“Great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014

The location of this hotel is awesome! It is writhing walking distance from Times Square, Central Park and Central Station. The price was fair enough, less expensive than most of the hotels in that area. In fact, I booked through Hotwire and got an amazing deal for 2 nights. The room is very clean and comfortable. Also, there are good restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel. The staff was helpful and allowed us to make a late check-out. I would not hesitate in booking this hotel again when going back to NY.

This hotel was featured in the latest Vince Vaughn movie titled Delivery Man. This hotel is in a prime location. !5 minutes away brisk walk from all the hustle and bustle of Times Square/Theatre area. Situated long 48th street between Lexington and Park avenues makes it a good midtown Manhattan hotel location. It is 7 minutes walk to St. Patrick's Cathedral. There are other hotels just 3 minutes away from the Barclay.

We stayed 5 nights in the Barclay and this is my first impression : This hotel looks old world classy but feels old. However, they compensate this with their excellent service as we experienced from the doorman, room service attendant, housekeeping and to the concierge. Their concierge is located in an enclosed very relaxed area and they give you the impression that they are focused on your needs and not rushing while you're dealing with them. You can also stock your personal items in the ref unlike other hotels where this is not allowed. The hotel provides free wifi in the room and lobby.

I would like to share some room tips to make your stay more comfortable. Stay on the highest floor to avoid the noise. Stay in the farthest room from the elevator. The hotel room doors aren't soundproof therefore you could hear all the chatter and laughter of people passing your room. They can also hear your voice if you talk loud on the phone. If you have any complaints about your room such as aircondtioning temperature, report it right away and you will get immediate attention.

For Asians like me, it is convenient to have a Japanese grocery and a very affordable Japanese Donburi/ramen restaurant just 5 minutes off Lexington. There is a grocery at the corner of Lexington and 48th that is open 24 hours and serves salads and Asian food for take-out. Beside it is a pizza store not worth trying. Starbucks is also at the same intersection.

Looking forward to our next stay at the Barclay.

Room Tip: Choose rooms farthest from the elevators. Go for the higher floors for less ground noise.

So many choices in the city, glad we picked this spot. Good location, reasonable prices ( for NYC ), friendly attentive staff. Rooms were kinda small, bathrooms were tiny, but since not much time is spent in the room, the location and price made up for any shortfall. Walking distance to 5th Ave, Times Square, Central Park, UN Hdqtrs, Grand central, MOMA, etc.

Room Tip: Lots of street noise, Go up as high as you can

Excellent hotel in very central position near to Grand Central Station. Very comfortable rooms - towels and bedding changed every day. So convenient for sightseeing in New York. Rooms were a good size and nice bathrooms with bath

Room Tip: We had 2 double rooms with 2 double beds in each.

After a tiring trip I reached the Intercontinental Hotel well past their check-in time of 3 pm. The receptionist on the counter reported that my room was not ready and I was on a "waiting list". On further inquiry, she stated that since it was Saturday, the housekeeping were falling behind and my room was not ready yet. She took my name and telephone number on a blank sheet of paper and informed that she will call me when my room was ready. When I asked for a tentative time when I can expect to check in, her reply was "am not sure, I can't give you a time frame."

I waited in the hotel lobby for almost an hour without any courtesy shown by the hotel staff for their lapse of service. No body called me and it was almost 4 pm. I approached a different receptionist this time and explained him the situation. After sometime he finally got me a room.

It was disappointing to experience the lack of courtesy and unprofessional attitude of the hotel staff. Not to forget that I paid top dollars to book a room at this 4 star hotel where they treat their guests like airline passengers. It is the hotel management's duty to ensure that all rooms are serviced before their check in time. Understaffed or inefficient housekeeping is not an excuse to keep a guest on a "waiting list."

Room Tip: Higher the better, but to be sensible their are far better hotels in NYC at that price range.

Very classy hotel, impressive lobby and amazing decoration throughout the hotel. Room size above NY average size. Service is good but I believe all the staff is expecting you to give big tips. One night the doorman shown a very rude attitude - he called a cab and I didn't have any cash to tip him so I told him I would tip him later...at this point he started moaning and closed the cab door in my face.

This is a reasonable hotel in a good location. Perhaps I was expecting more after staying at the InterContinental in Boston. We visit New York pretty often and get to experience different hotels in Manhattan. But the staff here was helpful, rooms were a good size for New York but the room and bathroom feel pretty old. And I don't really like old rooms. I had a similar feeling at the Waldorf Astoria too, which is really close by to this hotel. Anyway, I would say pretty average hotel in a good location.
