Great place to stay in New York. Staff were friendly and always had a smile. Did not use any of the hotel facilities as out and about for most of the time. Some great restaurants and coffee shops in area. Try Dukes a few blocks from the hotel, should be on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Room was fine for my requirements with clean look and feel. Only negative was every time the neighboring room flushed the toilet the pipes made a loud noise. Not enough to put me off the stay or keep me away next time I am in New York. Not inexpensive but well worth the price.

The hotel lobby and public areas were very smart with an early 20th century look and feel, but the room unfortunately didn't appear to have received any attention from a carpet cleaner, decorator or plumber since the early 20th century. The bed was very comfortable and the 47 inch TV impressive (but who goes to NY to watch TV?), however the room décor was very tired and the carpet so stained and sticky that after showering and walking across the carpet I felt I should go back and wash my feet again. The plumbing was functional - apart from the bath plug which was in pieces due to apparent metal fatigue and the temperature indicator which spun freely around the tap - but looked and felt very dated. Thomas Cook had this listed as a 5 star, although the hotel itself claims 4 star I think, but whoever did the assessment couldn't have got beyond the lobby, restaurant and bar areas.

The intercontinental was a nice hotel but I didn't think the rooms were the greatest. Granted this is the 1st hotel I've stayed in in NYC so I have nothing to compare to, but I thought the bed size was small, definitely seemed smaller than a queen, probably a full or double. The bed was very uncomfortable and in our room the A/C didn't work at all. On the plus size the room was clean, the location was good and didn't have any other problems besides those.

Great location. Quite easy to access via Grand Central. We arrived early and were given a room right away. When we went to get ice the staff offered to do it for us. We didn't allow them to, but appreciated the thought.

The room: We were in a King Superior on the 3rd floor. The room was a good size for NYC. However the bathroom was ridiculously small. It was like a bad dance to close to door while inside. The room was very clean and had a great High Definition TV. Disappointing no free wifi (although this is often the case at the higher end hotels). Standard wifi is $12.95 per 24Hrs.

The noise level even from the 3rd floor was really quite negligible. We hardly noticed. We were mildly annoyed that we requested a high floor and got the lowest possible, but that's OK. The bellman kindly kept our bags all day while we enjoyed the City before a late flight, hailed us a cab and got us on our way to the airport. We'd stay here again.

Gorgeous hotel, great service, fantastic beds, and great personnel. All of which made our visit with our European relatives all the more fun. Don't miss this great location, a real gem of a hotel in midtown Manhattan.

I was recently in NYC for a 4 day trip to sight see, shop, and visit family. This was my first stay at an Intercontinental property and the Barclay definitely exceeded my already high expectations. The hotel is in a great location- very close to Grand Central, great restaurants, and 5th Avenue shopping.

My first impression upon entering the hotel was that it is a classy, well-kept property with special touches like grand arrangements of fresh flowers decorating the entrance. Check-in was smooth and easy and there was plenty of staff on hand to keep the line moving quickly.

We stayed in a king suite on the fourth floor. The room was beautiful and much larger than I expected for NYC. Our suite was very clean and had an amazing view- another wonderful feature I hadn't expected. Also, the bed was possibly the most comfortable I have ever slept in, it was heavenly! I felt that the noise from the traffic was minimal except for the occasional sirens of emergency vehicles but I'm not a light sleeper so I really wasn't affected too much.

I guess my only complaint would have to be the shower. It took FOREVER for the water to get hot which is probably due to the property being pretty old.

I highly recommend this hotel if you're looking for a great place to stay. You can't beat the cleaniless, value, and experience you will get at the Intercontinental Barclay. And the bartender makes the best margarita on the rocks I've ever had!

Room Tip: Go for the suite. You'll be glad you did!

Location: excellent. At Lexington Ave & 48th street.  Plenty of shops and restaurants around.  Easy access to all the sights. Two blocks from subway station (non stop access to JFK Airtrain via E train)

First impressions: Nice building.  Very warm welcome by receptionist and efficient check in. Given a room straight away @ 13:00 (official check in 15:00). Nice lobby, very classic in style, quiet, serene.

The room:  We were in a King Superior (more or less the standard room). First impression was SMALL although this is fairly normal for NYC. However the bathroom is ridiculously small. There is absolutely no way two people could be in there at once. Even when using the toilet it is a bit of a contortionist act to reach the loo and maneuver yourself to get the door closed.  The room was very clean and nicely furnished although it's obviously been sometime since the rooms have had a refurb. Beautifully comfortable bed and great High Definition TV. Disappointing no free wifi (although this is often the case at the higher end hotels). Standard wifi is $12.95 per 24Hrs.

Service/facilities:  we only stayed one night and apart from the receptionist and housekeeping staff we passed it the corridor we had no other interaction. However everyone we dealt with or passed in the hall was friendly.

There is definitely some elements of penny pinching which is unusual for an intercontinental hotel. For example there are in room coffee and tea facilities with a sign saying feel free to call Housekeeping for a top up of tea or coffee - for a nominal charge. You have to 'rent' a power plug adaptor for charge. When you are paying well over $300 per night this kind of thing is a little disappointing.

There is a decent enough gym. It has a range of cardio machines, four Lifestyle resistance/weights machine and a free bench with dumbbells.

Food & drink: we didn't eat any meals in the hotel so cannot comment. But the meals seem pricey which is to be expected from a high end NYC hotel. For example, a flick through the room service menu shows the full room service breakfast at $42. Plus 22% service charge. Plus tax. Plus 'tray charge'. So for two people having room service breakfast you are looking at well over a hundred bucks!

Pros: Location. Friendly efficient service. Comfy beds.

Cons: Dated rooms. Tiny bathroom. No free wifi (not even in lobby/public areas). Penny pinching by charging for things like tea and coffee top ups and borrowing adaptor plugs.
