“60 Thompson”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

Stayed for 10 days at 60 Thompson. It is an ideal location in downtown NYC and for us far better than staying in Midtown. Soho is far more peaceful and with the choice of restaurants and bars ideal place to end a busy day in NY with just a short walk back to the Hotel. The rooftop bar was sensational and worth it alone! We couldn't fault the staff or the room in any way and were suprised it was quite roomy by NY standards. Great service all round. They just started renovations at the bar on the 2nd floor which would have been horrendous for any guests staying on but fortunately we were leaving that day. Once done it should be a great upgrade to what is already a great hotel. Ate at KittiChai Restaurant (ground level) and the meal and space were divine. If you can get a good rate on line this place is well worth the stay!

Room Tip: we had a room at the back of the Hotel which was quiet. Have heard front of building can be noisy.

I have just come back from a weeks stay at 60 thompson. The hotel is fab, the guys on the door are really helpful and friendly, the housekeeping were some of the friendliest we'd ever come across and the room was a great size. The brownies on turndown are amazing and a great touch. The hotel is in soho, which has a really village feeling about it, and is surrounded by some great restaurants and bars (can highly recommmed Balthazars down the road for dinner). There are numerous metros stations near by to get around NYC.
We were on the 9th floor and didnt hear the bar once. The roof bar is nice but not busy however the staff there can vary from really friendly to disappointed that they have to serve you!!
Our only complaint was that in the middle of a heatwave the aircon in the hotel room was little more than a faint wind and really didnt cool the room down at all! but apart from that our stay was great, i would definitely recommend the hotel and would return!

Dear Jane 83_11,

We appreciate you expressing your thoughts on Tripadvisor and, although you’re overall experience was positive, your overall stay was diminished by the lack of air conditioning.

I sincerely apologize.

I am happy to read how the staff and location was a positive influence on your stay and, do hope we see you again.

I had some initiissei ferns when I checked into 60 Thompson. I had read a number of reviews on Trip Advisor about the rooms being a bit dated and in need of renovation, and the very noisy bar in the lobby, and the roof deck occasionally being closed for private parties, so I was a bit dubious. On the other hand, I got a great rate through Jettsetter.com, and I wanted to be in Soho, so I put my concerns aside and made the booking. Check in was all good, but I did get a bit concerned and they showed me to my room, and it reeked of cigarette smoke, although it was supposed to be a non-smoking room. Also, the room is not in great shape, there were scratch marks on much of the furniture, and the level of wear and tear was not great. I understand they are either in process of renovating or will be quite soon. I tried to get them to switch me to a different room on a higher floor, but none were available, and I do understand some of the rooms have been partially renovated and have nice hardwood floors, where mine had wall to wall carpet. In any event, the room itself was ok, but not great, but I was paying a low rate, so I can't really complain. I would also point out that while it doesn't bother me, this really is a hotel focussed on people who are on holiday or want to party. There is no business center, and the lobby bar does go off until 2:30 in the morning. I had a late dinner in their one night, and the music was blaring, and the crowd was pretty loud and loose. All good, as long as you aren't looking for a serene sober environment. I also suggest if you go, try to avoid a low floor, unless you are planning to be in the bar until 2:30, because your room will probably be pretty noisy. The roof top bar is better for chilling out, with nice views of midtown, lounge music and a much more relaxed scene, but again, it is clearly focussed on a young, fun, partying target market. If this is your scene, I think the hotel is pretty good. I would also say that I found the staff without exception to be very friendly, helpful and competent. Most importantly, being half a block off Spring st., the location is great.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor to avoid loud noise from the lobby bar, and a renovated room if your annoyed by...

Loved the hotel, fabulous location, amazing roof terrace!!
But what really made our stay great was the wonderful service. Our 6 year old's favourite toy was accidently taken to the laundry mat when they serviced our room. The hotel staff tracked it down and made sure it was sent on to our next destination by fedex!! Thanks to the staff they made our little girl very happy. That is really going the extra mile.

Very cool hotel in a fantastic location in Soho. We stayed in a twin room which was fantastic - plenty of room for us both and our luggage and the room was lovely. The roof top bar has an amazing view back to midtown (including Empire State and Chrysler), but with serious attitude. The staff varied from incredibly helpful to unhelpful. The restaurant downstairs outside was great for breakfast. All things considered, we were very happy here as what mattered most was room and location.

Dear jj1837,

We appreciate you expressing your thoughts on Tripadvisor and, although you’re overall experience was positive, your overall stay was diminished by the sounds of the bar.

I sincerely apologize.

A60 is magnificent with its un-paralleled views of Manhattan but, if the staff does not create the correct environment, all is lost. I will certainly share your experience with the management and will assure we stick to what has made us one of the best, private rooftop lounges, excellent service!

Sixty is in a great location in Soho - near a number of great shopping, bars, and restaurants. It also has a few restaurants/bars of its own. However, you must use your room key to access different floors with rooms so it is very safe despite a number of people trekking in and out.

The front desk staff in the lobby is unpleasant, bu the gentlemen downstairs at the door are extremely kind and welcoming. Housekeeping is also great and leave "treats" around like brownies. The hotel also uses Keihl's bathroom products, which if your a beauty product snob you'll appreciate ;)

The boutique hotel's decor is "swanky", trendy, romantic, but dark. Beds are very comfortable - had a great nights sleep. The walls are a bit thin so you can hear the smallest of noises which may be a concern if you are staying here on the weekends when the bars are happening. I would stay here again for its reasonable price given the area.

Dear SBHolo,

Thank you for taking the time to complete this on line review of our hotel.

It sounds like we almost had the complete wow experience if not for your interaction with our front office team. We are constantly using these reviews as a learning tool and, hope that any bad experience is eventually removed from any guest stay. I'm very happy to see that the bellman and doorman exceeded your expectations and, helped create a net feeling of positivity.

We will look forward to having you stay again very soon.

I loved my experience at 60 thompson. Was prob one of the nicest boutique hotels. service superb, the pretty restaurant downstairs was very romantic, nice rooftop bar, nice little features like DVDselection and concierge that will go the extra mile and neat little feautres in the room. Spa luxury gowns. best of all is it is adventuring around soho. The only drawback was that the room was small. I guess it is new york city and everything in soho feels a little small

Room Tip: Ask for the biggest room. I got a small room but there may be bigger ones

Dear Larry Krug,

Thank you for taking the time to review 60 Thompson on Trip Advisor.

The property has 4 different room types and 3 styles of suites to choose from at the hotel. Each has a loyal following of guests finding the size more than suitable for their needs. We would welcome discussing those options for you during your next stay.

As you noted, our hotel is centrally located in the heart of SoHo. Surrounded by every major store, boutique, art gallery and restaurant one could hope for when in the city.

It sounds like you took advantage of the area has to offer, good for you!

We look forward to seeing you soon.
