“family break in new york”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

we arrived at the hotel after a short flight from Toronto. The reception staff were very helpful and our room was ready straight away it was a the top floor but it wasn't a problem because the lift open right outside our door. The room was a nice size with a king size bed and sofa bed for our son there was bath robes, hairdryer, iron and safe in the cupboard. also a small kitchen area with a micro wave coffee machine and fridge.
The bathroom was lovely also.
Breakfast was a buffet which was alright! the staff in the breakfast showed you to your table and poured you your coffee and you were expected to pay 2 dollars a head for that which i thought was steep but the u s a is big on their tipping so you have to do it!
The location was brilliant 5minutes walk from time square and central park.
overall we had a great holiday and the blakey was a nice place to stay

Room Tip: all good higher floors will have less noise from traffic

This place is in a wonderful location close to Central Park, the subway, shopping and the theaters.
We had a small suite with King bed in one room and a large sofa bed it the other. The bathroom was large with granite counters and a large shower. Everything was very clean. The elevators are small, which reminded me very much of Europe. All of the staff were very helpful and nice. The continental breakfast was very nice except for the fact that there was no yogurt. I would definitely stay here again.

It was very noisy in our room at the front, no better at the rear of the hotel. Rooms are a good size, had two doubles and a sofa bed, big bath with shower over, kitchen. Wifi described as superfast but it was most definitely very slow. No cable option. Internet no better in another room we were offered (we checked with laptop before upheaval of moving). . On the last night we asked for fresh milk instead of UHT portions provided as we had used all the carton we had bought and they wanted to charge 13 dollars for a glass of milk. We did get some in the end after talking to the manager but even the much maligned English hotels would have provided this with no charge! The Blakely isn't cheap and on the face of it should have been well worth the money as the breakfast was included - bread and cakes (big charges for eggs or porridge). Not as good as it thinks it is! Wouldn't recommend.

Room Tip: Take ear plugs if you can tolerate them as it's very noisy.

We stayed 4 nights at the end of March. From the minute we arrived to the time we checked out, everything went smoothly. We were in a one bedroom suite, which consisted of a bedrooms with two large beds and a living room with a single bed. Both areas has TV's and DVD players, which worked out nicely. My kids watched a movie they brought with them and we watched our own program in the bedroom. There was a desk and chair and a comfortable chair with ottoman in the bedroom as well. The kitchenette area was definitely a plus. I knew they had Keurig coffeemakers, so I brought some hot chocolate for my children. The hotel supplied complimentary coffee, decaf and tea for the Keurig, which was replaced daily. The mini fridge/freezer came in handy as did the microwave. We called down three different times during our stay for ice and towels and within minutes, they were at our door!

I found no problems with the free internet and the hotel has a computer in the lobby where you can print out boarding passes, etc. I even used it to print out some tickets to Madame Tussaud's. The elevator speed had been vastly improved and the complimentary continental breakfast was great. It consisted of coffee/tea, cereals, breads, muffins and fresh fruit. My kids were even satisfied!

Location couldn't be better. Less than one block from the subway station for N,R,Q trains. We used the system a lot to get around everywhere. Also the hotel is within a few blocks of Times Square, Broadway and around the corner from Central Park. Trust me when I say you do not want to stay right in the Time Square area, unless you like noise and endless people in front of your hotel!

When we checked out and had an evening flight, the bellman held our bags until our car came. All in all a fantastic hotel and experience!

Really an amazing bargain for under $300 per night in a great midtown location. We had two one bedroom suites. Each includes a king size bed, day bed, tiny kitchenette and bath. The amenities are good for a hotel at this price point. Service was personal and friendly with the bellman doubling as concierges and very helpful and warm. The elevators are cramped and old but function fine. There are about 8 rooms per floor. The included breakfast is the major weak point. It's basically stale pastries, yogurt a couple of fruit selections and some bagels. The coffee was awful. Skip breakfast and go down the street to a diner! We normally stay at much higher end hotels so I am unusually critical and tough but this hotel is a great deal for someone who is out and about in New York sightseeing, in for theater etc.

This hotel really ticks all the boxes...it is in a great location (just 10 mins walk to Times Square) and is very comfortable. From the moment we wlaked in we could smell fresh lillies in the lobby and the staff checked us in very efficiently. They were so helpful with everything from checking our theatre tickets to suggesting places to eat. the bed in the room was so comfortable..we struggled getting up in the mornings! The room has everything you need from a fridge/microwave and tea/coffee making facilities. The toilietries in the bathroom were really nice and there was always fresh towels.
Breakfast was in the restaurant next door and was more than adequate....plenty of cereals/muffins and fresh fruit plus juices and coffee.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be near the attractions but doesn't want tp pay a small fortune.

Room Tip: We were on the 15th floor so didn't hear much from the road.

We stayed at The Blakely for two nights in late February, and couldn't have been happier with this boutique hotel. Walking through the street door, it felt like we were in a classy hotel in Europe, with all the dark wood panelling and cosy library seating area. Check-in was friendly, with a very welcoming reception staff. Parking our car at the next door parkade was easily done, and the $35 per 24 hour period (special price for hotel guests) is a bargain for Manhattan. The room was furnished with topend amenities. The bed was extremely comfortable, the marble bathroom, rainfall shower, toiletries and bath robes were all very classy. We also enjoyed having the fridge and Keurig coffee maker (there was also a microwave, but we didn't use it). The buffet breakfast at the Abboccato restaurant adjoining the lobby was perfect for us. The coffee was terrific, fresh juices, muffins, danishes, and a wonderful dark pumpkin (I think) loaf were all great. There were also cereals, yogurt (with honey available) and several other options. We weren't planning on a meal in the restaurant, but we did end up there on our second night with two hours before we had to leave for Lincoln Center. We sat at the bar, and had wine by the glass, and tried several of the small dishes available at happy hour. Everything we tried was a success, and it was a perfect amount of food before a theater evening. The location is very central, and one day we spent several hours at the MOMA, and took the combination ticket which included a visit to the Top of the Rock, which we had never done before. It was a crystal clear (but chilly!) day, and the views were amazing. All in all, a memorable trip.
