“Great quiet location, friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Our sole purpose of our trip to NYC was the US Open in Flushings. We love to stay at Kimpton properties if they are in our city of travel. We stayed at 70 Park because of it's close location to Grand Central Terminal(wanted to take the 7 train to the tennis tournament). 70 Park was the perfect location for us! Walking back late (2:00 am) from Grand Central to 70 Park we never felt unsafe.

My husband and I stayed in a queen deluxe room on the 15th floor. Our room was perfect for the 2 of us. We could hear some traffic noise starting around 6:00 a.m. but we are in NYC! We never had to wait long for the elevators either.

The bartender in the adjacent bar(wish I could remember his name) was great! During our visit there was no food service but they offers jars of popcorn, nuts, trail mix, etc which was a nice touch while having a drink.

Everyone at 70 Park was so helpful and friendly. It is easy to hail a cab too! We have stayed at large hotels in NYC and the wait for a cab is crazy!

For our trip 70 Park was the perfect location! Would definitely stay here again especially if we were planning on taking the subway a lot.

We loved our stay at this fabulously customer friendly hotel. From the happy hour each evening to the ambiance of the room we felt reinvigorated after long days of sightseeing. The staff was very accomodating and helpful in every way. We plan to visit again soon.

Very nice modern and clean hotel, with a very friendly staff and concierge. Close by to everything and only a minute walk to grand central station. There was a free wine reception every evening in the very delicate lobby. This hotel is perfect when staying in New York for shopping and sightseeing.

Most travelers have heard it: "Hey, how much time do you spend in your room anyway?" The idea seems to be that you're only going to sleep there so having a small or basic room (or cruise ship cabin) isn't a big deal. Well, 70 Park is your chance to test that out.

On the plus side the bed was extremely comfortable, both the HVAC and shower were excellent, the room was clean, attractive, and well maintained, wireless service very good, and the hotel staff friendly and helpful. Even the coffee in the lobby was good.

On the other hand, the room was among the smallest and darkest we've had in Manhattan and the bathroom, well, tiny. Our "queen deluxe" room had neither bedside night tables (probably because there wouldn't have been room for even small ones) nor reading lights over or near the bed. The only seating was a desk chair, so you or your companion has to sit or lie on the bed when not sleeping, or when watching the (flat panel but not HD) television.

All in all the 70 Park seemed to us like a reasonable choice for a couple if all you want from your hotel is a good night's sleep and hot shower in the morning. If you also need a place to recharge, read, watch a movie, or even sit comfortably for a bit during the day, you might find the 70 Park's queen deluxe room close quarters indeed.

70 Park Avenue is a small yet lovely and reasonably priced boutique hotel on Park Ave conveniently located a couple of blocks from Grand Central Station and walking distance to Penn Station. Complimentary brewed coffee is available every morning in the lobby as well as many newspapers. The concierge was very helpful for acquiring tickets or directions. It was very hot in the city so we appreciated the ice cold lemon or fruited water available in the cozy yet comfortable lobby with lots of seating arrangements for intimate conversation. After a day of walking and sightseeing a welcome respite is available at 5:00 every afternoon when complimentary wine is served in the lobby, The lovely rooms and the convenience of the hotel close to many neighborhood restaurants make this NY hotel one we would return to again!

70 Park Avenue has some good points and some not so good points. We stayed there for three nights in August as part of a two week trip to New York and California. The hotel is on Park Avenue which is mainly residential and is relatively quiet traffic wise as Grand Central station interrupts the continuity of this avenue. Arriving on Saturday afternoon I was initially disappointed on entering the hotel. The lobby was very busy and the very small reception desk was located at the back of the lobby, it all felt a bit cramped and ill thought out. Staff were wearing polo shirts which gave off a very casual feel. I was not feeling the Park Avenue ‘Boutique Hotel’ vibe which the hotels website promotes.

We took the lift to our room which was pretty much as shown on the website and traveller photo’s on Trip advisor. But what these photos don’t show is the slight tiredness of the décor, fixtures and fittings. It is a little worn around the edges; lobby, lifts, hallways and rooms, which lets it down a bit. The bedroom was average size but the bathroom was really quite small and had no extractor fan.

On the plus side, the location is fantastic with the main mid-town sites and many restaurants in easy walking distance. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The concierge was knowledgeable and helpful and they arranged our transfer to the airport so we could enjoy our time in New York. Our friends, who we were travelling with us, had a suit case misplaced by the airline. The hotel staff were very helpful in trying to retrieve it before we left for the next stage of our trip. They helped with phone calls and advice on who we might call, they even made enquiries on our behalf. The hotel does have a bar attached but we only went in once. Drinks were quite expensive and there weren’t many people in. It is called the Silver leaf tavern which tries to be a neighbourhood bar as it has an entrance on the street as well as from the lobby but doesn’t seem to work as a local bar or as a hotel bar. The hotel has a wine hour from 5 pm to 6pm in the lobby. This was well attended and had plenty of wine on offer and soft drinks.
If you can get it at a good price it is a good place close to stay for mid-town attractions but you may be disappointed by the ‘boutique’ label.

The hotel we've been with for the past 35 years on our annual pilgrimage to NYC for the US Open is being converted to condos. Thank goodness we found our new favorite hotel at 70 Park Avenue. There are scores of compliments we could pay this wonderful Kimpton boutique hotel, but here are some of them in no particular order:

1. They're not crazy expensive.
2. They're in a safe area with a Starbucks, casual restaurants, and bodegas within a 2-minute walk.
3. Grand Central Station is a 4-minute walk.
4. They're immaculately clean.
5. The decor is modern and upscale.
6. The staff is warm, helpful, friendly and competent. Any reasonable request (and even some unreasonable ones) are met with a smile and a "can do" attitude. From the door man to the bellman to the front desk to housekeeping to the engineer, everybody here works as hard as they can to make you happy.
7. The in-room hair blowdryers are topnotch (I'm very particular about my blowdryers).
8. The bedding is exquisite, like sleeping on a cloud.
9. There is free in-room WiFi if you join Kimpton's InTouch Awards Program (which is also free).
10. They have a well-equipped work-out room.
11. Free coffee and a variety of newspapers are provided in the lobby every morning.
12. Every evening between 5p - 6p, they host a free wine party in the lobby, offering both reds and whites (the choices change daily). You can even go back for seconds.
13. There is an extremely helpful, knowledgeable concierge.
14. They have small in-room refrigerators that are available upon request free of charge.

Our family had four King Deluxe rooms at 70 Park Avenue for five days, with two toddlers in tow. The rooms were somewhat small with not a lot of closet/drawer space, but this is NYC after all, and it was certainly adequate. There was also a little street noise but, again, this is NYC. There is no room service which might be important to some guests -- we never use room service so we couldn't care less. They don't have roll-away beds but they do have cribs/pack-n-plays for tiny ones. We brought sleeping mats and sleeping bags for our toddlers.

What we do care about is the kindness and professionalism of every member of the staff, and the superior upkeep of this property. Efrain, Julio, Maria, Leidy, just to name a few, are examples of what a hotel should offer. The diversity in staff means they can speak to nearly anyone in their mother tongue, a boon to foreign travelers (of which there were many during our stay -- I got to practice my French, Spanish and German during the wine parties).

There are so many good things to say about 70 Park Avenue that certainly I've overlooked a number of them. We can't wait to return.
