“Great location without all the ammenties”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

The Edison, a very short walk (half block) from Times Square, is a great location and very reasonable. The hotel staff is very friendly and efficient. The rooms are very small with limited outlets and you must pay for wi-fi. Who has time for wi-fi in NYC! The bathrooms do not have sufficient towel racks, etc. BUT, for the price, you can't beat it in this great location. WE have stayed here twice and will again due to the price. There is also fantastic deli/restaurant next door to the hotel. We started our day with a delicious, healthy breakfast each morning. Best of all, it is also very reasonable as well. Highly recommend The Edison if you are traveling on a budget but want a great location, clean facility, with excellent service.

Stayed for 4 nights between Xmas and NY's. Wanted a suite because of kids and the Edison delivered. Their 'signature suites' were newly renovated and spacious for NewYork hotel. Very modern and chic, especially bathroom. Came with fridge, pull out couch, king size bed, 2 fancy closets, specialty coffee, etc. Also loved the black-out blinds so got good night sleep. Weight room also great. The mattress was a little hard for my taste, but pillows were so full and fluffy. Staff very helpful and lobby comfortable. Great diner-try the cream of turkey soup and blueberry pancakes. Location couldn't b better. Have no reservation in recommending this hotel, especially the signature suites.

Room Tip: Try the signature suites...newly renovated and chic, very clean and modern bathroom.

Very disappointed with shower, so difficult to control the water temperature. The toilet was leaking. Overall appearance of "our" room was so old fashion, outdated and ugly looking. My family and I barely slept because of the (traffic noise) very loud. OMG! Seems like drivers enjoy honking and constant police sirens made sleeping impossible. The only time we were able to sleep are between the hours of 2:30 to 5AM. Staff very nice but the hotel and experience was miserable. I do not recommend this hotel for R&R.

I stayed 3 nights mid December for business trip, small room, inside on 6th floor, no noise problem. Fit my needs. Large hotel, lots of tourists of course, being so close to Times Square and theaters. The bar and cafe in the hotel are OK, but there's better bars down the street toward 8th Ave. And for breakfast try the Galaxy at 46th and 9th.

I was a bit hesitant booking The Edison. I read mixed reviews on this site and just wasn't sure. It was the little things for me, mostly: Shower temperature and old-school feel of the hotel. But I wasn't to worry at all. The Edison exceeded what I wanted and expected wholly. It is an older hotel, but one need not feel apprehensive about quality. The room was clean (there was no musky smell, as some reviewers pointed at) and as for water control in the shower, what I did was just fiddle with the hot and cold handles to find a nice balance before I stepped in the shower and was fine. Some reviewers have made this a contentious issue, citing old and rusty pipes, but I didn't get that. My showers were very comfortable with warm water and great water pressure. I had a standard room on the 5th floor around the corner from the elevators. Noise from the lift shafts were a non-issue. Again, people have pointed out this as an inconvienance- Not for me. Maybe it was the position of the room- it was a corner and not facing the lifts, so maybe others would say otherwise. The room itself was plenty fine for myself. It was a small room, Queen bed, closet washroom, facing 46th street, a car-park just outside the window, street noise 24/7... and I had no qualms. I was solo but the room would have sufficed for two people- maybe a bit crampted for two people but fine. What I hate is people complaning about city noise all day and night in Times Square. What do these people expect?? You don't want city noise, go somewhere else. Or buy earplugs. Often I would get back to the hotel around 1-2am and put the television on a sleep timer only to shut the tv off so I could fall asleep to the ambiant city sounds. And I loved it. I slept very well. But that's me. The service was excellent. I was a eight hours for checkin, expecting to be turned away. Nope. They welcomed me with open arms. They answered all my questions with a smile. I stayed here four days and it was a pleasure. I would definetly return. Cheers!

The location of the Edison is as central as you could get. Two minutues walk from Times Square and Theatres.
The room was large and beds comfy. Bathroom a little on the small side and very warm. We were on the 9th floor and found traffic noise to be no problem. The only downside for us was lack of mirrors and poor lighting, always seemed to be a bit gloomy in the room. Saying that didnt spend a long time in room.
Had breakfast in the Edison Cafe found it to be very reasonable, also, had a meal in hotel restaurant one evening, very good.
We went to 3 broadway shows while we were there, buying tickets each time from the ticket booth in times square, i really recommend this, hardly any queues, half price tickets and every show only a few rows from the front of stage. Very impressed. Must recommend you go to see The Christmas Show at Radio City. Excellent!
Got a New York Pass before we went, if visiting a lot of attractions , its a must, well worth it, plus skip the queues.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to New York!

Everyone who works in the hotel deserves an A+ for excellent service, from door man to front desk. Good security. Extra nice that the hotel is connected to a great restaurant but be advised it is a cash only place and you can't charge to your room. No coffee makers in the room, and beds (twins) were very hard and uncomfortable. Same with the bedding. Comfortors were very old style -scratchy, linens were just ok. But, this hotel, for us, was a bargain. One of our rooms was directly behind the elevators and most of the time there was very little elevator noise. Bathroom was basic, no counter space for doing make-up. Also, you have to pay for your own internet use, which was quite pricey for a 5 day stay. There are no free hot-spots, but you can use the hotel computer to print boarding passes for free. Our room had no "sitting" chair, but a desk chair. The other room did have a small guest chair but no real bureau to speak of. Our room had a nice big bureau of drawers with the TV on it. The art deco lobby was beautiful, and is a waiting place for meet-ups or check out time. I'd go back and stay at the Edison AFTER they upgrade their matresses and bedding/linens. Room temp was easy to regulate and fresh air option was very helpful. Our rooms also had nice large closests.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 12th floor and there was very little noise in either room. We had 2 rooms, one on...
