“Way disappointing for a Marriott”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

Very dated room. Stay at Marriotts globally and this one is way below what we expect. Double room was very small even by Manhattan standards and very dated with old carpeting, old furniture. Room had a musty smell especially in the bathroom. There was a large area between the 2 beds that was saturated with water. We put a towel on it to absorb it and told the front desk. When we got back to the room, the towel was still there and nothing was done. We would have asked for a different room but we had to go somewhere shortly after we checked in and time didn't permit. We booked through the Marriott web site so this was not a "Priceline-type" room. At checkout, the woman at the desk asked about the room and, when I told her, she did give a discount, which was very good from a service perspective. We will stay at other Marriotts in Manhattan but not this one.

Clean, nice, typical Marriott, quiet rooms, great breakfast and friendly staff. Right next to the subway so really easy to get around. Great neighbourhood, safe, lots of great restaurants, close to all the tourist stuff. Enjoy.

We asked for a room on a high floor which gave us a view and made the room quieter. The room was called cozy and it was but it was plenty for two people for two nights. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was well appointed with granite counterspace. The breakfast was great. If you can get the buffet with your stay. It was a $35 per person savings if we had to pay. Well worth it. The bar there is also night and was perfect for a night cap. I liked the location - down the street from Grand Central and only a few blocks from Rockerfeller. Easy to take the Subway up to Central Park too.

Room Tip: Ask for room on higher floor. Get the buffet with your room if you plan to eat here.

This hotel is really beautiful. I was expecting a little more from the room judging from the location of the hotel, the appearance of the lobby, etc. but it was still very nice nonetheless. Just a few blocks from Times Square, midtown, Central Park, and extremely close to all Subways. Room was upgraded (comfortable beds, flat-screen tvs, upgraded shower, etc.) and was always cleaned up by the time we got back to the room. I'd definitely come back for a stay.

Room Tip: Corner suites have a lot of windows and light (but be sure to put the blinds down at night because o...

Nice hotel in a very good location. Fancy enough for a Marriott ... but I would call it a good 4 star hotel, not a 5-star. Clean & modern enough. But just like everywhere in NYC, the staff could be more courteous.

Positives:
- Excellent location for mid-town Manhattan (Grand Central, Times Square, 5th Ave, Central Park).
- Modern rooms - not too big or small (NYC standard size - I have stayed at 2 other equally expensive NYC hotels - rooms & bathrooms were the same size).
- Good Pizza on the room service menu
- Fast internet

Negatives
- Long lines at checkin (even for Platinum members)
- Very hard to get attention of front-desk staff
- Very hard to get the house-keeping to send me a list of charges for their laundry services
- Street Noise -- but that seems to be normal in NYC

Overall a decent place - but wouldn't go back in a rush.

We enjoyed the stay here, a classic as classic you can get in Marriott. The top of this experience is going to the gym at sunrise and enjoy the great view over East river. The bar, restaurant and all other services meets expectation. The staff is wonderfull all around

I stayed for 3 nights last weekend. The room was facing the Lexington street which was very noisy at night. I could hear all kind noises from the street because the window was not double pane.

The room was also right in front of the elevators. Some people was chatting very loudly while waiting for the elevators. I could hear all their conversations from my bed.

Other than the noises, the room was nice and spacious for NYC standard.
