“Good location, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2014 via mobile

Located within walking distance of everything midtown, theaters, Rockefeller center, grand central, central park. Valet parking is $70 for every 24 hours. Room is clean but bathroom is very small. Room insulation not very good as you can almost hear the neighbors - Probably because of its age. Overall a good value.

This is a great location in midtown east which makes it centrally located to many tourist options including Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Broadway, Grand Central and the subway to name a few.

I booked this through Priceline for a 3 night stay for $221 per night. Upon arrival the lady at the front desk acted like she was doing us a favor by checking us in. No eye contact no pleasantries just going through the motions of her job. I asked if double beds were available and she said no, at the discounted rate only the king was available. Not a good impression and I was a bit concerned for our stay. However, the rest of the staff that we encountered were enjoyable and helpful and made us feel welcome so I guess she was just having a bad day and it's not a reflection of the hotel as a whole.

The room itself was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The entry to the room was a bit small with the front door banging against the closet when you first walk in so you couldn't open it fully. Also the same closet door wouldn't fully open because it would hit the light fixture above but they were just minor annoyances. We were on the 7th floor and yes you hear some street noise but...it's New York. We never had to wait long for an elevator even though one of the three looked to be out of service.

There were a couple false fire alarms one day that had to be investigated by the fire department and we were asked to stay in our room for approx. 30-45minutes which was a slight inconvenience but we were getting ready anyway and safety is the number one concern.

I would stay here again if the price was right.

This was my third stay at this hotel. It has a welcoming turn of the century (1900) charm but does not bear the burden of lack of amenity. It is conveniently located. However the staff were not particularly helpful. I am happy not to have intrusive staff but I felt that on this occasion the staff were not interested in our comfort.

What a beautiful hotel. We stayed 3 nights and had a fantastic time. The room was large and the bed so comfortable you do not want to get up in the morning!! The bathroom was not large but very clean with plenty of towels. The staff was very helpful and courteous. On our next trip to New York we hope that the hotel will be open as it will be closing soon for a major renovation.

We stayed here for 4 nights in May 2014 and had a room on the 4th floor facing 48th. We could hear a bit of traffic, but it was never loud enough to wake us up or bother us. The room was spacious, as far as NYC hotel rooms go, and it was just perfect for my husband and I.

I gave a 3-star rating because of two slight inconveniences regarding housekeeping. We checked in on Saturday afternoon and by Monday afternoon, the room had not been cleaned or serviced at all. I told the front desk and they politely apologized and sent housekeeping to the room immediately. On Tuesday, the room was promptly serviced except for small bath towels. It seems like they just forgot, because the towel rack is hidden behind the door. Called front desk again and they sent up towels 30 minutes later.

Despite these inconveniences, we would probably stay here again because of its cleanliness, comfy beds, and central location.

Dear Angel,

Thanks for the feedback.
Although we can clearly feel your overall experience was mainly positive, we are terribly sorry the feeling you took away with you is the impression that we fell so short of our usual high standards in service. Be sure we will address this issue with our Housekeeping department.

We really much hope you will visit another time and enjoy every minute of your stay

Best regards,
Executive Office

The hotel has a quality, elegant feel to it. The staff were, without exception, very friendly and efficient . Our room (739) located at the end of the corridor was well appointed with storage and facilities such as room safe, hair dryer, iron and board. The bathroom was definitely a one-person at a time affair, but we did not view this as a real negative.
The hotel is located just 4 long blocks across and 4 short down (15 min stroll/10 min stride or $8 taxi) from the top of Times Sq and the Broadway theatres and 3 long blocks across and 12 short down from the Empire State and Macys. We did a bit of research prior to our trip and found out that membership of the IHG rewards club provided free WIFI (normally $12.95 daily) and 2pm checkout on request - worth the effort for a few keystrokes. Other reviews have mentioned tired decor and
We understood that the hotel was to be closed shortly for a complete refurb. It will be worth checking this hotel out after it reopens. Special mention for Luis out front for his directions, advice and getting cabs when we wanted, also Peter on front desk.

This is a nice hotel in a great location. We stayed here for 5 nights in May 2014. We got a room on the 6th floor overlooking East 48th Street. It wasn't as noisy as I thought it was going to be so we managed to sleep really well. The room itself was spacious and had all the amenities you would expect. We like to have an empty fridge in the room for water etc so it was a bit annoying to have a fridge fully stocked with mini bar items. We could have requested them to be removed but we were asked to pay $40 for the privilege in the last Intercontinental hotel we stayed at so we didn't bother.

There isn't a great selection of teas & coffees in the room but we asked for them to give us only decaf coffee and they topped it up each day. They aren't very generous with the amount of milk (half & half) they leave in the room. It seems all the Intercontinental hotels give you a massive box filled with sugars, sweeteners, stirrers and only 2 milk portions. Apart from the milks, which we never had enough of, it was such a waste.

They only provide free wifi in the hotel lobby so we joined the IHG rewards club (which is free) and got complimentary wifi in our room.

Overall we felt the staff at the hotel were quite unfriendly. When we checked in we weren't greeted or welcomed as we had been in many other hotels (including Intercontinental hotels) before. No one asked if we'd stayed there or been to New York before. Similarly when we checked out we weren't asked if we had a nice stay or if we needed a taxi etc. They definitely weren't rude but they certainly weren't friendly either.

The hotel looks a bit dated inside a could do with a freshen up. I believe it will be closing for a year soon for a refurbishment.

Room Tip: Join the IHG rewards club (which is free) and get complimentary wifi in-room

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feelings.
We highly appreciate your nice feedback on the property and really proud to count you among our IHG members! What saddens us is the staff attitude and service quality you are depicting, please let us extend our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience. Rest assured that it is not representative of the outstanding customer service we strive to provide, we are sorry for those unfortunate interactions. We sent you a private message as we would like to get further details.

Our old lady is indeed going to get a facelift, the entire property will soon close its doors for a massive renovation. We hope you will want to be part of it when we reopen!

Thank you once again for this post
Kind regards,
Mylene - Executive Office
