smoke came into our room via a shared bathroom vent. Housekeeping offered to bring up an air ionizer, but they never came.

They also gave us "complimentary" breakfast vouchers on check in - with a hitch that we would have to pay a $9 service fee each morning. Not bad for a breakfast in the city, but not truly complimentary either. There were a lot of little things like this - it was $10 to store bags the day of checkout, and there were a few too many bell boys and door men. Someone would pick my bag up, walk 5 steps, hand it to someone else, who would walk another 2 steps and call the taxi. I didn't even know who to tip. When there are so many people helping, tipping becomes almost irrelevant. And you're tipping for a service that barely happened rather than special attention and a job well done.

Overall, the hotel is a fun place to stay and a pretty good deal for the neighborhood. It's definately worth a try.

  • Liked — Rooms and lobby are really fun, staff was very kind and helpful
  • Disliked — A lot of nickel and diming that I'd rather have included in the room price.
