“Clean basic but good location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013 via mobile

After arriving at the Edison in New York we were given our room key and told what floor to go to upon arriving in the room I decided immediately there was no way I'm staying in this room it was dark dreary very dated and was right next to a generator that was really loud the view was awful and room was tiny cramped and generally unpleasant, I went to reception and complained that for the money I was not prepared to accept that room we were them offered an alternative on the 35th floor which was considerably larger lighter and cleaner, it was basic but clean which is ok as you only use it as a base, the rooms need updating and bathrooms are very used and need doing up, the hotel is an Art Deco style hotel and is very beautiful but tired, for the money I have stayed in better in New York, but the location of this hotel is perfect for all major sights. I probably wouldn't stay here again but it was clean basic and ok that is all I can say really. Staff were pleasant and did move us without much fuss I wouldn't normally complain but the first room was so unpleasant i wasn't going to spend five nights in the poky box room we were offered.

When we got there we were shown to our rooms to find it was very small and noisy as it was on a low floor right in the center of time square, however when we complained we were upgraded to a much better, spacious clean room which was great and modern! The location of this hotel was great as its on time square however if your looking for a quite area to stay in i wouldnt stay here. The service at the hotel was fab and the staff were all friendly and went out of their way to move our rooms, also they booked taxis and buses for us so we didnt need to worry about that. You dont need to worry about finding somewhere to eat because theres so much choice on time square, i would highly recomend the olive garden! I would also recomend going to the top of the rock its much better than going to the top of the empire stats and a lot cheaper, the view is wicked. Madame tusaudes and ripleys museum are also a must. Overall a great location and hotel, if i ever went back to new york i would stay here:)

I stayed at the Edison with my daughter in January 2013. It was very conveniently located as we were going to a play at the theatre that is located right at the hotel's rear entrance. It was a last minute booking - we wouldn't usually choose to stay near Times Square because it is so touristy but most hotels in NYC were full.
The staff were not particularly friendly, check-in was not very welcoming, the concierge were not interested. Our room was basic but comfortable.
The woman in the room next to ours obviously thought she should have been on the stage as she belted out show tunes at the top of her lungs until a neighbouring guest knocked on her door, asked her to be quiet and go outside if she wanted to continue singing. We found this quite entertaining.
We left our bags at the hotel the next day for a couple of hours and were charged $1 per item. In hindsight, we should have checked out later and left our bags in our room.
In summary, the Edison did the job but I'd only stay there again if there was not much else available.

Disappointed- shower was too hot or too cold no regulation and was reported three times. Maintenace people did come to the room but it wasnt fixed properly. The hotel could not change our room as they were fully booked on our first two nights leaving us with a a choice of a freezing cold shower or scalding hot. On the third night an alternative room was offered to us. Our room was old fashioned. Pity because the location is very good.

This hotel reminds me of the Best Western Presidential Hotel (also in Times Square) sans the remodeling & Starwood Property-leaning vibe. Check-in was a breeze, and the hotel served its purpose: cheap & easy stay.

Yes, this is an older hotel. However, it is very charming and it is 1/2 block from Times Square. The rooms are small (like most of NYC), but staff was friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

The Edison Hotel in Times Square, New York is an older "basic hotel", however, don't under estimate it simply because it it not a new high-rise hotel! With an awesome location, only 1 block to the middle of Times Square, this hotel is a great place to stay if you are on your first trip to the big city. From the hotel you are only 1.5 miles walking distance to Dylan's Candy store and Bloomingdale's. 1 mile from FAO Schwarz Toy Store, the Apple store and Central Park. You are also only a few blocks from NBS/Rockefeller Plaza & Radio City Studios.

The hotel is in the process of updating many of their rooms, however, please note that if you stay in one of the older rooms, don't expect luxury. These rooms are clean and have all the basic comforts a traveler may need, however, the windows are not sound proof so there is a lot of road noise, they have older heating/cooling units, and the bathrooms are fairly small. But if you are in the city to explore the city and not hang out in your room, then the Edison is a great place to stay with reasonable city rates. ENJOY!

Room Tip: Request one of the newly renovated rooms if you want more of the "comforts" of a finer hot...
