“great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

There were some problems with the elevator, but they weren't extreme enough to make this review suffer. Hotel was clean, fairly priced for the location and the rooms were ENORMOUS by NYC standards. Great staff that is very efficient and great at being invisible until needed. Perfect place to stay!

Booked one night in Time Square because the Gershwin Theater was a half a block away and Basera (baserany.com) was a block and a half away - tickets and dinner that night - and we were headed for the Museum of Natural History in the morning. Location was excellent for the theater and dining.

The upside: Again, location. Check-in/check-out was fast, no line, no delay. The desk staff was harried but attempted to be accommodating with questions and provided accurate directions. The room was clean, quiet, and well maintained. The public areas were crowded at times but maintained. Housekeeper greeted us in the hallway and was helpful. Coffee/tea/Beverages/Cookies in the lobby were fresh, stocked, and the area was well maintained.

The downside: The breakfast fare at the hotel was "okay" for a Hampton Inn but the dining area was not being cleaned and was very crowded - not pleasant. The elevators were a wait a peak times.

Suggestion - skip the complimentary breakfast unless you're in a hurry and eat at the little diner across the street, especially if you want to sit and enjoy a low noise holiday breakfast with family. We had a late bite there and the folks were very attentive and the food was good - very NYC ... in a good way. :)

I wanted to give this hotel the highest score. As it is my 4 stars is a little generous. The people are all very nice and efficient, and there is a clear sense of humor in their customer service. However, during my 4 night stay, the elevators had trouble twice, one time two of them being out so we were using the freight elevator. This shows up in other reviews and it is time to get them fixed. The breakfast crowd is more manageable than other reviews might suggest, but the food, while varied, left something to be desired. The morning there were scrambled eggs I doubt they were fresh from the dry nuggets that they became. Still things move along in that breakfast room. I will say that the location is excellent, and that housekeeping was the best I have experienced in a long while, with speedy room make ups and careful attention to details and cleanliness. No doorman, so you hail cabs yourself, which on 8th ave is rarely an problem.

Room Tip: While rooms on top floors are usually preferred, I suggest one on a lower floor until the elevator s...

Great location, excellent breakfast. Parking is expensive though at the garage next door. Overall a great experience though and really central to down town. Get a high floor or suffer the noise though!

Hotels in New York are nortoriously expensive so you have to set your expectations accordingly - decor is a little dated but that's exactly what I'd expect for this price range in NY. Having said that, The Hampton Inn is in a fantastic location; close to Times Square, Radio City, Brooklyn Diner (one of our favourites) and right opposite a subway station. We had a double room (two beds, as seems to be the way in the USA) and it was the largest room of all three hotels we've previously used in NYC. The complimentary breakfast isn't gourmet but there is a decent selection (cereal, fruit, waffles, eggs, bagels etc.) and it's constantly being refreshed so there is plenty to eat. Cookies and apples are available in the lobby during the day, as is tea/coffee/hot chocolate etc. The staff were very pleasant, especially the housekeeping staff. We'd happily stay here again.

Extremely satisfied with our stay at The Hampton Inn Times Square North.
Upon check-in on a busy holiday weekend we found out our online booking was for a different weekend by mistake! Staff made arrangements for both nights and also for better rates while they were completely booked solid.
The hotel concierge was very helpful getting Blue Man Group tickets a few hours in advance with better rates than we could find too.
The bell men were excellent holding our bags while checked out with our parking ticket good till 630pm.
Room was clean, beds very comfy, great city view and a 3 speed fan with the thermostat that made for a sound nights sleep!
All in all a wonderful hotel, over the top staff, great rooms, rates and breakfast buffet every morning! Thank you for an incredible, memorable family trip to NYC!

Just got back from a trip with my daughter on the long weekend in November. Yes the hotel is expensive but so is everything in New York. I could have saved money by booking through Expedia but I have found in the past that Expedia customers are the first to get bumped and with Hilton's great cancellation policy, I kept thinking I might find a better deal. I didn't.
I booked a King because it was cheaper than 2 queens and I noticed one of the complaints in their reviews was that people ended up in 2 Queens instead of a king. I phoned a few days before when I noted the was sold out except for a 2 queens room and offered to switch to 2 queens which they did for no added charge. The reviews I read of many hotels in New York was that there was barely room to move in the room around the bed. This had lots of room for luggage (4 large cases could have gone against the wall leaving plenty of room all around the beds plus there was a chair and ottoman and a desk. Also it was a full bathroom with a bathtub - always a bonus. The queen beds were true queens, VERY comfortable, Duvets and really nice pillows (I'm fussy about pillows). The maid service was great. I emptied my purse on the unmade bed and stained one of the sheets so I threw the duvet over it so they wouldn't feel the need to change them but I had fresh sheets when I returned. Our room on the 3rd floor overlooked 8th AVe and we could see the Wicked Theatre from it. The rooms were not silent, there were some noises from a room one night and it almost felt like you could feel the subway rumbling underneath? But nothing annoying enough to stop me from a great sleep every night.
The breakfasts were fine - filled the hole and saved money on restaurants. We went at all hours from 6 - 10AM and although it did get busier later, we always were able to find a seat and there was lots to eat. They changed the main course every day - mushroom and pepper omlette; scrambled egg and sausage, breakfast bagel sandwich; and cheese omlette and ham were the options while we were there. Plus there was porridge, waffles, hardboiled egg, fruit medley and all the continental options as well (breads, pastries, fruit). In addition there was always hot chocolate, coffee, and tea available and cookies in the afternoon (we never saw them after our first day as I suspect they were popular. We always talked to the front desk staff and they were very helpful with restaurant and direction info. The location is awesome...between 51st and 52nd on 8th at the North end of the theatre district, 2 blocks from Times Square, 3 blocks from Rockefeller, 1 block from the subway, 1 block from Starbucks. Originally we booked for the Hampton Soho but since we were doing theatre every night I didn't want to have to worry about transportation. We walked home easily at midnight every night from every play, usually via Times Square (their stores are open all night) and felt very safe.
I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Room 304 overlooked the Wicked Theatre - very exciting if you're going to the show - which you s...
