“Location is great but wary of "the old switcheroo"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

The Edison is an older hotel but don't hold that against them. There are 4 elevators and even during peak usage times the wait was minimal.
There is an attached cafe' (Cafe Edison) that's a typical NYC eatery. No complaints there.
The location is literally, a baseball throw from Times Square and the theaters are all within a short walk (go up 8th to avoid the gauntlet of tour bus ticket peddlers, guys handing out free CD, etc) as is just about anywhere on Restaurant Row.
Here's the rub. The room we reserved was a "Signature" (large) room on on upper floor. The room they put us in was a "Classic" (small) on the 3rd floor right over the main entrance. This wouldn't have been a problem *IF* the lady at the reception desk had said so from the beginning and explained that the bill would be adjusted accordingly. She did not, and it took a manager to approve the $850 refund (after being confronted about the switch).
All that said, apart from being small (for more than 2 people it would have been way too small but for 2 it was fine), it still wasn't a bad room. One of the two windows actually opened more than a few inches (don't see that in NYC hotels very often!) and the traffic noise was barely noticeable. A huge plus were the little markets along the street and the Duane Reed on 8th. Pretty much anything you might have needed was covered.

Room Tip: Lower rooms on the street side don't seem to have a problem with traffic/construction noise

Dear Robert B.,
Thank you for sharing your comments. We are sorry to hear that your stay was less than perfect. We pride ourselves on our level of service, which many reviewers can attest to. Regarding the issue with the room charges, we are glad that one of our Front Desk managers was able to follow-up to ensure the issue had been sorted out. Without your reservation details it is almost impossible to decipher what happened. You are welcome to email our Guest Relations department who can investigate further if you wish.

Stayed here a few times while in NYC. Location is very handy right off Times Square. Rooms were small enough but good clean and a good standard. Price to stay here is reasonable for the location I recommend it.

We LOVED the Edison. We heard great things about the Edison, and they far surpassed even that! One destination while we were in NYC was to see the Lion King. Since it was a block away, it was a fantastic choice so we could just walk there! We stayed in the signature Queen room. It was incredibly comfortable, clean, and quaint. We were busy throughout the day, but it was so nice to come back to such a nice room. As soon as our heads hit the pillow, we both knocked out. My coffee addiction was satisfied with the Keurig coffee maker in the room. That was a great touch! Absolutely every staff we ran into was polite and extremely helpful. From the front desk, to the bell hop, and the house cleaning staff were very kind in ensuring our stay was top notch. We utilized the concierge to find some great eats around the hotel, and even the Bell Men gave a delicious recommendation for breakfast. Thanks everyone!

I would highly recommend staying at the Hotel Edison. Top notch stay. Top notch location. Top notch service. I will stay here next visit.

Room Tip: We loved the signature rooms. Definitely worth it.

We stayed at the Edison last weekend. It's location is perfect, half a block from Time Square and all the fun. The hotel is clean and nice and a great bang for your bucks. I would highly recommend it.

Very nice hotel. Friendly staff. The location was perfect, just around the corner from Times Square! Only downside was there is no free wifi. The beds are so comfortable. Shower did go to hot at times but overall a lovely place to stay.

Fantastic Location. we requested a mini frig. it was delivered promptly. Security was very good.
Bed was like a concrete slab. not used to that.
trash left in our room from the previous guest.
check-in was fast and painless. a/c unit was noisey.
1 pillow per person. no wash clothes. not used to that. no pressure balancing valve to avoid hot/cold surges.
But, it is NYC. I have been in the accommodations business for 16 years. I have learned, there are few really "must haves" so the guest will return. will research other lodging next time.

Just got back from a 4 night stay at the Edison hotel
Check in was quick and easy we were given a room on the 3rd floor even after emailing ahead weeks ago for a high floor ! We were then given a room on the 8th floor at the front of the hotel nice room with tv on wall and a wet room no bath (we could have done with a soak each night )
Non of the rooms have a kettle so deli 2 doors away does a good trade ,the hotel is always busy as is all of New York ! I was a good base for a hectic stay you could still here traffic noise on the 8 th floor though
Room was clean and tidy and towels fresh
We enjoyed are short stay in New York

Room Tip: Noise at the front of the hotel
