“Great room, great location, a real find.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

This was our first stay at the Blakeley (we are fans of the Michelangelo but the rates were too high). We booked a 1-bedroom suite that was on the 11th floor facing 55th Street. Although there is construction at City Center across the street, the room was quiet and we were not bothered by it at all. The suite was roomy, comfortable, and meticulously clean with great bedding. The mini-kitchen included a fridge, microwave, plates, glasses and utensils. We also appreciated the included breakfast (bagels, toast, English muffins, fruit, yogurt, cereal, etc.) in the tiny restaurant downstairs. The gym has only 2 treadmills, but we were the only 2 people in there each morning. Yes, the elevators are slow and the front desk staff could be friendlier and more helpful, but these are minor inconveniences. This place is a find; it's not a bargain but worth every dollar. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Higher floors likely quieter, particularly facing 55th Street.

The Blakely is a boutique hotel with very good size rooms, excellent sevice and very well located. A bit noisy due to the construction across the street. Easy subway access and walking distance to many attracions midtown.

Room Tip: Pick a higher floor

I spent two weeks during a blazing hot July in New York. I needed to be in mid-town but wanted to stay away from the chains and busy tourist hotels. The Blakely was perfect. Nestled between 6th and 7th on 55th Street, this hotel feels intimate and not very much like New York. In fact, many of the guests seemed to be other than American. I wouldn't call The Blakely boutique because that conjures an image of trendy. The Blakely is far from that. It is comfy and has a old European feel. The lobby is tiny, the elevators miniscule but there is nothing else small about this place. Because I was there for an extended time, I booked a one-bedroom suite which included loads of closet space, a beautifully renovated bath with large walk-in shower, a living room with daybed (utilized by friends from time-to-time and reported to be quite comfy) and a small kitchen area with microwave, mini-fridge (have them remove the mini-bar offerings), sink, coffeemaker and placesettings for two. Everything impeccably clean. Made myself fruit and yogurt every morning (although breakfast was included in the rate, I didn't try it) and probably cost less than the tip I would have had to leave in the restaurant downstairs. Also healthier. Nice little fitness center with a couple of treadmills, bike, elliptical and free-weights - open 24 hours. Nothing fancy but worked for me. The bedding was perfect; never had a problem with noise or light. The A/C did a magnificent job during those 95+ degree days. The desk and lobby staff were accommodating and friendly. Everything you need is nearby. If you do want to do some marketing to stock the fridge, skip the Whole Foods at Columbus Circle and go to Morton Williams on 57th St. The Blakely is not a super-deluxe hotel and doesn't pretend to be but it is an terrific value. Loved it.

Room Tip: High floor are quiet if you're not in a hurry as there are two elevators and they aren't ver...

I had not stayed at the Blakley in a few years.I usually stay more downtown. It was just as I remembered. Good value for the neighborhood. Great place to stay if you have never been to the city. Close enough to most attractions you could walk. Easy subway access. The rooms are clean. The front desk is very helpful. This is a great boutique hotel.

Room Tip: They were working on the building across the street. So I would say the back side of the hotel is qu...

We found the Blakely to be a very good choice in NYC. It is very conveniently located (about 3 blocks form the MoMA) and it is no more than 10 dollars to get to the farthest attractions in town. A stroll in Central Park is always a nice end to a busy day and it is only a few blocks away. The continental breakfast is fresh and fine. Staff is most helpful and the room we had included a microwave and fridge as well as a small kitchen sink and minimal dishes. You can save a lot by eating-in.
Enjoy the city!

Room Tip: Pick a room that has a microwave, so convenient!

Around the corner from the Carnegie Deli, David Letterman Show, Central Park the location can't be beat. Rooms are comfortable, beds excellent and fabulous shower. Price is right, (ok continental breakfast included), and service reasonable. Elevators for us were no problem and we were on the 10th floor. Note: there is major construction on 55th.right across the street and it begins VERY EARLY. Suggest a room not overlooking 55th.
