“great location, comfy suite!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

Stayed for 2 nights in June 2013 in a suite at 11th floor. Staff was very helpful, they took care of my car with the parking and solved very fast some issues with the room. The suite was very comfortable, the bathroom is huge and modern, the a/c a bit dated and noisy but it did the job and could have a good night sleep. The hotel's location is very convenient, walking distance to Grand Central and Time Sq. It was a great NY experience!

Hotel location was great. Quiet street, very nice neighborhood, close to train station and subway. Front desk was friendly, and they were as accomidating as I believe they could be, travelled with friends and they were able to get us on the same floor. They were nice and welcoming. When I mentioned that I had heard the rooms on the higher floors were nicer, they said yes, but weren't able to upgrade me into one of them.

We had a room on the 11th floor, room was dated, bed was very lumpy and old. I wouldn't consider this a 3 star hotel, it reminded me more of staying at your grandparents house, funiture was very dated & mismatched, fixtures, curtains, even carpet were also dated. Never used the TV but it was a large old 19 inch square box. Didn't realize until the next morning that the shower drain had hair in it, I hadn't yet showered so it wasn't mine, the cleaning crew didn't clear it out when they were cleaning. There was a small bottle of hand lotion that I believe was either left from the previous people or just not replaced when the cleaning crew was there, as it was half full.

If I hadn't gotten a great deal on this hotel via express deals I would have been very disappointed with this room, but for the price I paid it was ok, not great, not even good.

I booked the Jolly Madison back in February after I found a $149 rate for my trip June 22-27. I was a tad nervous due to some reviews and I wanted my 13 year old son's first trip to NYC to be perfect. We checked arrived about 11 am and was told our room was not ready yet.... And that was fine. Stowed our bags and off we went . Came back about 3 and was sent to a room on the 7th floor. Had I been on a solo business trip , that room would have been fine. It was sorta small and not conducive to traveling with a teenager so I called down , explained my situation and was promptly given a gorgeous room on the 15th floor with an amazing view of the Empire State Building and a beautiful bathroom . We were in heaven and that set the pace for an amazing trip . The Jolly is perfectly located on 38th and Madison and convenient to EVERYWHERE! The bellman were super nice and helpful and a huge THANK YOU to Stephano at
the front desk. Lots of foreign visitors gave my teen an international experience. We will definitely be back !

Would give it three points for facilities and standard. However, the location and very serviceminded staff raises it to four points. Extra plus to Rocco in the reception for all extra help. Ask for a room that has view to the streets.

Located at 22 East / 38th Street, New York , just 4 blocks away from Grand Central , you can't expect a better , centrally located hotel at this amazingly affordable price ( $ 209 per room night ).

Situated , as you may call it , at the heart of NY city . Most of the must see attractions like Broadway , Times Square , Grand Central Station , Bryant Park , Rockfeller Centre & the New York Public Library are walkin distnace ( less than 10 minutes ) from this hotel.

> The rooms are not very big but fairly neat ( including the bathroom ).
> The view from the rooms are nothing much to write home about . Only high rise buildings.
> There aren't any full fledged room service in the hotel ( except for breakfast at an additional cost ) but there are enough and more eating joints in and around the hotel .

The Pluses :

1. Excellent Location
2. Decent rooms / bathrooms which are clean
3. Friendly & courteous Staff members.

The minuses :

1. No mini bars ( fridge ) in any rooms.
2. If after noon you need a bottle of water there is no one to get it for you. You will have to walk to the nearest Departmental Store to pick up your Water Bottles.
3. If at odd hours you feel like grabbing a bite , you again have to go out and eat.

If someone asks me if I will stay there again ...the answer will be : YES !! Simply because of its great location and affordable price.

Note : These are purely my unbiased / personal observations.

Room Tip: Tips : Road facing ooms on the higher floors are brighter & less noisy.

Quiet hotel with larger rooms and bathrooms for NY standards! Free internet at least in the lobby computer , would have made this an outstanding discovery. Checked out very early and receptionist went out to locate me a taxi, found this an unusual gesture.
