Great location. Excellent value. Helpful and friendly staff. Decent rooms & a good breakfast to boot. Easy access to public transportation (subways). Good restaurants in the area. Walk to Broadway shows.

Compared to the prices of other hotels in NYC and this area, this hotel is a great value. The rooms were nice and the staff was courteous and helpful. We were able to walk to Broadway shows, Central Park, Times Square, the Museum of Modern Art and Hell's Kitchen. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

We're Hilton Honors members so we're almost always staying at a Hilton property. We stayed at this property because of it's high rating here and it's location.
The check-in was pretty smooth. We were able to store our bags as we were early. The service on the bag check was hit or miss; there was a tall guy that wasn't very friendly and could use some customer service training. However, there was another guy that was very pleasant and attentive.
The room was standard Hampton Inn, clean, great toiletries, plenty of towels. Here's the interesting thing: I found the bed to be too firm, hollow feeling but I just saw another reviewer note that the beds were too soft. So, it's a matter of luck of the draw.
The breakfast was pretty good and the funny thing, which turned out to be spot on, was a sign in the lobby noting the breakfast experience. The earlier you eat the easier it will be to get what you would like without a huge crowd. The food was good and plentiful.
The service, overall, at the property was only so-so. However, I believe this is just the way NYC is; it's not a customer service driven town. I guess the mentality is there's more where you came from so get 'em in and out.

I would stay at this property again.

We stayed with 14 year old teens in Feb 2014, I was a little disappointed in the room size and decor, it's in need of a face lift - dark brown furniture an decor a bit dated, however it was in a great location for Times Square etc etc. We bought the New York Pass and some of the bus stops were outside the hotel. Breakfast was complimentary and OK if you are early but chaotic if not. The staff were helpful and polite, complimentary toiletries and hairdryer in bathroom, hot drinks in the lobby 24/7 again all complimentary. Hotel in walking distance to Central Park,Times Square, Broadway, Rockefella Centre and so much more. We did a walking tour of Wall Street which was fab and also the bus tours included in the New York Pass - all highly recommended. We missed Restaurant Row which was so close to the hotel on W46th bt 8th and 9th Avenue. Be sure you don't !!!!!! A fab city - love it !!!!!!!!

This Hampton Inn is located on 8th Avenue and 51st Street. It is very close to Broadway & a 2 stop subway ride to Lincoln Centre. It is a very clean hotel with comfortable rooms and gracious staff, who make you feel at home. The complimentary breakfast has everything that you could want, very tasty!! This is our second stay at The Hampton Inn and we will be back in 2015.

We stayed here for three nights last week, on a spring trip to New York City with my parents. We chose the hotel for its proximity to Broadway and the subway -- my parents wanted to see a show while in New York, and we intended to get around by subway so I wanted somewhere right on a major subway line.

The hotel is essentially what you would expect from this brand in this location. The rooms are clean, decently spacious for NYC, and comfortable. The decor is somewhat Middle America, starting to look a bit worn in some places notably the washroom. That said, the only real complaint we had was that the bed was a bit soft. I can sleep on virtually anything but it took my wife a night or two to get used to it. If you need a firm mattress you may be better off looking elsewhere. I can't comment directly on street noise -- we asked for and got rooms facing the back of the hotel -- but the windows generally seemed pretty effective at keeping outside noise out. The interior walls are not altogether soundproof -- my parents were kept up a bit by some late-night conversations in the next room. There is free wireless which is sometimes a bit temperamental but generally useable nonetheless.

The hotel's location at Eighth Avenue and 51st Street is short walk away from a number of major Broadway theatres in the upper 40s and 50s and a slightly further walk to Times Square (Broadway and 42nd). You don't necessarily want to stay right in Times Square anyway... The closest subway station is only steps away, i.e., the 50th station on the 8th Avenue Local line (C and E trains), which will take you downtown (C-E), uptown along Central Park and points north (C train), and across to the east side (E train) where you can connect with the 4-5-6 trains that run north-south on the east side, albeit at a slightly awkward transfer at 51st Street and Lexington. You can also catch the 1-2-3 trains at 50th Street and Broadway.

There are also a lot of major tourist attractions within reasonable walking distance -- just really a matter of how far you want to walk. We took a leisurely walk one evening that encompassed Times Square, Bryant Park, the New York Public Library, part of the Fifth Avenue shopping district, the Rockefeller Centre, and then part of Broadway again on way back to the hotel. It's a slightly longer walk to places like the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station and the Chrysler Building, and the southern end of Central Park.

The hotel offers a lot of freebies including free coffee and cookies and a complimentary breakfast. I am not a fan of complimentary hotel breakfasts but all things considered this one is not too bad.

All in all I would be happy to stay here again if I wanted to stay near Broadway and the price was right. It's a well-run, clean and basically comfortable hotel in a very central New York location.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write this very detailed review. We are happy to see that you were pleased with our hotel and the many "free" amenities we have to offer. Location is key when it comes to our property and it works to our benefit being so close to the theater district. We hope to see you again sometime in the near future!
