“First Visit to New York”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

My wife and I, 72 and 74 respectively, spent 3 nights at this hotel. We had reviewed the comments on many hotels in the Midtown area and this one seemed to meet our needs. We emailed the manager, Martyn Reed, and told him that we were on our first visit to NYC and that the trip was to celebrate our 53rd anniversary. We asked for a nice room and said we'd be arriving quite late;he'd emailed back to say all was arranged and he'd earmark a good room for us. Our flight was delayed some 5 hours and we didn't get to the hotel until nearly 11pm NYC time (4am body clock time) ;nevertheless, the room was waiting for us and the duty managerJonathan Tejada, and the reception lady, both greeted us enthusiastically and both, independently, congratulated us on our anniversary - clearly the manager had briefed all his staff -we were impressed. In our very nice but slightly dated room, we found a geetings card ,a bottle of wine and chocolates waiting for us!
The hotel is very well located - just a few blocks from Times Sq., Central Park, The Rockerfeller Centre, the Subway and all the 5th Ave. shops; it couldn't be much better located. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and set you up for a days sight-seeing; in addition to the usual cereals, juices, breads, bagels, muffins and pastries, tea, coffee etc., there was always a choice of hot food - porridge, waffles , eggs, omelettes , sausages and bacon plus yoghurts and fresh fruit salad and cold meats and cheeses. Again, it coudn't have been much better.
Alll the staff were very welcoming, courteous and helpful at all times of the day ; we would thoroughly recommend this hotel to all and sundry;you should not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor room facing 8th Avenue;quieter.

Decent sized hotel rooms for a NYC hotel. Friendly staff. Coffee/tea/hot cocoa available 24/7. Although the breakfast area can get very crowded quickly, the staff restocks the breakfast items in an efficient manner. The hotel is fairly quiet, especially considering it's location on busy 8th avenue. Speaking of location...it's a major draw. Spent 3 nights here and walked to everything. The furthest theatre in the district from the hotel is less than 10 blocks away. Close to everything and a friendly staff.

Room Tip: If you like to eat breakfast, get there early :-)

I have the experience of many hotels in New York city, during 40 years staying in a lot of hotels all around Manhattan ,and this Hampton really surprised me.The gentleness of all the staff was amazing, they are all ready to help you at all times.Besides that, a very good thing in Nyc,the rooms are all the same size ,large and with a huge window. The breafast is free and very good.
I`ll be back again!

Room Tip: Far from the elevators

Great location easy to get to everything. Less than a block to the subway. Easy walking distance to Time Square Rockefeller Center Fifth Avenue really anywhere. Large room for New York City. Well stocked breakfast buffet. Friendly staff, free baggage holding. The big bowl of apples in the lobby with a nice touch.

Went to NYC to celebrate our anniversary and this was the perfect location. Close enough to walk everywhere we wanted to go, penn station, radio city music hall, Times Square, Central Park... Rooms have been remodeled and were great. Breakfast was busy but fresh and plentiful. Not a single complaint!

We arrived in Manhattan a week after Superstorm Sandy, and before the nor'easter. The staff was very helpful, especially the front desk staff. The hotel was very busy - many displaced by the storm were staying there temporarily, as well as Red Cross volunteers, and NYC marathoners, waiting to leave after the canceled marathon. I was very impressed by the hotel staff, who treated everyone graciously. Though the hotel is not brand new, the rooms and breakfast facility were clean and very comfortable.
Location: great! We walked everywhere - theaters, shopping, etc. because public transportation was not yet back to normal. Disclosure: we walked 6 - 8 miles daily, so if you're tired after a couple of blocks, take a cab. The theaters we went to were both within 2 blocks of the hotel. We walked to the Time Warner complex, Rockefeller Center, Macys Herald Square, Manhattan Mall, the Garment district, August Wilson Theater (Jersey Boys), and Eugene O'Neill Theater (Book of Mormon). We went to both theaters during the nor'easter, and we were fine, though at times, the walk was treacherous since we didn't have boots.
Finally: always, always confirm your hotel reservations, even though your venue says it's not necessary. Since we arrived during the heigh of storm backlash, I'm glad I confirmed because I was reassured that we had a place to stay!
I'll definitely stay here again on my next trip.

Room Tip: Our room was chosen for us, but no complaints or tips.

This hotel was great in many ways. For starters it is in a great location, 8th avenue is very accessible. The staff were great, the food was great, the rooms were very comfortable. They have amazing views of the city if you can get a higher flood. The only thing that bugged me is that they claim this hotel is in Times Square. Its not, its in Hells Kitchen. I think they claim its in Times Square so they can get more money out of people.
