Stayed at the Novotel with my husband, sister and 8 year old daughter, all four of us were in one room with 2 double beds and we found it plenty big enough, after all you're only there to sleep !! Room was clean and quiet, maid service every day. Never encountered any problems with staff and they were always pleasant. Didn't eat in hotel, as mentioned by others, there are many places to eat and most are reasonably priced. Hotel is in a fantastic position, this was my main reason for picking it as not sure how far an 8 year old would be willing to walk. We were on the 17th floor and had a fantastic view of Times Square,.
Times Square is amazing, Toys r Us has a working ferris wheel inside, great for kids young and old.
Get to the Empire State Building early and pay the extra to got to the 102 floor (extra $14) it well worth it. We got there about 9.45am any later and we'd have been queuing for ages.
If you can take a trip to Serendipity3 (225 E60th Street) they do amazing desserts and foot long hot dogs !! but have been told they can get VERY busy on an evening (we went late afternoon)
Used the subway but it was a bit confusing !! Cabs are reasonable less than $20 down to Battery Park and a great way to see the sights.
Would definitely stay at the Novotel again and would recommend it to anyone. Already planning my next visit :)

Just returned from a 4 day trip to New York City (April 2006) and stayed at the Novotel New York.

We caught the bus from JFK airport to Port Authority station and saved $40 US dollars in taxi fares. The station was 15-20 minutes walk away from the hotel through the hustle and bustle of all the action in Times Square.

The hotel itself was at the top end of Times Square in an excellent position for a short visit to New York. The room was comfortable, with a large bed and adequate bathroom. We had hoped that this room was as per the pictures advertised on Expedia but was a little disappointed that the room was average but clean all the same.

We stayed in room 3208 which had a great view of Times Square and the surrounding neighbourhood and high enough to also avoid the general city noise from below.

We didn't eat at the hotel as there are plenty of deli's and restaurant nearby with excellent choice of food and great value for money - we didn't think New York was as expensive as we had read from other reviews (and we're not loaded!)

The visit to the Empire State building is definately worth it but be prepared for long queues (this also goes for Statue of Liberty) and security checks but once up on the 86th floor the view is breathtaking on a clear day.

For those scared of lifts (like me!) you only have to go through a 45second ride from ground to the 86th but I can safely say that my fear of lifts has been conquered as you cannot go anywhere in NYC without getting into a lift!!!!!

There is so much to see we couldn't get round everywhere in the time we had. Central Park is lovely and would have liked to have spent more time wandering.

A walk over the Brooklyn Bridge for true romance sealed with a kiss from your beloved in the centre of the bridge with the Manhatten skyline behind you is a must ;0)

Oh yeah, and keep your eyes peeled for that cheeky Naked Cowboy on Times Square.... say no more!!!

Will definitely be back for more - Loved it.

We stayed in the Novotel in April 2006. We thought its was fantastic. The location couldnt be better for all the sites! We had a time square view which was just amazing, didnt matter time of day or night you looked out! (on the 14th floor) The hotel staff were very friendly. It was my friends birthday when we were there and when we got back that day there was a massive piece of cheesecake and a birthday card for her - which I thought was a lovely touch.

Our room had 2 double beds in, mini bar, tv etc. The only thing was no coffee/tea but that was very minor. All in all Id have no problem staying there again!

Good clean hotel in a fabulous location. Maid service every day and bar staff very friendly.
Was my Birthday while we stayed and got a card and a cheesecake from the hotel. Had to show key pass to access hotel. I cannot understand review saying it was dangerous as lobby was on 7th floor and there was no 5th floor for that person to stay on. Good place to stay

I stayed at the Novotel New York over the easter bank holiday in April 2006 and had a fantastic time. The hotel is in a great location, the rooms were clean and had everything we needed. They weren't luxurious but you get what you pay for. We had no problem with uncomfortable beds or thin walls as i have just read on a previous review, the staff were all very polite and we had a great view of Manhatten from the 21st floor.

The maid cleaned and changed our towells everyday and even left my boyf a slice of cake on the last night as i had informed reception that it was a special bday for him.
Overall, a fab hotel in a good location. If you want to stay somewhere more plush than i suggest booking an alternative hotel.
Do watch out for the price of the room bar though, $5 for a small bottle of water!!!
