“Great Location - Outstanding Staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

My husband and I recently spent 11 nights at the Hampton Inn Times Square South during our first visit to NYC and were extremely pleased with the hotel location (central to access all parts of the city but on a relatively quiet street). In addition, all hotel staff that we encountered were extremely pleasant and helpful. Special shout-out to Calvin at the front desk who was kind enough to offer use of his workstation when I needed to print out local attraction tickets purchased online and all workstations in the business center were in use. Overall, an outstanding experience .. would highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting NYC!

The Sunday 9am Awakening of doors constantly slamming< SLAMMING< SLAMMING and then the voice Room Service< Room Service:O not to mention the paper thin walls, i felt like i was actually in the room with everybody on the 6th floor a 4am being included in their Bachelor party:( Then there was the check out:( My wife was yelled at and scolded like a little child by the front desk baggage handler for wanting to borrow the luggage cart:( He actually ripped it out of her hands from inside the elevator!! And then there is the parking garage it took 1 hour to get our car back to us. i can understand if they wee busy but at on point we were the only one standing there in the garage!!!! When and if i return to NYC it will be far away from this hotel and other people should to especially if you like to sleep in a little in the AM:)

Room Tip: For this hotel there are no tips< the walls are tissue paper thin:(

We took a quick trip into Manhattan for the evening and stayed here. The hotel is tucked away just outside the Theatre district and Times Square area, just enough off the street where you felt a little removed from the hustle and bustle (which was very nice). The front desk staff was swift, courteous and quickly checked us in even when there seemed to be a lot of people in the lobby. They have two elevators and they were so slow (my only real gripe to this whole post), it seemed like it was staff members holding up the elevator moving things on and off the elevator. In any event, after waiting 5 min for the elevator, we got to our room and it was bigger than what I thought it was going to be. Only 8 rooms per floor (which is nice) and the room was modernly furnished.

We went out to times square which was about 5-6 blocks away and we got to see all sorts of things along the way. We ate at Beer Authority and enjoyed a great filet minon and cider beer and then retired for the evening. It was strange because when I went to get under the covers it felt damp at the end of the bed. I closed my eyes and told myself its because it was washed earlier and not dried entirely... lol!

Anyway, in any event its a great place to stay,a little off the beaten path (good for noise level), I highly recommend it.

My family and I stayed at the Hampton Inn Times Square North in October 2012 for five nights. We were in New York for a wedding. It's a great hotel with good size rooms which I would say are comparable to Hampton Inn rooms at other locations - not the stereotypical postage stamp sized hotel rooms New York is notorious for. There were four of us in the room and we never felt cramped during the few short times we were actually in the room (other than sleeping). The location is perfect - just a couple of blocks off Times Square. Central Park is within walking distance and the Empire State Building can easily be reached via subway, as can the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (although it's a longer subway ride). Also visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the American Museum of Natural History, which both also can be easily reached via subway. The hotel staff was wonderful - professional and courteous, and particularly helpful in telling us New York novices how to use the subway. In fact, I did not meet a rude New Yorker anywhere during the five days I was there. The complimentary breakfast is more than ample and there is a huge variety from which to choose. The hotel is clean throughout and we always felt safe there - always a ton of people walking everywhere. We were so glad we were able to be there before Sandy hit and our hearts go out to the people of the city we grew to love during our visit. Everyone should experience New York once in their lives and everyone should stay at this hotel as part of that experience!

It's a great location - close to Times Square, but not too close. You can get away from the chaos, but close enough to walk to the Theater District, and close to all the public transportation. The only negative is their prefab breakfast is very boring and monotonous, but gets you started for a full day in the city.
Very nice touch to have cookies in the afternoon in the lobby and great having free 24 hour coffee, tea & hot chocolate in the lobby. Also nice to have 3 computer stations in the lobby area.

Room Tip: It can be noisy near the elevators. Try to get a room on the top 2 floors (10 & 11) and you will...

Just want to give a true "shout out" and offer words of appreciation to Martin Reed, the most personable and capable Rooms Division Manager at this hotel.
My 22 year old daughter and her roommate were one of the many who had to evacuate their apartments in Manhattan's "Zone A" with the onset of Hurricane Sandy.
It was virtually impossible to find a hotel room during the first couple of days of this tragic weather event, let alone, one at a reasonable price.
On behalf of my daughter and her roommate, I connected with Mr. Reed. Over the course of the 10 days following Hurricane Sandy's devastation, when my daughter and her roommate were not able to return to their apartment building in the Murray Hill area, Mr. Reed ensured that the girls had a room at the Hampton Inn (as they were on a day to day need, unable to know when exactly they would be permitted back into their apartment which sustained significant storm damage) as hotel room availability remained extremely limited during this time for a variety of reasons.
Most significantly, Mr. Reed took the time to personally take my calls, as myself and the mother of my daughter's roommate, sought to keep the cost of having them in a hotel reasonable and ensure that they would have a place to stay for as long as was necessary.
Mr. Reed showed incredible compassion toward the situation, coming to work and listening to and assisting hotel guests, while displaced from his own residence for the same extended time due to flood damage.
Mr. Reed even went so far as to call my daughter in the hotel room to get a return message to me from one of my calls, apologizing that he had misplaced my phone number. He continued to personally communicate with my daughter for the remainder of the girls stay-even allowing them the ability to check out at 6pm on the final day of their stay without any extra charge!
He understood the situation of them each working full time again since the second day after the storm, and having to await daily late afternoon email updates from their apartment building as to when it would be ready again for occupancy.
My daughter and her roommate described the Hampton Inn rooms as being very clean, comfortable and roomy; and the staff very helpful and courteous as well.
Mr. Reed could not have been more accommodating. I believe in business, most especially those in the service industry, it is the management that sets the tone for the entire staff and atmosphere for the customer's experience. Based on my experience, this hotel is top quality in every way. Great location too!

Super location near theatre district and immediately adjacent to subway stop. Many and varied restaurants nearby. Great (and free) breakfast daily. Relatively quiet rooms. Decently appointed rooms. Friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again.
