We were told that the location of this hotel was good - but we didnt realise how good. You are literally 2 minutes from Times Square - but we didnt notice any noise from our room. Dont worry about any negative reviews - we had a great time. The hotel is all Art Deco and feels like 'Old New York'. The room was on the small side but we were out by 9am and home late so it didnt matter atall.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly refurbished one - we did.

We read many reviews about the Edison before we booked our Thanksgiving trip. The most consistent comment was small rooms and since we were going to be there almost a week, we went smart and booked a suite. The nite we arrived it was late and pouring rain, the front desk staff was wonderfully pleased and most helpful. Our room was VERY pleasant AND overlooked the parade route! Throughout our stay the hotel and staff lived up to every expectation...with one exception, the concierge! Though this was our first time to NYC, for the most part there is endless information on what to do and how to do it. The one time we needed assistance, we went to the concierge, big mistake, what a jerk. No matter, we decided we'd make it without him and went on. Overall, GREAT HOTEL! Thank you Edison!

We are most appreciative of your comments and are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for the favorable comments regarding the rooms, location and front desk staff.
It is through feedback such as yours that we are able to see various aspects of the property from the guest's viewpoint. I will certainly pass your comments along to the manager of the concierge desk, so that we can improve our service. Thank you again.

We stayed in the first week of January and like others were apprehensive due to comments from previous guests. A couple of days before our arrival I emailed asking for a newly renovated room and when we checked in the receptionist noted my request.
The room was a perfect size, clean and tidy and had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The staff were always welcoming and very polite. The only criticism I would make is the use of the concierge. We bought tickets for a show but would have got much better rates if we had gone to Times Square where you can pick up cheaper tickets from TKTS or from ticket sales companies who can get you the tickets you want.
Fantastic location, 50 metres from Times Square and you can walk to Lower and Upper Manhattan easily. Would use this Hotel next time we visit.

Travelled to New York in December 2011 and was slightly worried reading the reviews on here....load of rubbish! we had a great stay, staff were friendly and helpful at all times apart from the manager in Sofias who I have to say was extremely rude to us. However, that certainly didnt spoil our stay! rooms were adequate and comfortable and views were great. the hotel is just minutes away, no, make that seconds away from Times Square so excellent location. The bar is lively and the cafe does some lovely food and deliver tea and coffee to your room if requested.

All in all it was a great stay, great hotel and great staff! We will definately return to the Edison.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comment about your recent experience at The Hotel Edison. We are always delighted to see new faces and hear about new experiences. The Edison has always been a home away from home to every guest . We would love to see you again, at your New York home. Though Sofia's restaurant is independently owned, we will bring this to their attention and apologize on their behalf.

If you are looking for a nice place to sleep when you are in new york, this is the place to stay. Its very inexpensive and close to everything. It is an older hotel so you can hear all the pipes but its not too bad.

Times square is one block away. There is a nice little bar on the bottom that is fun too.

I bought this on Sky Auction for three couples - we stayed 4 nights - October 1 - 5, 2011
Was very happy with the price, but was apprehensive because of negative reviews - Considering the price of less than 150 per night including taxes! and in Times Square! - it was a steal! Sure the hotel was dated, but the rooms were great - much larger than I was lead to believe, because of the negative reviews. Would definitely stay here again - its just around the corner from the Marriot Marquis, and only one half block off Broadway

Room Tip: Ak for room facing 47th Street
