“Great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

Nice, clean hotel with a perfect location right by 5th avenue. Safe neighbourhood. We stayed in 14th floor; not much noise from the streets, but quite a lot from the airconditioning! Staff at front desk was helpful. Taxi provided by the hotel is overcharged - stay clear...

Stayed here for 5 days for the St Patricks Day parade in March and I could not be more happy with this hotel for my second visit to New York. We were concerned it wouldn't be good because of the deal we got on it, but we could not have been more wrong! After a 12 hour journey to get there, we were delighted by the speedy check in we received and the help we got on arrival. The staff were welcoming and very polite. We were given an upgraded room on check in too. Our room was a king and had plenty of space for myself and my friend - we never felt that we were crowding each other. And the bed was amazing, my second great nights sleep in an NYC hotel! Our rooms were cleaned daily, and we were not disturbed if we requested. There was a mini bar in the room if we needed it. The TV in the room had a wide selection of channels, there was also something to watch when we were relaxing before exploring again. The front desk provided maps and helpful tips for getting around the city. We couldn't get the wifi to work but there is free wifi in Starbucks that you will find on literally every corner of every block! We were woken one morning by the American army marching up Madison Ave at 7am, but we were more excited to see it happening! We got room 1212 on the 12th floor, and the view of the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING was fantastic, literally just round the corner from the hotel. It's about a ten minute walk to Macy's, and fifteen to Times Square, but Grand Central is only a few blocks away. Overall, I loved this hotel and would definitely book again.

Room Tip: Our room was 1212, comfy bed and excellent view!

With rates near Times Square always extremely high, this place was the cheapest among the available hotels with a good location. Rooms were pretty small but the place was clean. The service was nothing great to speak about however the location was pretty awesome. It is just a ten minute walk to Times Square. This place is okay if you want to spend one night.

I was pleasantly surprised. Although our one-queen-bed 4th floor room had not been updated, it was perfectly clean, the fridge worked, and the bathroom was spanking glass-and-marble new. I was glad to discover it's an NH hotel; while this was not of the caliber of the NH hotels I've stayed at in Europe, still it kept to acceptable standards of cleanliness and service. The room was small but not tiny, and there was enough space for an AM workout. We overlooked 38th street, which was quiet and in a great location for our trips to the museums on the Upper East Side as well as midtown and Times Square, and with the subways, essentially anywhere in the city. Check-in was efficient, and they didn't charge to store our luggage on the day we checked out. A small problem with the toilet was dealt with in minutes after I called. I would stay here again, though I never thought I'd pay $220/nt for a 3-star hotel in NY and consider it a bargain.

Just stayed recently 3 nights at the Jolly Madison.
Really bad experience at check-in, there is a lack of training for the staff who is definitely arrogant.
The housekeeper is on voicemail all day long...and i have to experience some major pipes issues in the bathroom (all toilet and bath water rejected) ... And again not possible to get any maintenance guy.
i think they know they are ideally located and that they will be full no matter what...For usd350 per night, I was expecting some service, there was none.

Room Tip: Avoid 1151 next to the elevator...964 which is like a showbox;..I recommend 1464, corner room - nois...

One thing that irritates us, is that the more you pay for a hotel, the more the hotel will charge you for wifi. In this day and age, it's just about enough to become a deal breaker - that's why this hotel only gets 3 stars.

Anyway, we arrived early for checkin, and were offered 2 singles immediately, or a queen bed later that day. We were tired and just wanted to have a shower, so we took the two singles. The room isn't modern, but acceptable. The massive CRT TV with grainy reception reminds me of my childhood anyway. Location isn't bad, though the nearest subway is about 4 blocks away. Couple of blocks to 5th ave and Gramercy Park, Grand Central.

Not an outstanding hotel, reasonable value at about USD$150 inc tax per night for Manhattan in September. Give your guests free wifi and your ratings will improve.

The location is excellent. You’re walking distance from Empire State, Central Station, Macy’s and Bryant Park. Subway stations, restaurants and bars are everywhere around. The rooms (as the entire hotel) are clean, but need refurbishment. Nevertheless you cannot be picky in Manhattan, particularly if you don’t want to spend a lot. Overall it was a good experience, especially compared to my 1st staying in NY.
