“Iroquios - classy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

We stayed at the Iroquois for 5 days at the end of our America trip. The service and staff were fantastic, the room and amenities were first class, and the location was only 2 short blocks from Times Square. The on site restaurant, Triomphe, was first class, with absolutely wonderful food. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

We love this hotel and have stayed in it a few times. Staff are always friendly, the service is great and the rooms are immaculate. The hotel is very central and we just love going to the Red Flame Diner along the road.

During our occasional trips to NYC, we look for reasonable luxury and value--The Iroquois had both. The typically compact NYC hotel room was clean, well maintained, and nicely furnished. The bathroom was modern and well designed. The cleaning staff get high marks and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Great bartender--makes a superb martini and knows how to converse with his customers. No bellhop, however, was available to help with our luggage upon arrival, which was fine because I can manage it and it saved me a tip. Upon leaving, I brought my luggage down myself but would have appreciated some help with the door and loading it into the car--instead, the bellhop just stood and watched, apparently offended my self-service--so they get poor marks. Irrespective of the bellhops, we would still, for the right price, stay again at The Iroquois. CaptainJ

This is a nice, clean, classic hotel located in Midtown Manhattan. A beautiful old gem for a decent value.

Location:
The hotel is quite close to both Penn Station and Grand Central. Just a short walk to Bryant Park, Times Square and Rockefeller Center and just a little longer walk to Museum Row, The Park and Madison Ave. This location is also very close to Broadway. For a typical tourist it's nearly a perfect location. However my personal opinion varies a bit. I've been to Manhattan a lot. Midtown no longer does it for me. In fact my belief is that nothing differs from "real" New York City more than Manhattan. I prefer Brooklyn or one of the villages. This opinion however does not effect my rating.
Rating: 4 Stars

Appearance/Condition:
The building is roughly 113 years old. It's a gem that has been restored beautifully. The street is clean and the condition of the building is very good. The lobby is classic and clean. It reflects the style of the building in its heyday and is in very good condition. The elevators are a bit small, slow and old, but it is not an issue.
Rating: 4 Stars

Service/Check in:
Efficient, polite and without issues. A new person was being trained and she did very well. No issues here. They referred to me by name and gave me a welcome packet.
Rating: 5 Stars

Room:
Small but comfortable. Nicely furnished although a bit dark. The one window in the room opened up to basically a small shaft in the center core of the building. No biggie because when one is in New York one shouldn't be spending time in the hotel room. The only problem I had with the room was the AC was REALLY loud (so were people int he hallway from time to time...don't people know to be quiet?) as was the mini-bar and the fridge we had put into the room. We didn't get any exterior noise however. The room has a mini-bar (don't touch anything or you'll be billed) but they will bring up a fridge upon request.
Rating: 4 Stars

Bed:
I rate the bed separately, since a great room can have an awful bed and an awful room can have a great bed. This one had an average bed. I slept well, but didn't want to spend all day in the bed.

What a perfect little sanctuary this is! Perfect combination of an elegant old world feel with modern comforts and amenities. Great location from which to enjoy so much of what NY has to offer.. As I was traveling on business, appreciated the quiet, well lit room with free wi-fi. Loved the ambiance and service throughout the hotel. Memorable stay!

First time at this hotel and I'm already planning a return. The location is perfect - close to Times Square and Broadway shows easy walking distance, close to major subway stops, plenty of dining options of all types nearby. I was especially impressed with the friendly and helpful staff and the extremely helpful concierge. The room was small but not tiny - felt open despite the size. Bed VERY comfortable, bathroom well appointed and the shower had plenty of power. Adequate cable stations and DVD with available movies at the desk. Fitness facility small but had cardio machines, some weight machines, and free weights in addition to sauna. Restaurant is excellent if expensive. I chose to enjoy breakfast at diner 1/2 block down the street which was pleasant and more affordable. Overall an excellent place!!

Room Tip: Higher up probably less noisy though I didn't find noise to be a problem at any time of day or n...
