Great Location.. Starbucks just a few yards away, "City Tours" Open Top Tour Bus across the street and Grand Central Times Square not far away..
Our room was quite adequate and comfortable wth plenty of clothes closet & drawers, large TV & safe. The bar area on the ground floor is well equiped and roomy but failed to serve us when we arrived late back at 12:30 one evening (informed that State Law forbids service!!!).
The Concierge offered us the choice of limos to Newark Airport instead of taxis & train transport on our departure, which was much mor relaxing.
I would highly recommend this hotel if visiting NYC.

We have stayed in the junior suite for twelve nights in this hotel. It was great because this room made posible to acomodate all 5 together (2 adults and 3 children). This suite was big enough for us, if i am not wrong it has around 30 square meters. Just 5 minutes walking ro the subway and around 15 minutes to the 5th Avenue and others...
Staff was great and very kindless !
When back to New York it will be sure to stay there again !

Room Tip: For 5 people the junior suite is the best value !

Very close to Grand Central Terminal and easy walk to Times Square, without being in the thick of it. Close to several markets and very convenient if going to the USOpen as the #7 train out of GCT is very close. Also close to other big name hotels.

Room Tip: Got a double queen room around the corner from the elevator so noise was never an issue

We recently stayed in a junior suite at the Marriott East Side. The suite was roomy with a large closet, safe and desk area. It had a hidden refrigerator and a nice sized television. It could have used another sink in the vanity area and the toilet was very loud and took a long time to refill, but other than that the room was lovely. It was nice and clean and well maintained. Our room was quiet and we did not hear other guests even though we were told they were sold out. WiFi is available and quite expensive, but for some reason we were told ours would be complementary, which was a nice bonus, however you have to re-register each day for the service. Valet parking is expensive ($75/day) and off site. They take your car and request 30 minutes notice if you want to go out.

Since it is an "old" hotel (not built as a Marriott) it has a true lobby with plenty of bellman to assist us. The doormen were friendly and helpful and the front desk was accommodating to our needs. We never had to wait long for a elevator which is always a plus. I would like to stay here again during my next visit.

Room Tip: Lower floors have larger rooms as the hotel narrows the higher it goes because of the sky codes for...

Let's start with expectations: 1) It's New York 2) It's Manhattan. Booked for Girls weekend for US Open Tennis. Room was a "cozy king" that was actually roomy. Bathroom was tight, but it suited our needs. Clean room, plenty of towels and toiletries refreshed each day. Lexington Avenue is a nice change of pace from the Times Square hustle. Lot's of friendly smiles from hotel employees and willingness to assist. Didn't get a chance to check out the terrace lounge, but lobby area was nice and guests seemed to enjoy relaxing there. Good area for getting to the Open on the #7 via Grand Central Terminal.
P.S. no elevator problems as reported in previous reviews.

I debated for weeks about whether or not we would stay at the Eastside or at the nearby Residence Inn during a 5 night vacation on points. The Residence Inn offered some kitchen facilities for some in room dining possibilities, while the Eastside had the concierge lounge (for Gold members) with hot hor d'oeuvres late afternoon and evening and dessert at night (all of good quality and more substantial than expected) WITH the attached terrace to enjoy a drink on a nice summer evening. SO, the Eastside won out due to the terrace--and guess what--it was closed!! Disappointed that the person I talked to did not tell me this as I asked about it specifically when I was going through my decision making process. BUT, they did accommodate our party of 4 in a larger than normal room by combining points + cash, which made for a wonderful, comfortable stay. We found the staff to be VERY helpful and responsive, especially when I had internet problems. The promised morning newspaper did not show up, nor did turn down service, but we were so busy/tired we didn't really notice until the day before we left, so decided not to make an issue of it. No breakfast on Saturday or Sunday morning in the lounge, but this allowed us to go out to the Village for a nice brunch and on the other mornings found the lounge breakfast superior to any Residence Inn breakfast I've ever had. Only complaint--why don't they have some china coffee/tea mugs vs the cardboard ones? Beds were wonderful, had both a whirlpool tub and a separate shower, mini fridge for our drinks. No problems with the elevator (in contrast to the Marquis), never a wait. Three blocks to the subway, 2 to the bus line and of course, a taxi to be had out the front door. Dos Caminos is only a couple of blocks away and a great choice for dinner.

Room Tip: Tell them what you need and why, and I am sure you will be taken care of appropriately.

After having avoided for years NYC chain hotels and opting instead for various boutique ones, we have to admit it was a mistake. Every 'boutique' hotel we stayed in NYC always featured a room a size of a matchbox. Marriott East Side, however, provided a quite spacious accommodation, where one doesn't feel cornered in. Plus the much nicer, much calmer and less crowded location - as opposed to West Side, Times Square, etc. - was definitely a big plus.
A few other highlights. This was our first time a hotel room didn't have a mini-bar, which fell under 'good riddance' category. The lobby was crowded and lacked intimacy but it is fully expected from a Marriott. The soundproofing wasn't great as far as hallways and adjacent rooms were concerned, but our windows facing the bustling Lexington Ave did a good job of keeping the noise outside.
A Manhattan hotels' inherent problem of rattling AC units wasn't that bad. And surprisingly the TV reception (on a decent size flat screen) wasn't bad either.
The Wi-Fi is about $17 per day. Very expensive.
The hotel parking/valet is very expensive too, around $75 per night. We, however, were able to get a Groupon deal for an Icon parking on 53rd St (about 9 minutes walk) and it cost us $46 for 2 nights.
Breakfast provided by the hotel is as expensive as hotels breakfasts get, but the location offers you multiple other choices so you can save big.
The value we got from Expedia was amazing, around $260 for 2 nights, but the usual rate is more like $400 per night. We would recommend one look for various deals (Groupon, LivingSocial, etc.) to get a more budget-friendly rate.

Room Tip: Our room was termed 'cozy room' and was of a decent size. Recommended.
